A data driven service I use frequently is Tumblr. If I store the data in a spreadsheet, rows will contain data posted, data re-blogged, and columns will contain my user name, users I’m following, likes, and followers. I think columns may also contain my linked accounts, since Tumblr allows users to have several blogs with one email address.

I use the KPI of how much water I drink per day by using a bottle with 16oz capacity. This is specific and measurable because I can use the number of bottles I drink per day times 16oz to calculate my water intake. It is achievable because I can compare my water intake with the standard of healthy water intake per day and see if I need drink more.…[Read more]

I have never personally made one of those mistakes. I think the most important problem to avoid would be to start working on the database but without doing a full backup first, because other problems on the list are the errors that people would make in excel, which means people can fix it as soon as they found them. However, if you don’t have a…[Read more]

In my opinion, the most important principle of data visualization is to simplify. Now we lives in a world of data and we are exposed to thousands of data every day, so in order to use them , simplifying these complicated and numerous data is necessary. Also, I think simplicity is the most important because simplifying data is the first thing we…[Read more]

I think the most important takeaway from last week’s discussion was that bias is everywhere in our lives. In last week’s class, we found bias on Yelp and in Google reviews, and we discussed how biased those reviews can be. In my opinion, bias are unavoidable, because in fact, reviews are very subjective ideas based on personal experiences. For e…[Read more]

The dataset I found was the 2015-16 Private School Universe Survey.
I found it on http://catalog.data.gov/dataset/201516-private-school-universe-survey.
I thought it was interesting because I went to public elementary and secondary schools, and I wanted to know the difference between public schools and private schools.
I learned religious…[Read more] -

One conventional wisdom that I always heard is that “Teenagers need at least 8 hours of sleep each night”. I have heard this saying since I was in primary school, but ironically, when I was in middle school, I found that almost all my friends and classmates slept less than 8 hours a night, and we were good. To test this theory, I could select a…[Read more]
