The most important takeaway from this course for me was gaining a better understanding of data and how often we use it. Data visualization tools like Tableau help to better interpret this data and I’m glad that I got an opportunity to learn how to use this tool. This understanding will help me not only in my business career, but in my personal…[Read more]

For a company like Amazon, each row could be a different order number. the columns for these orders are endless. They would need to store the customer’s information, the name of the item, where the order is being shipped, etc… there are plenty of things that we could categorize the orders with. we could also use user information as a column,…[Read more]

A KPI that I use daily is the number of steps that my VivoFit records per 3 hours of gymnastics practice. I use this to see how efficient my practice was for that day. It is Specific & Measurable because it is a very clear indicator and can be expressed by a number. It is Attainable because the watch counts how many steps I have during the time…[Read more]

Since I do not work with Excel very often, I have not made any of these mistakes before. However, I do think that an important step to make sure you do not do is Miss the Data Type. There are many things that can go wrong with your spreadsheet if the program confuses a certain data type with another.

The most important step, to me, is to be skeptical. The worst thing one can do is trust anything that they read without questioning its validity first. We have so much data presented to us nowadays, that it is easy to simply accept it as true without first questioning where it came from and why it should be trusted. Data visualization can be…[Read more]

The biggest point that stood out to me this past week was that data can be very untrustworthy in certain situations. our discussion on the Yelp and Google reviews proved that to me. Last week during restaurant week I was picking a place to go and eat. Instead of using the reviews on yelp I asked a few close friends from around the area about a…[Read more]

I found the DTV reception maps
I found it on Data.gov
I found it interesting because you can see the signal strength of Digital TV by simply searching an address
People in Big cities get more channels than people in smaller cities
You could decide where you want to live, based on which channels you get in the area. -

The first example that crossed my mind is years ago people thinking the world was flat. Everyone just accepted this as truth, without testing it. One way to test this is legitimately going to find “the edge of the earth”.Through this they would find out that there is no “edge” to the earth.
