To me, the most important thing I have taken from this class was the ability to visualize data and present it in an effective way. This course should be viewed as not only being able to analyze data, but also being able to show it to an audience. This course also allows students to dive into current issues with data analysis and understand the…[Read more]

I use Blackboard just about everyday, even if it is just to check if any grades have been entered, which they usually haven’t. If it were to be converted to excel, some rows could be grades, upcoming assignments and and the email address for the professor. The columns in this sheet would be the classes themselves, and with those rows showing…[Read more]

TV Ratings: ‘Sunday Night Football’ Hits Season Low
As someone who is interested in the sports field, a KPI of how popular the sport is, can be the television ratings that the nationally televised games bring in. I also wrote a paper on declining NFL ratings last year when this trend started, so keeping up to date with…[Read more] -

A KPI I use everyday, especially since beginning my college career has been the number of things I cross off of my to-do list everyday. I keep a running list of everything I have to do, usually organized by what day i aim to have them done by and the list usually extends about a week into the future. They are specific tasks, like “MIS Reading…[Read more]

The only mistake I have made that was mentioned in the article was using the incorrect data type. Specifically using the wrong data type when entering a date. It is probably the easiest mistake to make out of all ten mentioned in the article. It is also a tough one to catch right away, to avoid this mistake it usually takes looking over your data to catch.

This article is similar to the study that was done to find the country’s best burrito but instead of burrito it was best hot dog and best beer at a Major League Baseball stadium. It also shows the top five stadiums overall and ranks the Orioles stadium as the best.…[Read more] -

I believe the most important principle is “Explore”. You aren’t going to know every question you will have answered before looking at the data. Data yields unexpected results all the time and without exploring them you won’t find any of them. Looking at data to answer only one question may be one of the least efficient ways of using data.

The article I found builds on the dropping NFL ratings and how hurricane Irma may have affected that. Last year the NFL suffered from a huge drop in ratings and they hope to recover but after the inaugural game of the season, they are still…[Read more] -

The ideal path for students to take is usually said to be immediately after high school they should go off to a four year university. However this may not be the best option for them, maybe taking a year or two to attend a community college and get acclimated to a college class work load could do wonders for students. Saying this as a transfer…[Read more]
