Currently I am a server at a restaurant, while this is not something I plan on doing forever, I enjoy it for the time being. I believe that the Swim Lane Diagram would be the more helpful option. When it comes to a restaurant, you have the front of house staff such as servers, bartenders and hosts, then there is the back of house staff which includes the cooks and dishwashers and then there is the management and all of the companies that restaurants order food, liquor, materials and uniforms from. I think with all of the different departments a swim lane diagram would best simplify the process and communication between everyone.
-
Madison,
Hi. I think that swim lane would be really interesting because there are so many moving parts.
Karen
-
I work in catering and we follow a similar diagram to that of a swim lane so I totally agree with your point!
-
-
Hi Everyone. As I mentioned before I am currently in my career and I use swimlanes all the time most of the time as I focus a lot on processes and job sharing. The swimlanes clearly tell the flow of what and who of a particular process. As an example, I work with Fox Chase Cancer Center because some of their patients come to Temple to participate in clinical trials. For this to happen, a process needs to be in place to ensure the billing for these services are done correctly and ensure that Temple University Hospital and Temple University Physicians receive payment if the clinical trial study is paying for any tests or procedures.
-
I think it is interesting how intricate the medical field is and how much business plays a role in what doctors and hospitals do. This is a great reason to have a ERD and Swim lane.
-
-
Im majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. If I had to chose, I would use an E.R.D. because it is simple and easy to follow. The swim-lane diagram seems like it has a lot of unneccessary steps. However, I do not see myself using either in the future.
-
I’m currently majoring in entrepreneurship and I see myself using both in the future if I were to create a business. The swim-lane diagram to define the roles of my employees and the ER diagrams to describe the relationship between the customer and the product as well the process in which the customer receives the product.
-
My major is Human Resource Management and I currently work at Wegmans as an assistant front end manager. I will more than likely use both of these diagrams or apply them to my daily work as well as continue to use them as I grow my career. I can use a swim lane diagram when mapping out how employees can grow with in a company. For example, I would first list the lowest position and show them the path to get to the highest. My company uses something similar called a “Bubble Chart”, in which they show the job title and all of the skills required to be in that job title.
-
I am currently a sales person at a department store. I have decided to keep this career until after college, when I am capable of entering a new one. I can use ERDs in order to understand and organize the process and results of my sales. I work in the shoe department and one tool we use is the ability to call other stores and have them send the shoes, in the size we don’t have, directly to the customer. Using an ERD, I can analyze the beneficial information gained from the customer, the actions being taken to get the product to the customer and the resources we use. An ERD would help me be able to analyze the big picture of the store department and network.
-
Great way to stay organized. Do you use these tools to better understand and track what happens after the product is sold/delivered?
-
-
Before my time here at Temple I was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. I was in charge of 70 Marines in a maintenance section. I unknowingly made a swim lane diagram for each of my marines and their jobs. I focused on this approach because of the high turn over rate in the Marine corps. Marines were being pulled from my sections for deployments, their contracts were up, and so on. Having a fail proof set of “directions” (swim lanes) allowed any Marine the ability to work and job in my maintenance section. Swim lanes especially helped out our younger Marines who were just trying to understand life in the military.
-
Evan,
That sounds like a great tool and it helped in two different areas. I’m sure if you shared this document others would of found it useful as well. Great job.
Karen
-
Karen,
Unfortunately it was all saved on government hard drives that I no longer have access too. I really would have never guessed that I would be using them again!
Thanks,
Evan

My major is Human Resource Management, the swim lane charts are a commonly known and used concept when it comes to HR. They cover almost all aspects of an HR department and all of the branches linked to that. I followed a similar management style document when I was the director of a summer camp. This method was also used in regards to my catering company where you have a staffing coordinator, then the manager of the event with the bartenders and servers. On a personal more work level eb and flow I feel that the entity relationship diagram. This diagram can be placed in pretty much any degree of the business environment, especially in the correlation between customer and product.
-
I am majoring in Accounting, but as of now I have worked more in the customer service area. I think that ERD is be very helpful in my current job position. I have to manage customer complaints and request, and direct them to different departments. Therefore, I have to depend whether the problem will be resolved or returned for verification and later resubmitted.
-
I am a marketing major and swim lane diagrams could be very useful when creating a marketing plan in which different entities need to gather data and make decisions about the company’s marketing strategy, but overall I think an ERD diagram would most helpful in a marketing environment because marketing a product involves interacting with all aspects of a company to achieve the best outcome when it comes to creating the marketing mix.
-
I am a marketing major as well and see both swim lane diagrams and ERD’s as being extremely resourceful. Swim lanes would provide a simple chart of who does what and when and help make any business practice more efficient. This would be more useful within a business. An ERD would probably be used more in my projected field because marketing is about how different entities interact and why. The ERD visually represents that process.
I have had a few jobs in the past where both diagrams would be used. I worked in sales and didn’t even know we were using swim lane diagrams, but now I know what they were. It is kind of funny because I have been a nanny before and I think about how even a child can look at these diagrams and discern what is going on for the most part. I have managed and bartended at restaurants as well. Swim lanes would be a perfect managerial tool to outline everyone’s processes within the restaurant.
-
I am currently an MIS major working in the IT department of a construction company. At work, we have many processes outlined on our company intranet that follow the exact diagram of the swimlane diagrams we went over in class. I think these diagrams are the more helpful of the two, as they more directly state the responsibilities or tasks of certain parties and show the exact order in which they need to be accomplished. From a construction standpoint, it doesn’t make sense to start welding before you have the pipes fitted together. Certain tasks can only be accomplished by steamfitters, and others by boilermakers, etc. Swimlanes show these tasks divided, and the order, more clearly.
-
I am currently an entrepreneurship major and both the swim lane diagram and the ERD will be useful for not only running my business but also starting it. Swim lane diagram will be useful to define the different roles within the company. The ERD diagrams are important for describing the relationship between the customer and the product. Both of these diagrams will be useful in starting and running a business.
-
I am a business management major and to be quite honest I am not sure how I would use either in. I am not sure what I will be doing once I am done college.
-
I am currently a double major in Marketing and Real Estate, with hopes to eventually become a commercial real estate broker. With that in mind, I feel like a swimlane diagram would be more efficient in my field. Since there are multiple “actors” in a real estate transaction, I feel like the use of actors having different phases would be helpful because of how many things are happening during a transaction.
-
I work for a successful community bank in my area and I am currently a supervisor. I am above a normal supervisor in my bank because I get to work at all 11 of our branches, an operations building and our headquarters. Not only am I a supervisor but I also train our new hires and people who get promoted into new positions. With this background and having the capacity to view and instruct my bank I get a full picture of our operations. With this being said and seeing how the banking industry works, I would say that an ERD method would be appropriate. Banks use so many different systems that include mostly management systems that a more complex method needs to be utilized inorder for the right decisions to be made. Let me know what you think about the banking systems management systems that you are aware of.
-
I run a small winery in SE Pennsylvania.. With only a handful of employees, I can’t really see swimlanes or an ERD method as being particularly useful at the moment but as we continue to grow I imagine they could be helpful. in the future. I think perhaps swimlanes might become the most useful to outline to employees the steps of the wine growing, harvesting and making processes. When only a couple people are involved, it doesn’t seem like a big deal to write it all out, but as more people get involved we will want to be sure that everyone is on the same page and following steps in the correct order.
-
Hello, I work as a car salesman and I think the swimlanes method would be the most helpful method of the 2 for my current job and for the future. As I don’t want to be a salesman forever, I do want to be in marketing and finance somewhere close to the money with a marketing aspect. Swimlanes is best because it outlines the many different lanes that can be taken in the car buying process and where I fit in and how. Swimlanes can be used to breakdown the whole dealership and analyze it.
-
I currently work as a tutor and a personal trainer. I’d probably prefer ERD over SWIM just because SWIM looks weird and my freelancing isn’t that complicated. If I ever expanded into something bigger I might use SWIM. I don’t see myself using either in the future though.
-
I am a Finance major and I think that Swimlanes would be more helpful in my career path. I see myself as someone working to be a financial analyst and I think Swimlanes are an easier method. Seeing that they can be be very efficient tools in relationships for businesses, I am sure I will run into them again in the future.
-
I am an Accounting Major and I feel that a Swimlane diagram would be more effective in a career in accounting because it is important to note and understand which person or department does what in the accounting process. A Swimlane would also come in handy at the restaurant I currently work at because yet again it is extremely important to not only outline multiple processes, but identify what group carries them out.
-
As I finance major, I believe that Swimlanes would be more helpful. I think Swimlanes are the easiest tool o keep track of work that needs to get done, and which person or group of people need to do that work. It also helps one understand what will happen after they perform a certain task.
-
I am a bank teller and usually we use ERD’s to visualize our commercial goals. It is very convenient because it is easy to understand and see a “bigger picture”.

My career goal is to work in the advisory department of a big 4 accounting firms. MIS fit into my career because as the financial world today is getting more and more automated, firms need help in collecting, managing and analyzing data. My understanding of Management Information System will help me succeed at my job because it will enable me to help my clients with the above goals.
-
Hey Ngoc– can you please email me? I do not have you registered for this course and want to make sure you’re receiving credit.

Honestly, my advisor helped me get my class schedule together this semester so I had not thought about how this course would fit into my career and really had no understanding of Management Information Systems. After a little research, I can see how this course would easy apply to any business oriented career or major. As a marketing major, communicating information is completely essential. I am looking forward to figuring out more!

Hi Everyone. I direct the processing of industry clinical trials from budget and contract negotiations, invoicing for budgeted items to receiving the revenue so I am hopeful that MIS will give me a better understanding of what systems are out there and what the process is when thinking of what data you need. In my field there are different types of systems both inputting and gathering information for certain data captures and it is often frustrating that systems don’t talk to each other because the effort put into data entry is often doubled or tripled. I am hoping this class will shed some light on this issue. My field is changing constantly with technology so this class will benefit me in giving me the knowledge of the technology available.
I look forward to working with all of you.

I am in a unique scenario where I work for a municipality and am currently a captain for a fire department. For the fire department I direct and coordinate firefighters beneath me, ordering of equipment and handle a budget of roughly $100,000 annually. My major is business management, and this class, in my opinion, will help me not only finish my bachelors degree, but help me in my field. For the municipality side of my job we collect data to understand specific things ranging from septic treatment to tax collection. From the fire department side we would use MIS to better collect data relating to fire, fatality, and incident types, as well as money going in and out of the department.

Hey Everyone! My name is Madison and I am a business management major here at Fox. After I graduate, my ideal career will be in sales, specifically sales in telecommunications and support systems. I think that having some knowledge in MIS will be very helpful in my career because I want to sell technology, and as a sales person, if you really understand a lot about what it is that you are selling, it is more likely that you will have an easy time with selling it. Considering the world we live in, knowledge of technology is a must, but understanding how to use technology in order to solve day-to-day business problems will set you up for success.

Hello everyone. My name is Mayra and this is my first class her at TU. Business Managagement is my major and I currently hold a regional management position over 8 family practices. I;ve only been in this new role 4 months and MIS is a big component. I find that in this role MIS is crucial. I am responsible for budgets, meeting incentive targets, and we house and electronic medical record system. I wouldn’t be able to accomplish my day to day tasks without systems in place to gather a lot of the nessesary information and process it so that i can then manage effectively. I am eager to see how this class can be applied to my day to day, and assist me in becoming successful in this new role.

