Although my internship ends after next week, my time at RSM this summer has been amazing to say the least. What made this internship such a positive experience was being around a helpful and knowledgeable team. Furthermore, being treated like a first year associate and not having the stereotypical intern duties was a relief. I was coming from a…[Read more]

Over the past month at my internship, I’ve learned a lot. One of the important things I learned was being able to take detailed notes while sitting in on a conference call. I learned that if you do not have good detailed notes from inquiry that you will have a hard time filling out work programs. Another thing I learned was being able to account…[Read more]

The classes I found helpful for my internships were 2501 and 3506. The small section of IT audit gave us a little taste of what we can expect as an IT auditor/RAS consultant. Most of the engagements I have been on were related to security. Furthermore, with my prior work experience along with 2501, my problem solving skills have definitely helped.…[Read more]

Before taking this internship, I was already working part time in an office. I have been working part time and balancing school work for the past two and a half years. The only difference with this internship is that it is full time and I generally have a longer commute. If I plan on doing school work after getting home from work, I have less time…[Read more]

Not being afraid to ask a question is a major key to success!!! If I had not done that at my previous job, I would not have excelled as quickly as I did. Another thing is taking notes.. you are taking an initiative and you won’t be that guy that asks the same question multiple times!

It seems like I had a late start on my internship being that today was my second day. However, there wasn’t much “finding out on my own” that I’ve had to do so far. That may change soon next week! Before this internship, I was working part time in an IT department. Being exposed to a professional environment for two and a half years has prepared…[Read more]

Remember to think before you click and to always hover over links! Another thing would be to call or speak to the sender if they are requesting information. I know this from my old job as I implemented phishing training for employees along with tons of phishing emails. Good luck!

The most important skills that I have discovered in my internship are good communication and troubleshooting skills. Being able to communicate effectively is important as an intern. You need to be a good listener because you are doing a lot of that early on in your internship (such as a full week of training). A technical skill that I realized was…[Read more]

The most important takeaway from this course for me was through the use of Excel and SQL. These tools will come in handy when your boss gives you a spreadsheet filled with a million rows of data. I would explain to my potential employer that our Excel and SQL assignments simulated questions that we may come across while working in the field such…[Read more]

A business question such as whether or not a company should invest in a new technology can be answered with the help of a decision tree. The data that would need to be collected would be the cost of the technology, benefits, the amount of time it would take to implement, and how much capital does the company have. With the analysis of the…[Read more]

This infographic was interesting and I felt that it did a great job of illustrating how one can avoid a hangover. The light colors were balanced with pictures and text. I think it is a great example of an infographic because if there was no text, one could make inferences on the…[Read more] -

A situation where a join between tables would be necessary is if you run a query that would require data being pulled from two or more tables. If a DBA wanted to figure out the amount of times a customer orders a certain product, they would ultimately have to create a join between an order, product, and customer table in order to retrieve that…[Read more]

The trickiest parts of creating an ERD is figuring out the cardinality between entities and parts of the scenario that actually need to be added to the diagram. My advice to someone would be to read the scenario multiple times and then taking note of the “important” nouns. After making note of possible entities and attributes, I would then go…[Read more]

An example of raw data being turned into information comes from 2101 with professor Lavin from last semester. Amazon likes to track what items users often view and or purchase. With that data, Amazon is able to come up with suggestions and reminders for users. For example, if someone buys their laundry detergent from Amazon; within a month or so…[Read more]
