This week, we defined ethics as “society’s general understandings of what is good or appropriate behavior”. We also discussed related topics like Corporate Social Responsibility and social accounting, both of which relate to a company and their relationship to the surrounding community. We talked about the challenges to being ethical with your…[Read more]

I think this new delivery system is the way of the future. The online shopping industry has experienced rapid growth in the past few years, and with this it is going to explode even faster. The one major drawback to online shopping is having to wait a few days to get your product, but with this, for a higher cost, you can get it almost…[Read more]

I think the issue stems with them being independent contractors. Because of that status, they lose out on many of the benefits that normal employees would receive. One way they could improve their image was if they only contracted with companies who had employees on payroll, this would force companies like LaserShip to change their ways if they…[Read more]

During this week, we went over the Global Supply chain simulation we had just done. One of the biggest things I learned from this simulation were that flexibility of the supply chain is key, especially when their is high uncertainty with the forecasted demand. For example, if you aren’t sure if you’ve ordered enough product, choose a supplier…[Read more]

I personally really enjoyed this class. The one thing that differentiates this class from others, is that we aren’t just staring at powerpoints learning about theories and how things should work. Instead, you gave us plenty of real life examples to really illustrate how the topics we learned about work in actual industries. As a finance major I…[Read more]

Personally, these supply chain ethical issues probably will not affect my likelihood of purchasing APPLE products. Yes, what is happening with Foxconn is upsetting, but APPLE seems to be making an effort to fix the issue. The fact that they had the FLA audit their suppliers and publish the data shows that they already address the problem and want…[Read more]

In Week 11 we learned about the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which is the Structured transmission of data between
organizations by electronic means. We learned that an EDI is composed of a computer system (Computer, network, and internet connection). The advantages of using EDI include increased efficiency, cost savings, and starts to get…[Read more] -

Question 1)
There are many reason why companies may choose to outsource production which include lower costs, speed the entry to market, leverage another companies knowledge and skills, increase quality, and to maintain more capacity. There are also many ways that technology can help this; Telecommunications can help with improving the flow of…[Read more]

My biggest takeaway from this past class was actually getting first hand experience playing the beer game. No matter how much you learn in class, theres nothing like actually being put in a real life scenario. In the beginning my team was very ineffective and confused, but I began to understand how the supply chain process works the more we played…[Read more]

In our last class, I learned a surprising amount about how success goes hand in hand with great customer satisfaction, and a good supply chain. Their efficent supply chain managed to get their customers their product quickly, sometimes they would even “surprise” them with next day shipping. On top of that they offered free refunds greatly…[Read more]

I absolutely thing that it is necessary for MIS professionals to understand supply chains. Supply Chain is a tricky, but important process. There is a lot of movement, and all the processes are interrelated. You can see this from the diagram. As a core function of a business, it would be silly if MIS professionals didnt understand how it works.…[Read more]

In the last lecture we learned a good amount of new information. The first half of the class, we spent talking about the Croc’s case study. One of the main areas we looked at were Croc’s core competencies, and how that affected them as an organization, and how that could affect their business goals. The two main competencies that I took away were…[Read more]