Hey everyone! I am currently a entrepreneurship and innovation management major at the Fox. In the future, I would love to create my own business and I for sure believe that MIS is very helpful because MIS can set up a business for success. After this class I will most likely be taking additional classes that will help with my understanding of MIS as well as hone some skills learned during this semester.
-
I am coming into this course with limited knowledge as to what MIS really is. After reading a couple power points and some articles online I think MIS could have a much greater impact on business operations than I was originally thinking. I think that by taking a good look at how the different processes within a company operate you can gain a better understanding of not only how the business flows but also how to streamline these processes. Initially I was kind of skeptical as to how MIS could fit into my career because I work at a winery and a lot of my job is hands on and not based on technology. But the more I thought about it the more I realized there were still parts of my job, even if not the main parts that involved intercommunication with coworkers and other businesses. I think gaining an understanding of MIS will help our operation run smoother and hopefully lead to more partnerships and sales.
-
Hi all, I am a sophomore and Supply Chain Management at the Fox School of Business. I believe that the value of good operations management in business is to keep it as lean and efficient as possible, and I think that MIS has a great role to play in this aspect, especially in today’s fast-paced information age. For example, keeping up-to-date databases online with important information about products, stock or customers, could greatly enhance the efficiency of promoting sales and marketing efforts. Moreover, more streamlined operations processes enabled by technology could improve teamwork and organizational performance as a whole. It also enables better decision making for top management. That being said, I think I am still new to the subject and still have a lot to learn in this area. I look forward to a fruitful semester together with all of you!
-
I am currently majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. However, I intend on obtaining an advanced degree in Mathematics, and if that is the case I do not believe MIS will fit into my career too much. On the other hand, if I decide to pursue a job in Risk Management, MIS will assist in decision making. An understanding of MIS would make me more marketable when I am searching for a job.
-
I originally started my degree at Temple University in the Mechanical Engineering program. I switched to MIS just this semester, after obtaining an internship at an oil refinery doing IT work. I found myself more interested in the computer side of things than the actual piping and heavy machinery. I switched to MIS to give me a strong foundation in IT work, so that when I graduate with my bachelors I can attend local Union 420’s P6 planning school and become an industrial planner. This type of work is very computer oriented and software heavy, so I expect MIS to help quite a bit.
-
I am currently majoring in finance and never really knew what MIS was. As I have gone through my other classes at FOX, I’ve learned a few things and how it is becoming more and more important in financial matters. A knowledge of technology and communication is a must in the field I am taking so this class will be important to my success.
-
Hello everyone,
I am a Sophomore currently double majoring in Marketing and Real Estate, and before watching the videos on MIS I barely knew anything anything about the course. My ending career goal is to be a Commercial Real Estate Broker, and I think that learning MIS will be a great tool for me in the future. I know that while in my career I will be faced with many problems involving clients, and economic issues. MIS will help me solve those problems and create new opportunities with technology. I will be able to take he information that i gather about these issues and use it to my advantage.
-
I think that MIS could help me understand how to combine technology and people. I am very interested in learning about MIS, and I think that it would be beneficial in any business career. In the future I think it will help me to better market to the customer and easily be able to figure out the strengths and weaknesses of the company.
-
Being an HRM major I feel as if MIS will be very useful to me in my career. HR professionals are always using new and improving softwares to help manage employees. Learning about MIS will keep me ahead and might even help me provide helpful insight to software developers.
-
Good afternoon,
My current career is in the banking industry, I have fallen in love with the career and have created many goals. Currently, we are in exciting times at my bank. We are turning to new advantages in MIS to help modernize our branches and staff as well as in many other areas. With taking this class I will be able to strengthen my core skills in this field and bring back more experience to the table. As one of the beginning leaders in my bank, I have noticed that many of the staff is having trouble with these new systems as they have not been trained on implementing the systems. With a stronger understanding with MIS I hope to achieve the same abilities that were discussed in this week’s videos. Looking forward to communicating with the rest of the class!

Hello everyone. I think that in today’s society information travels quicker than a decade ago, and thus solutions to different problems may be solved faster. Technological evolution has shaped the way we interact with one another. Thus, MIS becomes a useful link between technology and people, and understating basic concepts provides people with helpful knowledge.
-
I am currently an entrepreneur & innovation management major and in the future I hope to own multiple businesses. I have previously taken an MIS course and I believe that my exposure will be a big help in understanding this course and moving forward in my future. In a world of rapid technological and informational advancement, understanding how to interpret and manage data will prove to be a key part of my future.
-
I think, it is important to know how to understand technology and communication. In order to be a successful HR I need to communicate with my employees. In order to appeal to a lot of people at once I need to understand technology and use it. That’s what makes MIS a well-needed subject
-
My current major is HRM which goes hand in hand with MIS so we can utilize technology to retain, manage and attract recruits and current employees. My career goals are a little more peculiar when it comes to my major. My goal after getting an HRM degree I would like to go to grad school and get an international relations degree with the hopes of going into third world community development. I think learning about MIS will help advance my knowledge of the business world and provide me with the skills necessary to be considered advanced in my career. As an HR student it is a must to be up to date on the technology.
-
Hey class. I am currently a junior in risk management. After graduation I will be working in the insurance industry, specifically business insurance. To adequetly supply a business with insurance you really have to know everything about that business. Utilizing MIS will help me track all of the information about each particular business I insure. A lot of insurance companies are awesome using applications that allow an agent to plug in information and automate a premium, instead of hand calculating. MIS will make my job easier.
-
My current major is Business Administration. As for career, either operations management and/or marketing are the fields of choosing. MIS is a business discipline to develop and leverage the organization’s technology.
Those are skills integral to a having a thriving marketing and/or management career. MIS can greatly assist me in acquiring the knowledge of the technical aspects of business. Also, understanding MIS allows me to more easily track progress and where alterations and improvements could take place for greater success. -
My current major is marketing and after graduating I would like to work at a marketing firm as a market research analyst. MIS fits into my career because market research analysts information systems to collect and analyze data of customers and competitors. Gaining an understanding of MIS will give me the advantage of being able to more effectively collect and analyze data.

I think that the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is the fact that it is constantly changing and is changing more and more rapidly as time goes on. Every day, there are new technologies that are making previous ones obsolete. I think that this is a big concern for businesses because they are going to have to stay up to date with all of the newest technology. For example, a few years ago, not all storeowners had the ability to swipe your credit or debit card and you could only use cash. Recently, the “chip” was invented and businesses that had just gotten machines to swipe credit and debit cards now have to throw those away and get new ones that have the chip function. This is just one example of how technology is changing too quickly for some to keep up with.
-
I believe some of the most important aspects of technology in the workforce is how it enables us to do our jobs better overall. Primarily, I will focus on the topics of security and efficiency. In terms of security, MIS and technological advancement allows for information to be harder to access and breach. For example, I work at a wealth management firm and in order to access clients’ account information, one most have multiple log in credentials as well as a live fob that updates momentarily and each fob is linked specifically with a certain person. Without this information and fob, it is nearly impossible to breach information. Next, for efficiency, with tools and platforms like CRMs and SCM, we are able to better our relationships within the company and outside with our customers. Jobs can done quicker, more effectively, and allow us to overall form a stronger bond within and outside.
-
I think the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is the increasing demand placed on business employees and leaders to understand how to utilize it to improve performance. Those who do not understand how to leverage the technology available to their firms, for example, will now be at a huge disadvantage, and so will those who do not know how to communicate their needs in technological terms. So I think a key element to shape my future outlook will be to keep up with technological advances by reading relevant articles on the subject regularly, staying curious, and continuously decoding how these rapid changes may impact the industry I am in, and how to adopt these advances to stay ahead in my particular field.
-
After spending the last few weeks learning all about MIS, from the basics to the systems utilized, I believe that the most important tool for workplace efficiency is adaptability. In a tech-heavy world that is constantly changing, it is important to be able to grasp all new trends and apply them to your work place. In addition to adaptability, it is also important to be technologically savvy, not in the way that you are a pro at all things tech, but more-so where you must have a strong grasp of tech at an intermediate level. As tech trends progress and become more and more complex, it is important to have a strong foundational eduction in order to be progressive in today’s business world.
-
After spending the last few weeks learning about MIS. I found that its going to be important to keep up with the changing technology. Since new things come out every year that could help better a company. I also liked the learn it homework. I thought it was cool we could see that people were visiting out site and where they were both around the country and the world. Yes, I think that utilize technology in the workforce to be efficient and effective. Right now at my job we have a new technology to help clients find their correct shade of makeup, it takes the guessing work out of trying to match a client to a shade of foundation. I think everything that we learned with passed semester will help me both at my current job and in future ones as well.
-
After spending the last 6 weeks learning about how business professionals utilize technology in the workforce to be efficient and effective, I think the most important aspect is connectivity. There are so many different platforms, systems, applications, etc., and it is incredibly important that everything fits together. For example, as CRM and SCM systems are both crucial in increasing profits, it is important to implement both to increase revenues and reduce costs, while simplifying the process. With all of the different systems, it would be easy to focus on one and not the rest, but they are all important, and they all need to function together. Technology must be up-to-date and interconnected.
-
My biggest take away from the class is definitely the pieces with SCM and Artificial Intelligence. For starters it’s the part of the class that I struggled the most with so I would like to better myself and learn it even better. I will have a new found appreciation for the systems my work puts in place to make everything run more smoothly. It’s easy to take a CRM or ERP for granted. I will definitely also like to use swim lanes more. The key elements that I will take away are being prepared and doing your hardest. It’s a basic fundamental but one that’s easily forgotten. It’s the key to success.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is the understanding of how technology is being used in the workforce, and how much technology’s role in the workforce and in society is going to continually grow throughout our lifetimes. I think the most important aspect of technology in the workplace can be with organization, as well as automating tedious tasks that a human would take hours doing, but a computer software can do in minutes. I can take the knowledge i gained about technology and its use in the workforce to help better prepare for any situation that may arise in business. I learned to have a more technological outlook in which I can make sure i don’t waste time or money on any business tasks that some sort of technology can do faster and more efficiently.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is working on the Max Labs. I found them very interested and I learned so much. It came in handy. I am working as a Strategy Account Intern for Garfield Group and they have a similar software that Salesforce is the parent of. I got to impress my boss with my knowledge on Salesforce when I was asked to help with a campaign they are running and they wanted automated Thank You messages. That was a PLUS!
-
My biggest take away from the class would have to be understanding how a CRM system works. The current company i work at uses a CRM system; by taking this course I now understand the logistics of a CRM system and why/how it is so essential in a companies day-to-day business.
-
I’ve learned a lot in this class and I think the things that will stick with me the most are ERDs. I have never used an ERD before and I run my own business. When we first started out we were very unorganized, but the simple solution was to create and ERD and we have been making order after order with barely any mistakes at all. It was great information learning about this and I’m sure it will benefit me in the future with my business. You guys can check it out at http://www.thefitrelgion.com
-
I am really glade that MIS 2101 is a required course for my major. One of the most important course for any business or non-business major student. In today’s technology world, we need a course like this. Since today’s workforce has faced a complete shift in how we use our time. Now, we use less time and get more. Employee productivity have improved with more precision and creativity. With proper CRM system, our lives are easier, but employer expect more from employees.
-
I think the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is that it makes businesses run much smoother and more efficiently. This not only benefits the company, but also its consumers because it allows for an environment less prone to making mistakes such as not having enough inventory or having the wrong customer information. Some key elements that will be useful to me will be swim lane diagrams. As an accounting major, I will be dealing a lot with transactions from many different people and places which could ultimately be hard to keep track of. A swim lane diagram will help keep the entire process simple and organized so in the event of a problem it will be easily solved. Also, learning about SCM and CRM was really beneficial because it taught me how important is to be efficient and precise with what you are producing while at the same time maintaining good relationships with customers.
-
I think the ability to give your employees tools to become more efficient is the most important aspect that a company can take away from technology in the workplace. Giving your employees the ability to be the best version of themselves and incentivizing them to help you cut costs, allows you to grow as a company and stay ahead of your competition. I plan on using the knowledge acquired in the past 6 weeks along with my 6 years of sales experience to expand the array of jobs that I can pursue.
-
In my opinion, the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is to get familiar with this modern technology. For the past generation, technological discoveries and developments seem to be introduced every week. Technology allows companies of all sizes to do business all over the world. As for business professionals, technology makes it possible to telecommute, work from virtual offices and interconnect with businesses and individuals across the globe. It’s a new step in a business world, where almost everything is possible. The world of technology became part of our lives and I don’t think that there will be a return to a traditional method of conducting business. I learned a lot in this class, about ERD, ERP, Data, SCM, CRM, Platform, and AI. It really opened my eyes into how business can utilize technology and be efficient in the business world. This class is important in any business major and I am glass I took this class.
-
I am happy to be in the class of MIS in this summer, the CRM system gave me a thoughtful stream to analyze the relationship between complex things. I am using Google Drive, Google Document, and Drop Box a lot in transfer and storage Documents very often currently. I believe the development of technology will benefit everyone in the future in the workforce.
-
I think the most important aspect of technology in the workplace is staying up to date with technology. Technology is constantly updating and improving in the workplace to make the task at hand easier and fast. Just from my experience alone I can see improvements over the past few years. In 2015 I had a tax season internship. During this internship a lot of the files I had to save and store onto my computer. If my boss would need a file I would have to send him the file via email. At my current internship we use a website called sharepoint. Sharepoint is a cloud service that lets you share files through. So for my internship my boss can just log into sharepoint and see what I posted.
-
The important aspect of technology is that it keeps advancing and changing every day. It is important to update the knowledge of technology because you can utilize technology in the business field. It is tough for many companies because they may have employees that do not like change or are not as quick to adapt to the changing technology as other people. So in a way, it becomes difficult to bring the technology into the workforce with efficiency. CRMs and SCMs can help build and maintain relationships with companies as well as customers. It creates a sort of process that everyone can follow and bring upon results.
-
After spending the last 6 weeks in this class, the biggest takeaway that I got in this class is to always try your best to keep the customer happy. While this may seem easy, there are many different components that go in to making a customer happy. Whether it be making sure that they got the right item, or keeping items readily available for customers. This utilizes every part of the business from CRM’s to Supply Chain Management, they are all equally as important as the rest in keeping the customer happy. A key element to making this outlook happen is to always be on top of yourself and to have a unified form of data.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is my new understanding of the importance of organizing data and how it directly correlates with the success of your business. Management Information Systems are crucial to successful businesses since they put everyone in an organization on the same page. Technology in the workforce will continue to advance and new systems will be implemented to improve businesses. Without this class, I would not appreciate the importance of information systems and how technology is used to help companies in a variety of ways.
-
I think that my biggest takeaway from this class is just how much technology is influencing the business world. I have seen some of the changes in recent years, but as technology and globalization have grown dramatically in the last decade alone, I am understanding a bit more of the tools that are currently available to use these developments to increase efficiency and data within various functions in a company.
While I understood how important technology was to the future of a company – I now know that having the knowledge as to what separates these technologies from each other is just as important. Before this class, I did not quite understand the details of the options available and how those variances could have such great impacts on the end product. -
As an accountant I believe the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is data storage. The ability to store data on the cloud or server and have the ability to access the information in a few seconds helps streamline multiple business processes. The key element I can use is the ability to store data of for example future clients, I can store their data on a cloud service and access it from anywhere as long as I have internet connection. It allows me to have my office in almost anywhere in the world.
-
The most important aspect of technology in the workforce, I believe, is being able to adapt to the changing environment. The technology used in the workforce, from ERDs to CRMs, is incredibly useful to provide any business with the tools they need to be successful. However, this technology is constantly changing and advancing so if you are not adapting and keeping up to date with the new technology you will lose crucial opportunities to put you above your competitors.
-
The important aspect of technology in the workforce is to keep ourself up to date with the technologies. Technologies is part of our life that most of us can’t live without as it helps us to solve a lot of business problem and also bring us a lot of convenience. Having high adapting skills and also a fast learner to stay up to date with the constant growth and improvement of technologies increase the productivity and efficiency of the business.
-
What I took away from this course is that technology doesn’t essentially make money for businesses. Technology helps businesses become way more efficient and in the process money is saved and proper steps are taken for better investments. Having a efficient business with the right software, helps companies have closer relationships with customers as well as having a good idea of where recourses are in the loop of manufacturing.

