My biggest takeaway from this class was learning how to make good infographics. Learning Tableau is a great skill to have, especially as an MIS major. I would tell the person that this class is about what is important in the 21st century. Learning about data, how its used, and what you can do with data is an excellent skill to have for anybody.

The article I read about talks about free data. Free data makes all data available to anyone anywhere. By placing a price on data it makes those with good reliable data standout and those with bad data fall behind. This is relevant because…[Read more] -

A KPI that I use on a daily basis is my GPA. As I am applying to internships and jobs my GPA is a key indicator in my dedication to school. This is specific and measurable as the GPA is a specific number based on a 4.0 scale. It is achievable as I can do more, or less, to alter my GPA. Worse grades make it go down and better grades in my classes…[Read more]

I believe that the most important mistakes to avoid is number 3. Starting to work on a database that has not been fully backed up first is one of the easiest mistakes to make. It is also one of the most simple tasks to follow.

I believe that the most important principle is to “be skeptical”. In today’s day and age we look at information and immediately just accept the information chosen. People do not search for more and ask questions about further analyses simply because its too much work. With more tools like Tableau coming out, these interactive infographics are…[Read more]

The most important take away I got from Maurice’s talk was that data is everywhere and everything. Data is changing the work environment drastically. Everyday Maurice uses data at QVC. He is able to use data in his job to make and save the company lots of money. I found it very interesting when he talked about using data to see what words viewers…[Read more]

My convention wisdom statement is that in order to be successful in life you need a college degree. As college tuitions continue to rise along with the amount of debt students face, kids are still going into college without a plan. Because it seems like the normal thing to do, many graduating high school students go into college not even knowing…[Read more]
