MIS 2402 API Project
This API can be used by numerous types of businesses. Obviously, it can be used by a Chinese food store, or restaurant. The store can print their own fortune by generating each aspect of the fortune cookie and printing it on a piece of paper. The fortune button can be used by a teacher, for example. If a class had a test, the teacher could enter an xml document of test questions. The teacher chooses as many random questions from the data-set that they’d like. This will help to balance the tests which they give. The lessons document could be used in an app that is for those who wish to learn Chinese, or any other language they’d like. The user can learn a new phrase by pressing the lessons button. The numbers function can be used by someone who doesn’t want to buy Chinese food but is looking to find some lucky numbers. This API could also be used by a company to send codes to customers. Customers can sign up for a “quote and lesson of the day” from the source, and a distinct code can be sent in that email specifically for the consumer to buy certain goods, or for a group to purchase certain goods.

Owl Insider
OWL INSIDER, MIS 4596 Final Presentation for Professor Tony Messina.
The MIS Capstone course applied knowledge from every MIS course within the program. Our team, Owl Insider, created a prototype for Temple University that offers students an enhanced social and academic experience. All team members were transfer students and we believe this sort of application would’ve helped us acclimate with our peers and discover the plethora of resources offered at Temple University. Please find our final presentation and prototype demo below.
What Is Machine Learning?
Kevin Dang What Is Machine Learning
This assignment is about diving into the deeper meaning behind the words \”machine learning\”. By researching and exposing myself to the fields surrounding machine learning, I was able to learn more about what the term actually entails. Certain aspects that I go into in more detail in my essay involve the process of how machines learn and real-world examples. I was even able to create my own example after doing research, however, it\’s likely I\’m not the first to think of it (dog association).
What Are Data Science Ethics?
Kevin Dang What Are Data Science Ethics
In this assignment, I was able to dive into the field of ethics. Particularly, I focused on what the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) defines as good practice and ethics for those in the technological field. Prior to completing this assignment, I felt like I already had a grasp on what the general rules were. However, this assignment really opened my eyes on how much influence data scientists and others in the industry have. There is so much at stake and it only takes one person in a powerful position to mismanage or misuse his/her role for things to come crashing down. In that sense, I am very proud of the world we live in and how we’ve progressed as a society.
Web API – Proof of concept
Owl Insider
For this project I worked with three of my MIS peers to create an application for Temple university for MIS 4596. Our app is called Owl Insider and helps students connect with each other, have better awareness of on campus activities, and even create events that they can invite friends to. We used Just In Mind prototyping tool in order to create how we want the application to work and presented in front of our class to show our final results. I learned so much about the work involved when taking an idea from just an idea to an actual prototype with a business case.

Owl Insider
- The goal of our project was to create an application fort Temple University students to use. This application is to allow students to be connected with events, student organizations, and fellow students around campus, based on their individual interests and class roster. In creating Owl Insider, I learned that as a student, if I feel that something can be improved at Temple, it is my duty to research where I can help make a difference and do just that. I believe that if Owl Insider became a real application, it could truly have a positive effect on the student population at Temple.

Stock API
The goal of this project was test out APIs on our own time and figure how to apply it into a business aspect or entertainment. During my time in this project I learned a lot more on how APIs worked. I also experimented with different usages and functionalities that the API offered. The link to my project is here. The link to the API is here. The API is free and has a lot of different features that companies can take advantage of. There are a lot of companies out there now offering stock options on an application on your phone, and even online. We can use this API to give features to the consumers to see their portfolio, see the growth or volume traded, and even search for stocks. I have a couple of shares for both of those stocks as well, so it’s easy for me to use this API to look at the price for each minute, hour, daily. Using this API you could create a code that alerts you if the stock hits a price you are not comfortable with.