CRM and SCM are both very critical to an organization’s success. However, if a company was in a situation where they could only invest in one over the other, it would be a difficult decision. The type of industry the organization is in will determine whether they would invest in CRM or SCM. If a company depends highly on customer relationships, then CRM is the obvious choice, but for industries like oil, CRM would be a waste of an investment. Also, the choice could depend on the company’s current standing. If they were having issues with customers or structural problems, that would determine which to invest in.
-
CRM and SCM are both important to an organization. SCM make sure that all departments of the organization have their materials that they need to complete their work. CRM on the other hand, provide customer support to their customers. They deal with the sales, services, and support side of the organization. Both of these complete an organization as a whole and therefore, both are equally important.
-
As everyone has pointed out, both a CRM and SCM system are critical to an organization. I believe the CRM system is most critical. Business doesn’t exist without customers. An organization should base its operations on the customers needs. They are the start of the pull system or the processing of goods or services. In a pull system information flows back from the customer through organization and product or service flow is from the supplier through the organization to customer. It is important to have the ability to manage your supplier, but the end game is to give the customers what they need. Without the necessary data, information, or relationship with the customer an organization is ultimately unable to properly select the suppliers. CRM manages the most critical piece of business…the customer!
-
I think that both SCM and CRM are very critical to all companies. However, if I had to choose, I think that SCM would be more important. Supply Chain Management manages the flow of goods and services and without this, there would be no customer, making CRM unnecessary. For example, part of SCM ensures that there is enough, but not too much inventory (Just in Time Inventory). If the company had a poor supply chain management system, the customer might order something that the company did not order enough of, causing a delay in getting the product to the customer, which can affect the company’s relationship with the customer.
-
CRM and SCM both play a big role in an organization. CRM provides customer service where SCM makes sure the company has the materials it needs to complete business. I personally think that the CRM plays a bigger role for a company. Customer service should be one of the most important things for a business because without customers and good relations the business simply could not run. A company first needs to find a market then offer its services or materials to its customers. Without the CRM there would not be SCM.
-
I think that the relative importance of CRM & SCM really depends on which industry the company operates in. For manufacturing industry, SCM might be more important because it can help companies allocate production and manufacturing resources more efficiently, get cheaper supplies and distribute products in a more efficient and economical manner. Since manufacturing companies often have great costs of goods sold, a well-managed supply chain can greatly reduce the costs of producing and distributing products. For service companies, CRM might appear more important because their core differentiating competence is the ability to target and satisfy customers.
I think that using data from CRM system to target and tailor information for customers is totally acceptable provided that it is operated within the legal framework. After all, the data is collected by customers who willingly submitted their information and clicked to the privacy terms. -
I believe that having a CRM is more important than a SCM when starting out in an organization. Even though a SCM gives you the opportunity to optimize your supply, it is not possible at all without a proper platform in which the orders can be placed. This is where a great CRM comes in. A CRM system that is created and utilized properly gives an organization a clear advantage over its competitors and allows an organization to properly communicate with and analyze their customers’ data.
-
In my opinion, both CRM and SCM are critical to an organization. Customer Relationship Management refers to a process that focuses on identifying, maintaining, establishing and growing long-term relationships with a customer. This forms a bond between a customer and its business. One of the biggest benefits of a CRM is knowing who your customer is and helping to point them in the right direction or to keep them engaged so that they’ll continue to be part of your organization in one way or another. SCM allows for the tracking of goods, information, and other business-related details. Organizations increasingly find that they must rely on effective supply chains, or networks, to compete in the global market and networked economy. Both CRM and SCM play a big role in an organization.
-
SCM and CRM, they are both very important for a business, but I SCM is more important for a business.
We need to produce something, before we can take our product to a customer and we also need to make money. For these, we need SCM system.
Although, CRM help a company to know their customer, but in the same time, it sometimes get too personal. Privacy is a big issue in this case too. With proper way, CRM could be a game changer for any business. -
I believe CRMs bring more value to an organization, because it allows the firm to gain a deeper understanding of the customer, regardless of industry, so that business can be improved as stronger relationships are established, and in return, customer loyalty increased. Don Peppers, a renown marketer, said that “without customers you don’t have a business – you have a hobby”, and that quote seemed fitting when weighing in which system is more important to companies in general. At the same time, as our businesses collect more and more customer data to gain insight into their habits, I feel that we have a growing responsibility to invest in safeguarding this data, and in building a strong ethical corporate culture in our organizations; otherwise, corporations of all sizes will inevitably expose themselves to losing customers’ trust and/or risk failing altogether.
-
There is no doubt that both Supply chain management and Customer Relationship Management have a important role in an organization. They have different function and advantage in company operation, I think which system is better is depend on what kind of company is.Personally, CRM system is more important than SCM system because it gives a right direction that how to make customers satisfied and know how customers feel about their services and products.
-
Both CRM and SCM are highly important tools to run a successful business, however, I believe that CRM is a exponentially more important. For example, a business can have all the inventory in the world but if they aren’t able to manage their relationships with their customers than they won’t have a business. Secondly, I think that it is okay for businesses and organizations to start to utilize their customer data to get a better understanding for their customers because it works as a win-win situation. The business gets more revenue from the customer and the customer is continuously satisfied with their transactions.
-
In my opinion a CRM is more valuable to an organization than an SCM because it provides extremely valuable insights into customer habits and preferences. Businesses rely on their customer relationships possibly more than any other aspect, because in the end, if there are no customers, there is no business. Managing inventory with an SCM is still very important for cost and time efficiency. Personally, I feel that data collected by CRMs is fine as long as it is done in an ethical way, and the customer’s privacy is not compromised. I also think that there needs to be government regulations that ensure the protection of sensitive customer data.
-
Both CRM and SCM are very valuable assets to any company however, I believe SCM (Supply Chain Management) is more important than CRM (Customer Relationship Management). CRM allows you to know important information about your customers that can be used to target the right customers, keep current customers, and be the driving force of your sales. However, without a properly functioning SCM a CRM cannot strive. This is because without proper inventory, organization, and implementation that a SCM provides you cannot truly offer the services a CRM is made to utilize.
-
I think the CRM is the more important to the organization. Organization are able to succeed do to their clientele base. Without the clientele, they would have to close do to not making profits. Therefore, CRM or customer relationship management to me is more import than SCM. SCM are still important to organization though.
-
In order to run a company to its full potential, you would need both SCM and CRM. But to me without a SCM a company cant function correctly. With the lack of a SCM the company many not be efficient enough to get tasks done, or make a wrong amount of an item and just so much is at risk. When it comes to CRM, it makes advertising and selling much easier. If you put time into your customers you will inevitable build a stronger relationship and know how and what to sell to the said person.
-
It’s hard to decide as both are important to an organization. I am ultimately going to say that CRM is more important to an organization because in my job, we focus more of the importance of CRM versus. We use CRM more heavily because all the other departments in our business group use it. So sales starts with CRM, my department (implementations) receives it and then it’s passed to customer service thereafter for maintaining it.
-
SCM and CRM are both important to an organization. Supply chain management strategies enable companies to ensure the business has the materials, information and financial resources it needs to produce quality goods and services in a timely manner, while customer relationship management programs are used to ensure parts and service get to customers when needed after sales are completed by automating business processes used for sales, service and support. In my opinion, they are both equally important, both strategies work together to maximize efficiency of one organization.
-
I believe both are essential to the success of an organization. But, if I had to choose one I would choose CRM. I think CRM is more important to an organization because CRM works to attain and attract clients to the organization. Without a client base, there is no need for SCM, although SCM does help to keep and attract clients as well.
-
In my option, CRM and SCM are very important for a business organization. They just focus on the different emphasis. Integrate supply chain management and customer relationship management functions to maximize benefit operations.
Supply chain personnel work with vendors. Supply chain management strategies enable companies to ensure the business has quality goods and services in a timely manner.
Customer relationship personnel work with customers. Customer relationship management programs are used to ensure parts and service get to support. However, CRM is more important to the organization. Every company is easier to find the suppliers, but it hard to find the customers. Because when customer value the customer service that they receive from suppliers, they are less likely to look to alternative suppliers for their needs. CRM enables organizations to gain competitive advantage over competitors.
-
I believe SCM are more important tan CRM because although having a great relationship with your customer is definitely a plus one can’t manage a business without have the proper details of inventory, etc. One wants to have a great relationship with their customers so they will buy another product, because having a SCM is what is essential to being successful in business. SCM can make or break your business and buy having information about a business you can progress. You can learn from your mistakes and give customers a product that they want.

