There are a few classes that have helped me throughout my internship. The one that has probably helped me most is 3504, Digital Design and Innovation. I use the concepts of business analysis and creation of documents like scope and functional requirements all the time at work. On most projects I work on, I have to either create or updates these types of documents, so having practiced and created similar documents in class have helped me tremendously. Data analytics has also come in handy in my internship. At times I have to create, run, or change SQL queries, and having studied SQL in Data Analytics has made this much easier, I don’t have to spend all my time looking up things. And lastly, Business Communication has really helped my verbal and written communication skills. On all projects, communication is a key to success, so having developed those skills has helped me, especially with writing emails and formal documents.

Early on in my internship with Subaru I had to learn a few things fast. The first was how to use Microsoft Outlook for emails and scheduling meetings, and the second was actually learning where all the meeting rooms were. There were conference rooms all over the building, so it was a struggle the first two weeks when I had a bunch of meetings every day. I also had to learn the personalities of people I worked with. Some were very business oriented, and I had to talk to them professionally. But other people on my team were more laid back, not as in they slacked in their work, but I could talk to them more like I would talk to a friend.

Within the first few days upon starting my internship at Philadelphia Gas Works, I had to figure out where things such as the restrooms, cafeteria, and other locations were without asking any questions. Restrooms were pretty easy to find as was the cafeteria. Other things such as the coffee machine my boss was able to point out while walking to a meeting. Navigating the two buildings was also something I had to do quickly on my own so I can be an efficient team player. There is a six story building as well as a four story building that are connected via a catwalk, or a bridge above ground level on 9th Street and Montgomery Avenue. It was important that I knew where to find certain people or offices because if my boss asked me to run a paper by somebody I do it in a timely fashion. As far as culture goes, the people here are quite friendly. They would often ask me if I knew where something was and I would acknowledge. I never felt the pressure to ask any questions if needed be.
