The project was to complete all modules of the AWS Cloud Foundation course. The topics covered were:
- cloud computing and cloud service models
- AWS global infrastructure
- Networking and content delivery
- Amazon EC2 instance
- AWS well-architected framework
- Amazon relational database service
I learned about how all the different AWS services and their uses, as well as how to set up a virtual private cloud with EC2 instances, security groups, load balancers, and relational databases in AWS.
AWS Cloud Foundations Certification
The goal of this AWS Academy Cloud Foundations course was to gain understanding in cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support.
The result was earning a certificate and badge for completing 10 modules of the course.
I learned how to create an EC2 Instance, an Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) that spans in two Availability Zones with a “Public” and “Private” network segment in each, and an AMI which I then cloned. I gained experience in working with Elastic Block Store (EBS) and utilizing services provided by Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS). I was also able to generate and leverage load balancers, launch configurations, and auto scaling groups. We also learned how to design a client/server program using a RESTFUL API to pass parameters and store data in an RDS Instance.
Pro Points Assignment

My goal for this assignment is to research edge computing and cloud security, and determine what they are, why we need them, and how they relate to the concepts covered in MIS 3406.
What I learned from this assignment is that there are a lot of aspects that revolve around cloud computing, in particular edge computing and cloud security. Each aspect plays a significant role in our modern ecosystem, and as we progress further into the digital era, these concepts will become more important to know than ever before.

NoSQL Databases
An individual may wonder what exactly NoSQL databases are, along with the relevance they have in day-to-day life. NoSQL (“not only SQL”) databases are non-relational data storage systems, which store information uniquely when compared to relational databases. Specifically, NoSQL databases support semi-structured (unstructured) data and can handle “Big” data with greater performance. “Not only SQL” databases have the capability of processing structured and unstructured data, easing the usefulness for users. Increased functionality, capacity, and fault tolerance are just a few reasons why a company may choose to incorporate these databases.
In Data Analytics (MIS 2502), we used a NoSQL database called MongoDB, created by 10gen. MongoDB is an open-source, document-oriented database design. Within the database, individuals can store BSON documents in a schema-less structure. Before covering the material on MongoDB, we covered concepts related to relational databases, along with the utilization they provide. After performing numerous queries, I was able to have a clear understanding of the reasoning behind utilizing NoSQL databases, rather than SQL databases. We learned how to combine sources of data using methods of aggregation. The Data Analytics course taught us that the architecture behind MongoDB and other NoSQL databases allows for the handling of “big data”. When companies need to implement large data volume, NoSQL eases the functionality, improving overall performance.
A NoSQL database enables enhanced results for many companies and practices throughout the world. An example of a NoSQL database being applied in practice would be PayPal. A worldwide leader in online payment solutions, PayPal began to integrate Couchbase in 2013 for several reasons. The NoSQL database allowed the company to collect data and analytics in profiling, segmentation, and identification mapping. Within just one year, PayPal was able to manage over one billion documents and ten terabytes of data using the database. After seeing astonishing success in a short period, the electronic commerce company began to extend its usage of Couchbase. PayPal managed analytics of user information by incorporating Kafka, Hadoop, and Couchbase. The programs permitted the company to process millions of updates within minutes. NoSQL databases are widely used throughout different companies to process and store data.

Aws academy

By completing the AWS academy modules I learned to build, deploy, and manage websites on AWS’s secure network. I’ve learned several network phrases such as availability zone, instance and elastic compute cloud by completing these modules, they are all phrases that I have never used or heard before. After completing the modules, I can create instances on my virtual machine in the cloud to access a remote desktop. I can create several security groups to assist my instances both public and private. Aws academy modules are something I recommend finishing before working on your AWS account, they walk you through different AWS services and help you distinguish one from another to achieve your goal.
Optional Assignment – Short Essay
The main goal of this assignment was to conduct research and write a research paper on a topic relating to the course Data Analytics. Throughout the course, we have covered NoSQL and MongoDB. Within the research paper, we had to provide a background of our topic and explain its importance and relations to the material we learned throughout the course. Lastly, we had to give examples of our topic being put into practice within real-world applications and explain its significance.
For my research paper, I researched artificial intelligence. I was able to develop a great understanding of artificial intelligence. In addition, I was able to understand the value of artificial intelligence and its importance in many businesses.
Xue Zhan Huang MIS 2502- Data Analytics Optional Extra Credit Assignment 3-30-2022
Overall, this assignment allowed me to learn the three types of artificial intelligence. It helped develop a clear understanding of these three types of artificial intelligence and identify examples of them being applied. I was able to learn its connection to data analytics. In addition, it gave me an understanding that Data Analytics and artificial intelligence deeply rely on each other as it helps create the services and technology that people use daily. More importantly, it ease the work of employees within their work field and provides them with tools that allow them to solve problems.