I think that, in the American economy, that the SCM is more important than the SCM. We have seen businesses that have grown exponentially and have evolved greatly due to their ability to have a strategic focus on supply chain management. Using Walmart as an example, this SCM based company has put many CRM based companies out of business simply for them to be able to effectively move their commodities to where they are needed in the most effective and efficient ways possible.
-
I believe both SCM and CRM are important to organizations. I think it depends on what type of organization it is to determine whether SCM or CRM is more important. If there is a retail company, i think SCM would be the better program to use because the majority of the company’s product has a supply chain, so it is important to manage that accordingly. However, a retailer should still utilize CRM because customers drive the sales. On the other hand, if the organization is a travel agency like we discussed in class, CRM would be the better fit because a service oriented organization is not reliant on its supply chain as heavily. Instead, their business is driven by the customers they acquire. I think that using CRM’s data to learn more about your customers can be a very beneficial tool for businesses. The more you efficient you are at finding new customers or serving your existing customers can help grow a business.
-
I think that both SCM and CRM are important in an organizations. Each have their own benefits in an organization. I feel that CRM is a bit more important because you can use a CRM when dealing with a large customer service base organization. CRM helps the employees respond more quickly and effectively. Tracking the steps along the way so your business is collecting mounts of data. You can use that data to formulate better plans that will help your organization and make it more profitability in the long run.
-
I think CRM is very important to an organization because its makes it easy for companies to work together on specific projects. The company I work for has their own CRM system and it is used to keep tract of clients we have and the activities for each person. The CRM system we have in place makes it easy to transfer different tasks from one employee to another, without having to worry about mix ups.
-
I agree with most of my fellow classmates post that SCM and CRM are both vital to most organizations success. While supply chain management I believe is just as vital if I had to chose, I would choose CRM as being the most vital. As we discussed in class CRM focuses on maximizing profits. As a ” for profit” business or organization, that is the goal. While reducing cost is a key process making more money can outweigh the cost reduction.
-
I think both CRM and SCM are vital. . Each one has their own benefits to help a company success. If I had to chose one, I think that CRM is more important, because regardless your type of business, you have to build customer relationship. Nothing is more important to a business than its customers; protecting and developing those relationships are the key to future success.
-
Both SCM and CRM are vital to an organization. However, I feel like CRM is more important because that would imply that there is a strong, positive relationship between customers and businesses. Thus, if something were to go wrong on the supply chain end, the business wouldn’t have to worry as much about how their clients take it because they should have a good relationship. After discussing CRM’s, I thought it is useful for any company because the information collected creates a better look at customer make up and can help the company in the future to better adjust to the needs of their customers, while at the same time initiating a better relationship between the customer and the company.
-
Based on what we have learned it seems as though SCMs and CRMs are both equally important to run a successful business. Both are important for different reasons. SCM helps a firm function properly and CRMs help with customer relations. I think if I had to pick one that is more important it would be CRM. While SCM is important I think CRM is more important due to the fact the customers keep a business thriving. Without pleased customers there is no business.
-
In my opinion CRM is the more important system to master within an organization. I think that the data that comes with analyzing CRM is invaluable to an organization. Understanding and tracking your customer is very important to knowing your brand and what the consumer wants. This will allow businesses adapt and further succeed because they know what the consumer wants and how they react to what the business is doing.

Although it is still in development, the innovation of self-driving cars as being the primary form of transportation for many commuters is a very probable future. This innovation is extremely important because it will revolutionize so many different markets from the car industry, to car rental services, to delivery services, and even the food industry. The current business model is that people own a personal vehicle, or many, and personally drive them as required. This new innovation of self-driving cars will enable people to still get where they want to go, but without the effort of driving themselves and opening up the possibility of never even owning a car.
-
One of most important and up and coming auto-mated system, was Amazon`s Alexa; which allows you to use your voice to electronically operate anything in the house including the TV as well as other appliances or electronics. I also heard of a automatic hover-vacuum, and a auto-mated machine that can cut your grass, which is amazing to think of these days. Now you can see more and more automatic intelligent systems like you mentioned in class last night. The washer and dryer, that tells you when you have too many clothes, or if your need tide delivered to your house; also the refrigerator which can check for items that you need and automatically add to your list for you. In the future many businesses will probably have many if not multiple automatic devices in the company both physically and digitally speaking. These recent inventions seem to only be just the beginning.
-
I think one of the great innovations of the past few years is video streaming services. Most people never thought television or cable television in particular could be overcome by any other video streaming service. However, netflix paved the way to making online video streaming services the future of video consumption. Now there are companies like hulu, amazon, and even apple getting into the video streaming marketplace. This innovation has completely changed the way people watch television and has made the marketplace very competitive for cable companies for possibly the first time ever. Now more than ever huge celebrities and movie stars are now looking to video streaming services such as netflix to air their shows instead of basic cable providers and network television. This has truly flipped the game on its head and I think will only continue to grow in the future.
-
I think one business that has been disrupted the most and will continue is cable companies. With the rise of video on demand channels such as Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime Video, and more, many people are beginning to stop buying cable and just using these services for their entertainment. Who would have thought 10 years ago that cable companies would be losing thousands of customers a year? I think a lot of it has to do with customers having more choices in their home entertainment and cable companies not adjusting their price or product to compete with this competition.
-
The innovation as a storm can always destroy many businesses and create the much new businesses at the same time. The most attractive innovation for me is self-driving cars. First of all, I think this kind of cars requires traffic engineering to be a standard to fulfill the needs when it on road. secondly, the biggest challenge for self-driving is how to deal with improper situations, such as drunk driving, a bad weather, or a malfunction signal light. So when you look into an innovation deeply you call tell how many opportunities exists and how many models of business will be out of date.
-
In my opinion, one of the most interesting and important innovations within the last few years is the use of Uber as public transportation. The usage of Uber has skyrocketed over the past few years, because of its convenient stress-free way to get from place to place without actually owning a car. What once started in densely populated urban areas has now expanded to a growing number of cities around the world as well as less populated suburban areas. Uber is not only convenient for the person requesting a ride but has also created opportunities for employment for those giving the rides. The drivers or “employees” of Uber also experience the convenience of working from their own vehicle and on their own hours. In conclusion, both the users and employees of Uber benefit greatly from this technological innovation.
-
I think the concept of internet television, such as Netflix, Hulu, etc. has revolutionized entertainment as we know it. On-Demand television makes it easier and cheaper for consumers to enjoy their favorite shows without commercials, and whenever and wherever they want. The original television business alternate was buying cable. This becomes rather expensive, includes commercials, and extras consumers may not use/want.
-
I find the innovations like Uber and Lyft to be useful and two of the most important innovations in the last few years. They are both used as public transportation and people can rely on them to travel to and from their destinations. This reduces the risk of drunk driving for many as well as careless driving, not to mention that it is also convenient. They also create job opportunities for people who want to earn extra cash on the side.
-
I think that Venmo and other forms of mobile-pay will eventually change certain aspects of how businesses operate. Venmo is connected to your debit card and allows you to pay other people who have the app with one click of a button. Eventually, I believe stores will begin to utilize mobile-pay since it is much more convenient than using cash or a card. This is a huge change to how businesses except payments and it definitely has the potential to take over the paying process.
-
I think that one of the most interesting rises of technology is venmo. Someone who has a venmo account has their debit card linked with their account and can send money to any person who has an account. Venmo is something that I use nearly everyday. It is ideal for college students and I believe in years to come business are going to be open to receiving venmo. I think this is a step in the right direction to get rid of debit cards. The more active use of venmo could help cut back on credit card theft.
-
I think Alexa is the most interesting invention over the last year. It is annoying at times when it can’t understand you, but you can say literally anything to it and it will respond with an answer. It’s definitely an upgrade from Siri on your cell phone because it hands free and all you have to say is “Alexa.” I also believe that this invention isn’t the best because it will make people lazy since they don’t have to get out of there or stop what there doing to push a button.
-
Bionic limbs are some of the most important technical innovations of the past several years. These advancements in limb replacement have far surpassed their predecessors by giving amputees a chance to live a normal lifestyle. Companies such as Ossur and Mobius Bionics are continuously pushing the limit of what a patient can expect out of limb replacement. They have spurred major medical corporations to reassess their position in the marketplace and invest serious money in the future of limb replacement technology.
-
Personally, I think that the most important innovation that was made in the past few years was the introduction of self-driving cars. This innovation is going to completely impact a wide variety of fields in the business world (i.e. auto insurance, car sharing services, and automotive dealers). Although we won’t personally see a vast majority of driverless cars on the road for quite a few years, this simple innovation is going to have a waterfall effect on our technological future.
-
I think one of the most interesting innovations in the last few years has been AR, or augmented reality, because it has the potential to revolutionize how we handle many tasks in our personal and work lives. Products such as Microsoft’s HoloLens will change the way we collaborate at work, for example, and will allow us to communicate our ideas to others in a perfectly visual way that is easier to understand. Currently, primitive versions of AR glasses are in use in the warehousing and manufacturing industries to issue instructions to employees while leaving their hands free to work, which means that employees can now work faster, and more efficiently than they ever could before, opening many possibilities for these industries to maximize optimization while exponentially improving their assembly lines and results.
-
This week, we talked about disruptive innovation & how the rise of technology has completely changed many business and consumer driven actions. What I think was the most interesting is the self driving cars. It has changed what the future consumer will be deciding when its time to get a new car. It will also change how insurance companies look at people drive the cars, since people won’t be driving them any more. This will also change who is responsible for the car if there is a crash. The the original business model won’t be able to be used anymore. Since people where driving before, but now that a computer is doing the driving. Car companies will have to look into have to keep the car from getting hacked into as well.
-
I think one of the most interesting disruptive innovations is sharing economy, which has enabled many new businesses to emerge in the form of online transaction. This includes Uber and Airbnb. These services not only greatly enhanced consumers’ travelling experience by giving them more options at a lower cost, but also help allocate social resources in a more efficient manner. Cars and houses will no longer be idle, and owners of these properties can make the most out of their assets.
-
Electronic funds transfer (EFT). Since I work in financial industry, I thought, talking about money would be better for me. EFT has change the whole financial industry. People don’t like to even come to a banking location like before. People are transferring of millions of dollars between banks and other financial institutions every day. The real appeal of EFT today is its trickle down to the individual. We can get cash from our bank account anywhere in the world, and use PayPal to buy and sell on eBay without any hassle of a checks or a money order.
-
In this weekly question, we are going to talk about innovations and technology developing in these years. I think the most important innovation that change the world is smart phone. The reason why smart phone is so important is it has a lot of functions and it provides conveniences for people. We can sent e-mails, reading news and browsing websites on the smart phone, we can even working or studying on smart phones. It still changing our life.
-
The most important innovation I believe is artificial intelligence. I believe this technology will reshape the business world and replace many lower level and entry level positions in the workforce. As of right now I don’t think there are any tangible products to name as the most important or interesting innovation just that this technology has the potential to replace many jobs. I believe its potential, if achieved, will help driver less cars become a reality, which will affect transportation services like shipping and the taxi/Uber/lyft industry. This technology in my opinion is the base for the transformation of our modern world to step into the next era of smart technology.
-
I think the most interesting innovation in the last few years is blockchain technology, which is well known because of bitcoins (virtual currency). Basically, blockchain is proof of a bitcoin transaction on the network. Bitcoin data is permanently stored on blocks. Blockchain is a public digital ledger that cannot be altered. Once a transactions falls through anyone on the network will be able to see that a transaction was made, while participating parties will have access to the details of the transaction. It is essentially storage for records; including bank transactions, agreements, and contracts. I think blockchain technology is pretty interesting because it has the potential to prevent corruption, fraud, and other unethical practices in the finance industry.
-
I believe that the most interesting innovation in the past few years was the app called venmo, which lets you pay people over the phone directly from your bank account. Venmo is just one of the many up and coming e-commerce apps that are changing the way we use and spend money everyday. In today’s world convenience is everything to a consumer and venmo took a very large step in the convenience aspect of online banking.
-
Within the last few years one of the most interesting innovation is, streaming services. Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu has changed the way we watch TV. Most people I know have turned in their cable boxes for Netflix or Hulu, Streaming services has also affected the movie theater. People find it easier to stay at home and watch Netflix for $9.99 a month, rather than buying a $15 movie ticket just to see one movie.
-
I think the most interesting business innovation in the last few years is ride sharing apps such as Uber and Lyft. These companies are driving out cab drivers and reducing the use of public transportation. The apps allow people to order rides from nearly anywhere and have a driver pick them up. The app uses your credit card to pay for rides and can tell you how much a ride will cost before you even order it. Also, it allows you to choose different car sizes and will tell the user who will be picking them up. Also, these apps allow ordinary people to become their own boss and be drivers whenever they want. A driver can make up their own hours. This technology personalizes the concept of ride sharing for both drivers and riders.

