Technology will constantly change/evolve and whatever is the standard today we will look back and laugh and wonder why we did it that way. I think companies will budget wisely and continue to make the necessary investments in tech to stay ahead of the game and with the most up-to-date technologies.

I currently volunteer for the local Boy Scouts to help build their membership. The CoP that I am involved with is other Scouting-type organizations and non-profits that come together through email and meetings to share knowledge, best practices, tips to increase membership, and program ideas.
I have volunteered in various capacities throughout…[Read more]

The Siemens approach is a great one that more companies should consider utilizing just for the ideas on solving the problems can be vastly different than what was expected; more broad perspective of ideas and solutions than what can be done internally. It does take building a culture in the company that would support OI by allowing employees to…[Read more]

Jordan, I totally agree with you, I feel that a majority of authors would much rather spend their time focusing on their work instead of marketing their works. Marketing itself can be a full-time job and can take a lot of effort. The amount of self published books that succeed is really…really small. The article from Forbes reaffirms my previous…[Read more]

Jon Cherry commented on the post, Reading Question: Disruptive Change and Book Publishing, on the site 9 years, 2 months ago
I do not think that agents and publishers will go away. I think that there will always be an industry in this area. I think that with self-publishing that it has opened up a lot of people to become their own authors and it has really clouded the market. When I browse iTunes for books every once and a while, I see a lot of titles that I don’t f…[Read more]

1) I think that in the opinion of the record industry, that digital media would be most cost effective because they wouldn’t have to deal with the overhead of selling/distribution of the albums. What labels would be concerned about it that now consumers have the ability of buying individual songs instead of a whole album, see breakdown of r…[Read more]

I read about the Beyonce HBR case a while ago. I definitely don’t think that many artists can pull off what she did just because of the big following that she already had and utilizing the social media outlets that she did to announce the album. Radiohead was a big name back in the day and if they had the social media outlets that Beyonce…[Read more]

IT was once something that was just built and utilized based on each country’s individual needs so IT was something that was not really centralized as a company. By making it a priority and bringing together each of the business units and countries together, really would enable Wyeth to be more effect and efficient in their processes. And the c…[Read more]

It’s definitely a lot more convenient to take a smaller device like an iPad or other tablet for meetings and presentations now that tablets are alot better, like the Surface. Whenever possible I will take my iPad with me to a conference and leave my computer behind.
Diane, the Surfaces are very nice and really can replace a computer/laptop. I…[Read more]

Why would a company use these services from Amazon instead of maintaining their own infrastructure? What would the pros and cons of using Amazon’s services be for the company you work for?

BYOD is not supported in our workplace, due to securing communications. But yet the state can save money by not having to pay for devices and phone plans if they allowed people to BYOD. Concerned about security, there are apps available that can secure communications like email and text messaging.

Yeah Angela, w/ special treatment how would one unit getting their proposal pushed through benefit the company as a whole? All of the proposals must be weighed for that benefit.

Jon Cherry commented on the post, Case Question: Volkswagen – Advice for Matulovic, on the site 9 years, 2 months ago
It’s all about office politics. If he tells them that he won’t consider their proposals, they might not be open to consider future proposals/ideas that he has in the future. But if he asks for them to submit their proposals, consider it along all of the other proposals, then they wouldn’t feel brushed off as badly as they otherwise would.

The proposals or favors that other executives have to try to circumvent the priority management system might not fit into the priorities that the company is looking for. Matulovic should ask his colleagues to come up with the supporting documentation to back their proposals to ensure that the proposals fit into the strategies. He could take them…[Read more]

Jon Cherry commented on the post, Case Question: Volkswagen Process Assessment, on the site 9 years, 2 months ago
I think the new processes are a major step in right direction for the company as it finally got business units to design their projects to be more efficient (push to come in under budget and on time). I agree with you Amanda that this encourages projects to be more committed to staying on track and within budget. Too many times, the continued cost overruns and delays for deploying IT projects can ultimately sink the project. This new system really makes the project teams think through the process to develop projects that are thoroughly thought through.

Hi Amanda
I do a lot of volunteer work for a non-profit organization. The staff is very limited (7 paid staff for 2500-3000 membership) so a lot of the volunteers pick up to build and maintain the relationships of our customers. What I see is a lot of times that volunteers fade in and out and while they can create the relationships, for the…[Read more]