The most interesting innovation over the past few yes in my opinion has been the logistical efficiency of online retailers, mainly Amazon. The ability to order just about anything at a very competitive price and receive free next day shipping was almost a fantasy not long ago. Now most of us wouldn’t know how to replace the convenience of services like Amazon. With their ever improving logistical technology, the speed and cost at which we receive the purchases we make every day will only reduce in the coming years. Fully autonomous deliveries will undoubtedly be the biggest game changer in the industry.
-
Something that has changed the way companies do business is the internet. Because of the internet some buisnesses thrived and some failed. In the this day and age you can look up what you need to purchase from your cellphone and depending on when you need it you can purchance your item. for retailers such as amazon it makes it very simple to order whatever you need and not have to leave your home. But the internet can also make or break a company. If a new store opens up and they dont take initiative to build an online catalog they could be missing out on valuable customers.
-
I believe the most important innovation in the last few years is the technology found in Venmo and Google Wallet. These are apps that allow people to transfer money, using debit card information, to anyone who has an account. It makes it incredibly convenient for money to be transferred without the fear of fraud or theft. Also, I can see it becoming incorporated into businesses within the coming years because it would make the handling of orders and money much easier and quicker.
-
In my opinion, I would say the most important innovation in the last few years is smartphone. These days smartphone is the most important devices that you use to help with your life. I believe that most of us have one. There is so much that you can do with a smartphone and so many different ways in which they play a key role in your life. You can use your smartphone like a miniature laptop nowadays. Another thing that make smartphone so vital to our daily life is their efficiency and the connectivity. The speed with which you can do tasks on a smartphone is almost unparalleled. In fact, there are some occasions in which they may even be faster than using computers. Besides, this isn’t just improvements in phone calls and text messaging. But there are also the number of connectivity options available. Through your smartphone, you can access Facebook and other social networking sites with ease. The size of smartphone makes it almost like a miniature computer.
-
I think the most important invention of the last few years (other than the smart phone) would be tablets/ light weight laptops. I think this is important because they have an impact in many different business as well as changing how/when business is done. With those devices being so light weight and portable, along with the changes in wifi and 4g, business is more convenient than ever because it can be done anywhere at any time. As for how they impact the business model the first is in the computer/ laptop business. The first change as I said is in design, lighter and portable changes the completion in the market and the design. Then there is the impact in other markets like book store. Now that we can read on tablet (cheaper the buying the books themselves) bookstores are obsolete running them out of business.
-
I would have to say one of the most important innovations in the last few years was Uber. Uber created a whole new system to navigating from place to place. It took the original business model of taxi cabs and made it much easier to use. Instead of having to manually go outside and get a cab, people are now able to use their smartphones to call acab and give exactly where their destination is. Not only is it quicker to access, but it also makes payment much less of a hassle by being hooked up to a credit card and paying automatically. Uber has been used by millions of people and made traveling much easier. These methods of transportation also offer jobs to anyone looking to make some extra cash.
-
For me the most important innovation in the last few years is Facebook. Since it started, it has changed so many things like how we keep in touch, how we consume content and how businesses interact with customers. Things that were private to us now are plastered on your social profile. For some people its the first thing they see in the morning. Fifteen years ago we had to wait until the next day to see the news from before and now political news, sports scores, funny videos are posted almost instantly and now you can be live on Facebook. The of Facebook, forced brands to think how to deal with customers. Now, if someone complains on a brand’s Facebook page, a customer-service rep responds. News travels fast on social media, and the last thing a brand wants is for an angry customer to tell all his friends about a poor experience. I think that Facebook changed our lives and its going to be hard to create a better innovation than this.
-
I feel that one of the most interesting innovations in the past few years has been the introduction of person to person ride sharing in the form of Uber and Lyft. These companies were able to take ahold of the same market as taxis and completely overrun the industry almost overnight all while owning zero cars as companies. These companies have allowed for everyday people to become drivers and food deliverers when needed and have allowed people such as my self to have peace of mind in knowing that there will always be a way home if needed.
-
Over the last few years I personally think video streaming services are an interesting invention. Companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, ect have really changed the way people watch TV and movies everyday. Instead of driving to the store to pick out a movie you can instantly do it through the click of a couple buttons. Although these companies have put a lot of other companies out of business (Movie Galley, Blockbuster) they have changed the way we watch TV/movies for the better by making it more convenient.
-
There are many industries that have been disrupted by the todays technologies. Brick and mortars are less important than they once were due to online accessibility. One of the most notable is the Blockbuster fall to Netflix, which now challenges the major cable companies. E Commerce has disrupted the retail landscape as seen with the steady decline of department store revenues. Amazon being at the top of the food chain in this category. Then there is the auto industry which is being flipped on it head by the likes Uber and Lyft. This list goes on and on, but what makes all of this successful is our 24 hour access to the internet. Just about everything today has wireless or blutooth capability which allows us to be mobile and access things that generally required being at home or at a department store. The IoT has to be the most disruptive innovation as it spans so many industries. As a consumer the possibilities with the internet and cloud capabilities appear to be endless.

I am majoring in Finance but ERPs and Data Analytics is important not in the Finance field but also other business fields. It allows us to understand and have a clear view of the data in order to better assist the customer and do our jobs thoroughly. Good data and bad data have an impact on daily jobs because suppose if you are making a statistics graph. The data can mess up the graphs and provide incorrect information. Therefore, ERPs and Data Analytics are crucial in the business industry to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
-
Since I am a financial planning major, whether I have good data and bad data could positively or negatively affect how I do my job in the future. For example, if I am planning for someone’s retirement, I need to know some basics such as the person’s salary. If I form a retirement plan for this person and later discover that the information I received regarding the salary was inaccurate (maybe this is the salary the person was making a few years back), the plan I formed would be no good and I would have to start over. Receiving the correct data is crucial in all areas of business.
-
Since I am majoring in BBA- in Management, the ERP and Data Analytic tools can be used pretty much in every facet or sector of an organization. Many entities are inter-twined and connected with each other, especially when you talk about the broad sense of Business Management. As far as data analytics; if your company can`t review data and make adjustments then your company or business will not progress in the future. The whole idea of data analytics is collecting data, reviewing data, and making the right and successful changes that can benefit your business based from your data that you obtained over a certain time period.
-
I am majoring in Accounting, and the data that I would deal with in an ERP relating to Accounting would be data relating to compliance with laws. Given that the data relates to laws, it is obviously important that the data describing those laws are correct. If the data are not correct, then the clients or us accountants could be under lawful scrutiny and potential fines could be incurred. Also, having any bad data in regards to people’s financial data is extremely undesirable given the precision required when dealing with financial matters.
-
My major is accounting and I have been working in financial industry for a while now. Every piece of data in financial industry is very crucial. One wrong data can change the total outcome. One of the most important personal data that financial industry needs is credit history. With proper system, it will make our job much easier and accurate.
-
I’m majoring in actuarial science. The job of an actuary is to analyze data to analyze the probability and likely cost to the company of an event. Actuary also address financial matters of a company. Collecting good data is important to an actuary in evaluating various type of risk as inaccurate data could alter the calculation of a risk and lead to a huge mistake.
-
Data is extremely important in the business world, or any world for that matter. I am a business management major and data can be useful in any type of business. Collecting data on consumers can give a great deal of insight on what consumers like and dislike, buy or don’t buy, and what is positive or negative about your business. Consumer data provides businesses with the answer key to what they need to be selling and what demographic they need to be reaching. In this day and age if you are not using consumer analytics then your are behind the curve from a business and sales standpoint.
-
As a current intern for a commercial real estate brokerage, it is essential to have an up-to-date database of buyers and sellers within the market. All of the brokers that I work with including myself rely on our database for accurate and helpful information. Our database includes the name, address, email, phone number and current market position for every single buyer and seller in the commercial real estate business around the tri-state area. This information is constantly depended on and it directly contributes to the success of the company. A poorly constructed or inaccurate database would lead to little or no business for the brokers in our office since they would not have the contacts to gain listings.
-
I’m a major in Marketing and in this field ERPs and Data Analytics is extremely important for us. We haven’t used ERPs, but I believe they are a good solution to avoid problems at all costs. Currently, I have my own business shared with one other person and we’re a clothing line called Fit Religion. We have used Data Analytics on our websites and social media accounts to see what we can do to help customers, have better marketing, and most importantly satisfy everyone who has Fit Religion apparel on.
-
Collecting good data, and having one clear view of that data and customer are important in my major, Marketing, and future career because they will be instrumental in the decision-making process on an ongoing basis. For example, in sales and promotion, testing is crucial to prove the existence of a customer need, and to find an optimal way to position a product. Having the right information in an organized, clear way leads to faster, educated decisions that will impact future results positively, therefore improving the way we do business. On the other hand, bad data could lead to bad decisions that may result in an unsuccessful marketing campaign; reputational losses (because our customers may feel like we do not understand their needs); or worse, it could lead our business to failure.
-
Collecting good data is crucial to any business, so it is important to know why and how we use it. As an accounting major, I figured having good data might be especially useful when our busy season — tax season — is approaching. Having clear and accurate data would make it easy to review reports from the previous year to predict how many staff people will be needed for the upcoming tax season. We would assume this might be more than usual, but looking at records from prior years would make the most efficient use of everyone’s time by not over or under staffing during this busy time.
-
I am majoring in business management and ERPs and Data Analytics is very important for people within my major. I am currently working at TMNA services in their tax department. Having good data is very useful while doing taxes. Having organized and clear data makes it easy for me while doing month and year ended taxes for the business. Having organized data from the past allows me to go back to prior months or years to compare current reports making it easier for me complete the busy work while in the office.
-
Collecting and analyzing data is a crucial aspect of any business or industry for multiple reasons. As a marketing major, I plan on collecting and analyzing data for whatever task is at hand. Businesses without well-integrated databases can face detrimental issues in regard to efficiency, communication and customer service. It is drastically important to have different sectors of an organization or business well informed and working off of the same data because then there will be less room for mistakes based off of false data. If everyone in the business has one clear view of the data then it will make it much easier for each branch in the business(accounting, marketing, sales, human resources, etc.) to plan and map out the best possible strategy to successfully do their jobs.
-
As an orthopedic sales representative, I am at the mercy of our marketing teams, and specifically our product managers, as they read and analyze data on a continuous basis. With the data that they collect, their opinions regarding certain products to focus on in the field are formed and voiced to upper management. This data is then utilized to create usage predictions that impact product development, production, and availability. This is very important to my current position as an orthopedic sales representative because it gives me a roadmap in which I am able to sell products that I know will be readily available both now and in the future. If our company would collect the wrong type of necessary data or if it was interpreted incorrectly, both my sales and my customers could be affected in a negative manner.
-
I am an advertising major in the Account Manager track, I know in my field data is really important to us because we need to know who we are talking to. Using tools like ERT and data Analytics is essential to for advertisers when working for a companies who don’t know who their target is, or is planning on launching a new product. Advertisers need to be able to go in and find that information and having secondary resources is very important when trying to find out who the best target for a particular product is.
-
I am majoring in International Business, and I am planning to be an auditor in the future. Good data is particularly important to my intended career path because as an auditor, it is essential to get accurate and well-integrated financial data in order to conduct auditing effectively. Sometimes I have heard auditors say that certain companies have really awful corporate IT systems and that it is difficult to retrieve relevant financial data from different departments, or that the same piece of data obtained from different departments are different. All of these are essentially the problems of bad data or bad data resources, which can add significant difficulty to the job. Therefore, good data will be very important for my daily job as an auditor.
-
Good data and an integrated system is crucial in my major and future field – Supply Chain Management – as well. My first real exposure to systems was even in an operations class last semester. Systems and good data is incredibly important when it comes to supply chain because one mistake could throw off the entire process. Therefore, it is incredibly important to have good data and a program that can assist in making sure everything is accounted for. Technology helps tremendously with efficiency and accuracy.
-
For the accounting department it is important to collect good data and have an integrated system because all data is sensitive and relates to one another; one wrong number can cause numerous others to be incorrect. The timing of data is also crucial so having a real time data view allows a more clear picture of the companies position financially. An effective ERP also helps accounting with the many financial regulations companies must comply with. For example, if there are employees traveling and working in different locations their income taxes must be paid to the state they are working in so keeping an updated time sheet helps companies plan ahead for where they will owe payroll taxes.
-
Thinking about my future career in business, it is critical to have good data and an integrated system for everyone. It is so important because in order to succeed everyone needs to be in constant communication with the same data to run the most efficiently. Being in supply chain, I would have to talk to a number of different departments such as procurement, accounting, and so on and having the most up to date information is critical when discussing current business.
-
Being a Marketing Major I can’t even imagine How often I will depend on ERP and Data Analytics for information to make decisions. There are many aspects this could apply to from what products are selling most and where, or the amount of money and time spent on a particular area and if it is being utilized properly. I will find that both subjects feed off each other because the information I get form the ERP will allow me to utilize Data Analytics to analyze how and where better to market products to people. I will Depend heavily on these systems and the information they provide so without accuracy it would be useless. This is why the ERP is so important, because I will be able to gather accurate information without overloading any one system keeping the business running and successful.
-
I am studying in MIS. The relevance for a worker to have up to date information is extremely crucial. When it comes to information you need to know what you’re dealing with or the right steps can not be taken. An example would be if the system doesn’t update every day to tell a worker whats in stock, a problem occurs when an order is placed and the workers dont have sufficient resources in order to make that product.
-
Like many of my classmates, I understand the importance of good data and it’s important. Working as a global project manager for a major bank, we rely heavily on internal systems that house the information for the client. My job specifically is meant to streamline and make my client’s day to day interactions with my bank easy. If data that we have is incorrect, it could have numerous negative repercussions. From payroll to other payments, the data we house is very important. We would never want a mistake on our part to negatively impact our client(s). The impacts would lead to numerous escalations.
-
I think every major would benefit from Data Analytics. When it comes to Data Analytics a company needs to know the good and bad. When they find that they are getting a bad data analytics they than know what they need to fix. If they have a good data analytics, they know to keep doing whatever it is that they are doing. For the ERP the company needs to know what is going on and when something goes wrong they need to know how to fix it.
-
For my future career in business, it will be very vital to understand the importance of good and bad information. If incorrect information is inputted by an Accountant or Finance person it could cost a company thousands of dollars. Another way where bad information could cause problems is with inventory. If someone makes a mistake and inputs the wrong amount of inventory on hand it could cause the company to order too much of a product or not order enough of a product. As a Marketing major, I will be analyzing a lot of information and if there are errors with that information I will not be able to perform my job to the best of my ability.
-
Being an Economics major, it is important to have good data because it will help you gain accurate representations of real world quants. For example accurate data will show accurate GDP, unemployment, and inflation rates. Inaccurate data can cause highly volatile markets and a large amount of uncertainty when analyzing data from any perspective. With the use of ERP systems that help separate good data from bad data, businesses can then become more efficient therefor more successful. This trend is evident throughout all majors and fields.
-
As a Finance major, having good data can be one of the most important parts of my work. In finance, numbers are a huge factor and they need to be stored properly. For example, a company’s balance sheet and pro forma must always be accurate and up to date. If i company has errors within their books it can overstate or understate the overall well being of a company. If the data in their balance sheet is overstated, it could wrongly influence key business decisions. Additionally, mishandling balance sheets and financial records can be a federal offense subject to punishment, therefore having good data is very important in the field of finance.
-
Collecting data is very important and every data has good or bad data and being a Finance major it is crucial. If there is positive data, a business can see what they are doing right and what they need to keep doing to have a positive data. Understanding an organization is key to reaching the success of a business. Having bad data can lead to the realization of what needs to change, what the customers want more of, how to reduce receiving bad data, and keeping an open mind of changes that needs to come for a business when data is important for a business. Therefore, having good or bad data can change the way the company is progressing and adapting.
-
My major is Human Resource Management; good or bad data would have a huge impact on recruiting new hires for a position. Good data means the candidate is well qualified for the position and should be hired. Bad data could lead to hiring the wrong candidate for the wrong position.
-
It is important to collect good data because it allows people to make the best business decisions. I am learning at my internship how accurate and timely data allows the associates and managers to make assumptions and decisions about the future. In Finance, collecting good data is especially important because it gives a company a competitive advantage. Having bad data at a job in my field can put the company at a disadvantage. It would waste time and cause the associates and managers to make decisions that wouldn’t help the company at the end.
-
Collecting data can be helpful towards any business major. I am an accounting major and i believe data is very crucial when it comes to the financials of a business. Without correct data on a businesses finances, it can be the difference from having a successful startup or a complete failure. Also, data in accounting can be very useful to make transactions smoother.
-
As an Entrepreneurship major, I hope to one day launch an innovative business venture that will become successful. However, I know in order to do this in today’s ever more competitive technological landscape, having key analytical data is critical. Take marketing for example, possibly one of the most crucial aspects in spreading the word of a new business. Without tools like Google analytics, it is impossible to know what is generating traffic to your website. It is impossible to know what marketing techniques are working, and which ones are a waste of resources.
-
I think that collecting data is very important in life, regardless of the field you’re studying because it maintains the integrity of the research. As a marketing major, I think that no data is bad, because it helps you understand what consumers want. Data can help businesses better manage their operations and the information obtained can help businesses identify efficiencies that lead to higher productivity and profitability, lower input costs, and help businesses grow.
-
Collecting data is essential across all fields of study as research drives businesses. Without research we wouldn’t obtain data and knowledge about essential topics we need to succeed. An good example of this is Google Analytics, which helps users identify data about website traffic.
-
I am an accounting major who works in manufacturing and it is extremely important to have an ERP system in an organization. It is critical for a business to be able to evaluate how they are doing from a financial standpoint. ERP helps production capture hours and cost on specific jobs, which in turn provides sales with a target price, and supply chains with the information needed to understand vendor cost and the impact it has on margin. All these elements critical to reporting and shareholder pricing. The analytics of this data is necessary to improve these key metrics.
-
I‘m major in finance. I think collect data is a really crucial step in business because a good collection of data can help people have a right direction or vision to do decision in business. On the other hand, collecting data also can provide a accurate evaluation for us in this competitive market in future.
-
ERPs and Data Analytics can help us analyze data more effecive. Last week in China, the largest E-commerce company Alibaba and the largest express company SF have a serious dispute because of data. Both of them censure other want to filch their data which can analyze customers’ behavior.

In information systems, we use decision trees when constructing databases. However, there are other uses for decision trees. One situation where a decision tree would be helpful would be to decide between two options. For example, say you want to go on vacation with your family, but you can’t decide between two destinations. You could make a decision tree based on the weather of that location (if it is going to rain at one location, do not go there; if it is not going to rain at the other location, choose that location), flight prices, hotel prices, amount of activities, etc. “Decision” trees can be extremely helpful when trying to “decide” on something.
-
Other than the Business world, they can be used pretty in everyday life situations. If one has a good experience with decision trees in the business world, they can then translate it to the real world, when problems or decisions arise and need to be made. Decision trees are helpful, not only because they are graphics that help you ‘see’ what you are thinking, but also because making a decision tree requires a systematic, documented thought process. Often, the biggest limitation of our decision making is that we can only select from the known alternatives. Decision trees help formalize the brainstorming process so we can identify more potential solutions. Applied in real life, At times decision trees can be very complex and end up including pages of options. But, regardless of the complexity, decision trees are all based on the same principles. And someone we good experience or an extensive background in decision trees from the business world can perfectly translate to the real world.
-
When you get two great job offer and not sure which one to pick. I think, we all would love to have a situation like this and use Decision Tree. It will make our lives much more easier.
-
That would be a great decision tree to make!
-
-
In my opinion, I think that a decision tree can be helpful not only in business, but also in personal choices as well. Decision tree makes everything easier to be understood. It is also helpful for those people who don’t know how to make decision come to a better decision. Decision tree is also a great tool to plan out a study plan or daily schedule. It laid everything out and it helps you to make the best decision.
-
Decision trees can help people make positive choices regardless of the subject. For example, when choosing which college to attend you could use a decision tree to outline the perks and potential experience of multiple schools. Included in the decision tree could be distance from home and how that effects your life, tuition costs and student loan debt, is it a small school or big school, etc. By using the decision tree to outline the possibilities of multiple options, you can give yourself a view of which path is best for you. Having the ability to see what each path has in store allows us to make the best decisions possible.
-
Other than in information systems, I think decision trees can be used in supply chain management. After taking MSOM 3101 I learned that it is best to visualize a process. For example a decision tree can be used when trying to visualize the process in a distribution center. The decision tree will allow someone to see the different outcomes depending on the business rules of the distribution center. The decision tree will be able to answer questions like, is the item in stock? If so what happens next? and more. Some people can visualize this process in their heads, while others need to visualize it on paper. The decision tree helps with that.
-
Great tie into SCM –
-
-
A decision trees are useful tool utilized within the information systems field. They allow for individuals to pan out possible outcomes for an event/scenario and also calculate the costs of each possibility. But decision trees can also come to great use in other fields than just the information systems sector. An area that decision trees would be resourceful would be in comparing choosing a college major. Myself, as well as any other college students, struggle with declaring / sticking with a major based off of the difficulty, work load, time management, and overall enjoyment of choosing a major. By laying out the different factors (tuition costs between schools, average salary pay post graduation, amount of time study a week, course load, etc.) it may help for a student better analyze which major will best accommodate their personal and professional wants and need and allow for a major best suited for that individual to be chosen.
-
This may be hard to relate if you are not too technical, but this is what I thought of. I sometimes write programs for fun, and one of the tools that can be very beneficial for creating a good program is a decision tree. Decision trees help you to visualize all the possible different choices, and it helps you to keep track of options that are further down each branch. It may be hard to completely conceptualize all the different choices that can be made later if you have already made a choice. Decision trees keep track of all the information that you need in order to understand what you, or a software program, should do. So, decision trees are very helpful for writing programs, and I can see where this same use could be transferred to other areas of life where decisions nested under other decisions is very common.
-
Decision tress can be useful in many personal and professional situations. One example I could have seen a decision tree be helpful was when I was working at a golf club. There was not a lot of structure for the training of new employees and completing the day end task that needed to be done before closing the shop. Having a plan of tasks for new employees gives employees a sense of structure and knowledge of how to complete a job in a timely fashion. I know I learn faster when I have a physical schedule of what I need to do. A decision tree is a good way to explain the task at hand.
-
Decision trees can be very helpful in corporate life as well, particularly in terms of setting standard procedures for dealing with structured problems. For example, people who work at call centers for after-sales service can benefit a lot if they have been trained to deal with customer issues with a decision tree. They would be able to know where to start to approach customers with appropriate questions and decide on actions needed to be taken based on yes or no answers from customers. Since most low-skill jobs are still concerned with highly structured problems, companies can use decision trees as a useful and effective training tool to help establish standard practices and procedures.
Furthermore, decision trees are also helpful in everyday life whenever we are faced with decisions to make. For example, a family planning on where to go for vacation can use decision trees to take into account factors such as weather, sufficient financial resources, distances, visa availability etc. -
I think that decision trees could be a very useful good tool no matter in your career or in your daily life. Sometimes we usually have a fear of choice, for example, there are a lot of possibility or complex factors need to be integrated, if you don’t draw it out, you will not be able to have a clear thinking and making a decision. Decision trees make the things easier, draw it out can help with your logical thinking, organizing your data, it also a very good records for an event to restore in a hardware such as a laptop or smart phone. so I love this fancy tool very much.
-
I could see decision trees being used in a for Risk Management. Decision trees reduce the dangers a company might be exposed to if it settled on a moment’s decision without considering future consequences. A decision tree allows the company to take the time to think of multiple outcomes to a given situation and how to act or react accordingly. Since a company already outlined the possible consequences, facing risks become more manageable. The decision tree becomes a tool you can use to prepare for the risk.
-
Quality assurance is important in business to business relationships. This is evident in the requirement of having an ISO 9001 certification (standard of quality management system) from an accredited organization, and policy and procedure are the back bone of quality management systems. Standard operating procedures or standard administrative procedures are a great place to employee decision trees to ensure consistent results when faced with specific decisions.
-
I think that the a decision tree can be used in lot of different situations in your life, business, school, ect. Maybe you got accepted to three colleges and you aren’t sure which is the right one for you. You can draw out a decision tree and list the possible outcomes. Maybe if you went to NYC then you will study drama and become an actress but if you decide to go to Temple you will study business and become entrepreneur.
-
A decision tree would be beneficial in various situations in life. In particular, I believe a person purchasing a car would benefit from a decision tree. If a potential buyer is stuck between two cars, he/she could compose a decision tree and write out all the potential results from choosing one of the cars. If you choose an SUV, it could be larger monthly payments and may use more gas. However if you chose a hybrid, it will not use as much gas and could be potentially cheaper.
-
A decision tree would be useful when an individual is trying to get a visual representation of a decisive situation. In class, we talked about the use of decision trees in an information systems setting. However, the use of decision trees can expand far beyond business applications. For example, an individual could use a decision tree in every day life (ex. do I go to the movies or to the mall? Well if I go to the movies do i get the large popcorn or the small? If I get the small popcorn and saved some calories should I get the large soda or a water? etc). The use of decision trees can be beneficial in any day-to-day situation that will help an individual plan a sequential process of activities.
-
Decision trees are applicable in everyday life when you are dealing with a decision that has a multi-faceted outcome. For example, if you are deciding on taking a new job in a new town, rather than one in a location where you currently live. In this example, decision trees help to make the decision easier by visually being able to conceptualize housing options, schools for you children, or daily necessities and their outcomes. Also useful in other business aspects, marketers are able to use decision trees to help predict the outcome of specific marketing campaigns.
-
Decision trees are helpful in evaluating not only business alternatives but also real-life alternatives. They are a way of brainstorming ideas and decisions to come up with a possible outcome. For example, we can use decision trees to compare college or housing options. We can also use them to consider apartments and states to move in.
-
A decision tree would be beneficial not only for business but in a real-life situation as well. For example, we can use a decision tree in a preparation for the upcoming birthday party. Let us suppose that we have to prepare for the 5th birthday party and 30 people coming for the party in the afternoon. We have a pleasant backyard and a house that is not too large; so, if the weather permits, we would like to set up the party outside. On the other hand, if it begins to rain, guests will get damp and everyone would be unhappy. Based on this example, we can visualize and build a decision tree. We have two choices: outdoor and indoor. If we choose outdoor, it might rain or no rain. If it rains then it is a disaster, if not its a comfort. If we choose indoor, and it rains, then its mild discomfort but everyone is happy. If it does not rain, then it’s a mild discomfort but regrets. A decision tree is very helpful in a situation with several actors and many activities.
-
A decision tree is a versatile tool that I could see being helpful in any area that requires organization and/or prioritization of ideas, tasks, information, etc., because its purpose is to define and constrain alternatives and outcomes. For example, party planning becomes a lot less cumbersome when there is a high level of organization and clarity as to what to do, who will do it, when to do it, and more. Another example is car shopping. With the amount of data available on cars, their features, auto loans, etc., a decision tree would make it easier and faster to make an optimal choice.
-
A decision tree can be helpful in many business situations, as well as many real-life situations. An example of a real-life situation can be trying to find a new place to live after college. There are many factors involved such as housing costs, cost of living, crime rates, school reputations, weather, job availability, etc. that can play a role in whether you decide to live somewhere or not.
-
Decision trees and business rules are used in my job on a daily basis. Specifically one of my responsibilities is to create bills for clients based multiple factors. First factor would be is the billing arrangement a fixed fee, or hourly. Then each fixed fee or hourly arrangement can have a multitude of other factors that affect the creation of the bill. Business rules affect the decisions on the decision tree with things like how much we can expense per meal to each client and how much we can charge for auto transportation (mileage compensation rate).
-
Another way we could use a decision is when you’re trying to buy a car and you’re having a hard time picking between which one to get. By using a decision you can break each car down and what they have or don’t have. When you’ve successfully completed the decision tree you can have a better understanding of what car you want.
-
Using a decision tree could be very useful when choosing which health insurance coverage you want to choose when accepting a new job offer. Breaking down the various options based on price and, frequency of use, and total coverage would allow you to get the best value for the coverage that you need to feel secure. The decision tree would also be helpful because if you begin a family or get married you can look back and re-rout your decision with the new coverages you would need.
-
Decision trees are helpful in general for most decisions that you may encounter in either your person or professional life. I am currently running a project team that is not only defining processes in systemic ways of working, but also ‘physical’ ways of working. My team is responsible for documenting current processes and identifying any areas of improvement and recommending what those improvements might be.
We use decision trees in this circumstance to help understand if the current and/or standard operating procedures are meeting all of the needs of the business units that are attached to them.
This helps us identify the failure points for any area in the decision trees which might return unfavorable results and for us to judge the proposals appropriately. -
Another area that the tree diagram would be useful in, is in marketing. I think that using the decision tree to help college students to understand what the different marketing concept are and why they work. As an IB marketing major, I think that this tree would have helped my one marketing class last semester since we were learning about the difference in marketing tools around the world. This might have been easier for my professor to use when comparing the differences between the counties. This tree might also be helpful in classes and in life when you have many different choices and its easier to look at an image rather than pages of information.
-
Decision trees are useful is many ways and not just professionally. I do like the example of the Amazon one we discussed in class. Having worked in the restaurant business, I have seen decision trees being used many times. When trying to come up with specials many times it depends on what ingredients are locally available. Especially if dining at a farm to table style restaurant. I feel another area that a decision tree would be helpful with would be a decision of any type, but specifically when buying a house. Having seen my sister just go through the process, she had many deciding factors to decide. How many bedrooms? Is the school district good? Is it close to work? I never would have thought of it before, but having learned about decision trees I could see how it would be perfectly used in this example.
-
In my opinion decision trees could be used in any number of thing throughout your life. One example that I have utilized before was for planning a vacation. The decision trees let you see the different outcomes based on whether one thing does or does not happen. This was helpful planning the vacation because there were fore people going and many different places and airlines we could utilize and the decision trees helps show all of it. Another place decision trees would be helpful is in school. They could help in budgeting, selecting classes or in the classes themselves. For example, marketing (my major) which has many decisions on all the different aspects that go into marketing. Advertising, for example involves many questions like when, where, how long, how much, and a decision tree would help to stream line the answers and how they affect each other.
-
Decision trees can be used in many ways outside of business purposes. Other than in information systems, decision trees can be used to decide whether or not to buy a new car. You have to decide if you first need a new car, then what type of car, what kind of gas milage, color, and whether you can afford it. Many more decisions need to be made throughout the process that can each depend on the answer to the question that comes before it. Decision trees can be, and often are used in all kinds of different situations, not just in information systems.
-
In my opinion a decision tree can be used in any job situation. Any job that has more than one outcome usually has more than one choice involved. A decision tree helps organize the thought process and makes any line of work smoother. Engineers can use this method in order to narrow down a problem and fix it. But the decision tree that most are familiar with are from menus. in the current day we have establishments such as Wawa that has a decision tree type of kiosk that starts off vague with drinks and different food options, narrowing down the choices with every selection.
-
Decision trees are useful tools that guide us on a path when making a decision. The decision being made doesn’t have to be a complex, life changing decision, rather it could be used for any day-to-day question. I would say, outside of information systems, a decision tree would be very helpful when choosing a new job. Say, for example, you apply to 5 or 6 different companies for a job. Out of those 6, you hear back from 2 of them, offering you a position. This is where the decision tree comes in handy. It will help narrow your search for a job based on your highest valued qualities. You might say if the salary is greater than or equal to x amount then you will choose that job, as well as add in other important factors like location, position offered, company, vacation time and so on. All in all, decision trees can be used in many forms other than just for information systems.
-
A decision tree is not only useful in the business work from an IT perspective but also other facets of the business world. Some examples include, following a certain protocol, such as filling out forms. I know one of my friends who is an intern has a decision tree that he must go through when talking to a customer on the phone.
-
Last class taught me that decision trees can be extremely useful in information systems. While they are useful in IS they can also be used for basically any decision you must make in your everyday life. For example just today I was in a situation in which I could have taken the time to make a decision tree. The situation was I had to decide which shipping company to use, UPS, USPS, or FEDEX. I could have easily taken the time to create a specific decision tree but I just decided to go with the company with a branch closest to my house.
-
I could see business trees being useful in a variety of other situations, such as in my old job as a manager at a hostel. When I trained new housekeepers, a tree would have eliminated the need for so many questions or mistakes. For example, replacing certain items or cleaning certain surfaces were reserved for specific days or as needed, depending on the circumstance. More specifically, laundry always came with questions, such as frequency, differences by seasons, hot or cold water, bleach or no bleach, etc.
-
Decision trees can be useful for my personal and professional situations because I can map out all the possible choices I have and what the outcome will be when making the decision. This is useful when deciding if to stay in on a Friday night to study or to go out with your friends. Decision trees are great for visually understanding what the consequences are or the outcome of the decision. Decision trees can be useful for almost everything. Decision making process is important and using a decision tree will help make the decisions easier.
-
Beside using a decision tree in information systems, a decision tree could be used in the medical field to decide on certain courses of treatment and medical processes. Also me being a Legal Studies major and International Business minor, I could also see a decision tree being helpful in making decisions about courses of action entering certain foreign markets, legal disputes, and various other business decisions and processes. Overall, we have learned that a decision tree can be used in many professional areas as well as personal areas of our lives. It simply maps out decisions and processes to make things easier to see, interpret, process, and implement.
-
Decision trees can be used in not only business but any situation or any career. For doctors, it can be used as a form of deduction when figuring out a sickness that a patient may or may not have. Although it’s generally associated with business rules, the decision tree is a method that can problem solve almost any conflict. It can also be useful in computer programming because programming focuses on turning inputs to outputs. With the decision tree one can take an input and run it by many conditions to create an outcome based on the conditions given with the input.
-
Decision trees are not only an important part of information systems but can help you make decisions throughout your daily life within a number of different job areas,. Decision trees can help in pretty much any complex decision making that is needed. It can help with customer service over the phone for example in how to interact with the potential customer
-
I think decision trees can use in many ways in our life. Foe example, when we wanted to order some food in cellphone. We will choose an APP at first. Then we choose one of a lot of resturants. Thirdly we will choose some dishes to order. At last there are some opitions for us to choose for the taste.

Of the many facts stated throughout the video, one in particular that I found very interesting was that 25% of China’s population with the highest IQs, is greater than the total population of North America. I find that interesting because the difference in population between these two countries is so drastic that just 25% of Chinas population with high IQ’s, can overcome the entire population in the United States. This fact really emphasizes the variance of population density in China compared to other less populated countries, even the United States. There are many skills that are essential for success in the workplace, but hard work, perseverance, integrity, creativity, good communication and analytical skills, the ability to multi-task and a general comfort with technology are all some of the essential skills necessary for success in the digital economy.
-
All of the facts presented in this video were really interesting and intriguing, but the one that I found the most interesting was that 1 in 6 couples married last year met online. As a current/future business leader, skills that are essential for being successful in the digital economy is being able to use platforms and manage these platforms digitally. By using platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, etc.) a business leader can choose to target a certain audience and link their own platform in with the other platforms. Example: Tinder allows a user to link up their Facebook profile to help manage their dating profile. By utilizing what is already there and available, this teamwork mentality allows for the success of this particular dating platform, if we chose to tie it in with the interesting face in the video that I found so interesting.
-
It’s pretty crazy that there over 1,000 people like me in other countries and even in the United States. China definitely has an advantage since there are a bunch of more people there than there is in the United States so that’s why they have an advantage over us. Social media accounts are essential for having a digital economy because everyone uses sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Pinterest etc. Navigating sites like these are essential skills in getting an advantage over other competitors. These social media accounts provide growth and feedback from their customers to see what a company can do to improve. For example, Nordstrom uses Foursquare where customers can check in and if a certain amount of customers check in then Nordstrom gives them promotions in which they can use to buy anything in the store. Nordstrom makes all there sales from using methods like these.
-
What struck me most interesting in this video is the fact that 10 years ago all the top in-demand jobs barely even existed. Now all the jobs that are in-demand require knowledge of technology. We don’t think about how important technology has become to our everyday life. The way we communicate, work, share information, date, ect. People are no longer writing personalize letter. We can send a quick E-mail and the messages will be received within seconds. Social media has allowed us to read and share news at the click of a button. Technology has become an essential part of all our lives and as future business leaders we have to keep up with the ever-changing trends. Take advantage of opportunities to learn new technology. In order to succeed you have to be proactive in this digital world we live in.
-
In my personal opinion, I believe that the most interesting fact that was presented was that only 34 years after the first mobile phone call took place, Apple launched the very first iPhone. This fact shows how quickly technology is constantly changing and improving. It has now been almost 44 years since the very first phone call took place and over 2 billion people are currently using smartphones.
The ability to adapt to new technology is a vital tool that we as future business leaders needs to acquire because of the rapid rate that new and better technological products are being produced. -
A fact that stood out to me was that a weeks worth of the New York Times contains more information than a person from the 18th century would be exposed to in a lifetime. This fact goes to show how significant the information age has become in the world we live in today. It has never been easier to access information from a variety of different sources and media outlets, especially with how impactful and widespread technology has become.
In todays current economy it is essential for business people to be technologically savvy as well as being up to date on new products and services that are being created every day. Keeping up with the fast-paced business world is key for people who want to succeed in todays digital economy. -
What I found most interesting about the video was that by 2020 there will be 75 billion devices that will be connected to the internet. I also thought it was interesting that China and India have more honors children than we have children in the US.
What I think will be import to as a future business leader to understand that, right now we aren’t able to market to everyone around the world, but that in three years there will be 75 billion devices connected to the internet that means we can have the ability to sell to people in the next few years. -
The fact most attract me is: “1 out of 6 couples married in the U.S. last year met online”. The Internet almost connects you to all the countries all over the world. The only thing you need to do is sitting in front of your desktop or laptop, or just use your smartphone to make a new friend from thousands and thousands of miles away. “10 million self-Driving cars will be on the road by 2020” which also indicate that technology will cause people getting lazy and lazy. Like one science fiction mentioned, the human being will become a shape with a bigger head, smaller body and shorter limbs in the future. This evolve will become true.
-
One fact that I found the most interesting was that 1 in 6 couples married last year met online. As a future businessman, skills that are essential for being successful in the digital economy is being able to use platforms and manage these platforms digitally. The Internet has advanced at such a rapid pace that we can talk, see and experience news and people from around the world anytime and anywhere we want. The only thing you need to do is operate a smartphone or a desktop, to interact and draw attention from individuals. Being tech-savvy would make you a great asset to your future employers as technology has been known to help businesses save money and work more efficiently.
-
The fact that I find very fascinating is that half of what students learn in their first year of a college degree will be outdated by their third year of study. This fact shows how quickly everything changes and how significant the information age has become in the world we live today. The digital economy is one of the most dynamic fields. For a future business leader, continuous learning is an essential skill. The fact that what we learned gets outdated so quickly shows that we need to constantly educate ourselves to be efficient and productive. Predictions that by 2049 a $1,000 computer will exceed the computation capabilities of the entire human species is just unbelievable.
-
I found all the data information in this video interesting and worth noting. We are aware that foreign countries such as India and China are advancing at a much faster rate than America. Importance is placed in education and technology, which are the main means to success and advancement. Date can provide useful information to not only business majors but also consumers in general. Businesses can use data to create products and/or build foreign plants for profits and to build loyal customers.
-
The most interesting fact from the video was that by the year 2050 our population is projected to reach 10 billion compared to the 7.3 billion people that we are currently at right now. This means there will be an abundance of consumers that will need to be targeted. Addressing those needs will need to be done in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. Data mining and analytics is the best way to do this, meaning the demand for business minded data analysts and architects will only increase.
-
The fact that I found the most interesting was that 25% of China’s highest IQ is more than the entire of population of North America. The video eventually deduced this fact to, all of China’s honor students are more the amount of kids in North America. I find this interesting because it really puts into perspective how important it is to be competitive, especially in a global market with so many competitors on the table now. Skills that I find to be important in the digital economy is adaptability and work ethic. Adaptability because in the digital economy, things are changing all of the time so you need to be to adapt to these constant changes. And work ethic because I feel that someone needs to set themselves apart from everyone else and this is through work ethic.
-
In my opinion, the fact that I found most interesting in this video is that we’ve four generations who grew up with different communicating ways working side by side. It is amazing as the elder generations have to have high adapting skills and also a fast learner to stay up to date with the constant growth and improvement of programs that improve the productivity of the business. As current or future business leaders, the skills that I think are essential for success in the digital economy is being open minded to learn and accept the new technologies.
-
Like many others have already stated, there are numerous interesting facts. I picked one that pertained to me pretty closely. 1 out of 6 couples married in the US last year met online. I met my fiance online and it really makes me think that Information Systems are only growing in importance. Based on information that my fiance and I “put out there” on a dating website we were matched. Somehow, somewhere for some weird reason the things we like to do brought us together…because of Information Systems. I would really like to know the algorithms that went into that. It makes my think that there are some crazy Google Analytics like technologies for match.com that brought us together. Again, numerous interesting facts in that clip.
-
I think the most interesting fact was that “Predictions are that by 2049 a $1,000 computer will exceed the computation capabilities of the entire human species”. I believe that development in technology will have a large impact on the global workforce (especially in with the progression of artificial intelligence). As an accounting major I have an interest of the effect technology will have with tracking business information and data.
-
I found the facts posted in the video to all be relevant and intregeing. One that stands out is the education received in year 1 will be outdated by year 3. It confirms the notion that we need to always be learning and looking for ways to improve. Data helps us do exactly this exactly… learn and improve. The collection of data in some ways is like history. “Those who don’t learn it are doomed to repeat it.” Companies today are data driven. Success is based on metrics or the story the data is telling. This is the basis for ERP, CRM, and SCM systems. These systems add great value to organizations.
-
I thought the most interesting fact was that a week’s worth of NY Times contains more information than an 18th century person would come across in his or her lifetime. I find this fact to be interesting because it tells me that our generation is in a position to utilize this information to create even more advances, while at the same time, to a certain extent, explaining why our attention span is in fact decreasing (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016/03/12/humans-have-shorter-attention-span-than-goldfish-thanks-to-smart/). I think adaptability, flexibility, and creativity will be essential for success in the digital economy, as new technologies and information will without a doubt reshape our reality at a faster pace than ever before.
-
The fact that interested me the most was that “today’s learner will have 10-14 jobs by the age of 38”. I find this interesting because it is understandable that at a young age you may bounce from job to job. However, it seems that people in the previous generations only changed jobs a very few times once they found a career. I think this shows that with a more technologically advance society there is more variety and opportunity for workers. For a business leader to be successful in a digital economy the most important skills are having good communication, being able to adapt, and to understand or be willing to learn the modern technology. Technology is constantly changing and I know many older people who simply don’t want to keep up with it, leaving them at a huge disadvantage business wise.
-
I was shocked when I saw this video because some facts are reflected in the data. The population of world is rising so fast in these years ,and people is the most important resource of a country because people create all of things in our life. In addition, I was surprised about how quickly the technology is developing in the world. For example, We know more than 2 billion people have a smartphone now, and 10 million self-drive cars will be on the road by 2020.
-
Today is a informantion wxplode age. There are a lot of new things created by human. The amount of new technical information is doubling every 2 years. In other word, everyone can’t stop learn new things every day. But there is also a problem, too much things for us to learn. So we need to select the most useful and important thing. Every one is a normal people, even you are one of a million, there are still 7 thousand people just like you. So we should keep learning and impove ourself in every minutes.
-
The fact that shocked me the most was that half of what students learn in the first year of a four year college degree would be outdated by their third year of study. This makes me wonder why I should pursue a degree if the information that I’m learning will be useless in a few years. I believe that the four year college model has become outdated, and this statistic supports that. It also doesn’t make sense to me why people have to take classes in all sorts of departments that don’t align with a student’s major or career path. It would make more sense for a student to apply for internships in the field in which he or she is interested in so the student can learn technical skills specific to that industry. Instead, the modern student is forced to face a conglomerate of debt inducing electives and gen eds that do not further a student’s technical or interpersonal skills whatsoever.
-
The fact that stood out to me was that technological advances double every two years. I knew that when it came to technical information that it was always on the rise but not that fast. The fact that half of the information we learned in the first two years of college will be outdated by our third year. What everyone should take away from this video is that and the fact that we need to take initiative to keep ourselves up to date when it comes to current events. For example so much information can come from something such as the news paper, as well as online resources that previous generations weren’t open to. Instead of sitting back and letting the times change, change with the times.
-
Although there were many interesting facts in this video, the one I found most interesting is that we are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t exist yet, to use technologies that haven’t been invented yet, and to solve problems that are not yet problems. It is amazing how we can predict what is going to happen in the near future and say that we will be prepared to solve problems that we don’t know are problems yet. Not long ago, this kind of thinking did not exist. To be successful in the digital economy, one needs to be highly technologically skilled. Technology is taking over businesses and is only getting more advanced. Along with this, I think adaptability is another important skill to have. As I said before, technology is becoming more and more advanced and one needs to be able to adapt to different technologies, programs, and environments in order to be successful.
-
The fact that I found most interesting was about the differences in population growth rates in the United States vs. China and India. The fact that they have more honor students than we have students. Despite this, most people in the US still are under the illusion of being the number one economy in the world. Over the next few decades there will be massive effects from the growth rates in the populations as well as the economies of these countries and the United States will dwarf china and India in comparison. The key will be finding environmental and economically sustainable solutions to support that many new high impact consumers in the coming years.
-
Everything in this word is always changing especially technology, population, and medicine. The fact that I found most interesting is how technology is changing constantly and if it is not kept up with, one will fall behind and lose the ability of the connection they once had with technology. Also, technology can literally be the access to find whatever you are looking for and there are solutions to problems that are more faster and efficient. As a future business leader, the skills that I think are essential for success in the digital economy is keeping up with the change and learning new ideas and skills that will further my knowledge to be a successful in business.
-
The fact that I found most interesting was that for students who are starting a 4 year college degree half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study. This shows how fast technology is changing and how much more new information is coming about each year. A way for students like myself to combat this issue is to keep studying and reading even when we finish our degree of choice. Luckily, as a student at Temple University, I am offered many different ways to learn new things and receive various certifications through tuportal. It’s extremely important for people to keep up to date on new technology and to stay informed with what’s going on in the world. In order to be successful in business, individuals must use the resources offered at Temple or their university and also read; professional articles, magazines, and newspapers.
-
The fact I found most interesting in this video was how school systems and universities are currently preparing their students for jobs that do not yet exist. I found this interesting because this era may be the first in history with unknown job outlooks for the future. The innovation of technology is still so unknown that we cannot specifically prepare our younger individuals for workforce jobs. This is why technological skills are imperative for success in the digital economy. All generations need to be preparing for the future by learning new technologies. It is inevitable that technology is the future and that is the most important skill to master right now.
-
Throughout this video there are multiple facts in which I almost could not believe. The part I thought was most interesting was the section about just how big Facebook truly is. The first fact about Facebook is that there are 1.55 billion daily users. That is incredible and it shows just how useful Facebook can be when you need to network or get in touch with individuals. The video went on to say if Facebook were a country it would be the largest in the entire world. It would be bigger than China, India, and the US which was mind-blowing for me. Facebook now has 4.5 billion likes per day, which is over a trillion like per year! Facebook has accomplished all this in only 13 years, it was started in 2004. To me these facts show just how the world is truly turning into a technology based community.
-
What surprised me the most was the fact that stated the “the amount of technical information is doubling every 2 years.” The amount of cumulative change will eventually be unsurmountable for a student completing her bachelors degree. The hasty development of the industry will require new professionals and thinkers to maintain a balanced workforce. As a business student we always have to adapt and learn new things to keep up to date to further my knowledge and be successful in the business environment.
-
The video and all the facts listed were very interesting. The fact the 1 in 6 couples married last year met online was not surprising, but very interesting. I remember being told not to meet people from online. Now it is normal to meet people from online. Even our classes are given online. Technology is quickly evolving and the information that we are able to receive at our fingertips. While I didn’t meet a spouse online I have met very many good friends that I have been friends with for years since, The internet and online social media platforms such as Facebook connect billions of people daily. What is surprising is that the video says that we should have about 10 million self driving cars on the road by 2020. We are now halfway through 2017. While I think it is a possibility, I would be very surprised to see that many self driving cars on the road in less than 3 years. While we have seen technology do many things, that would surprise me.
-
I felt the most interesting part of the video would be showing the age demographic all are working together, but communicating in various ways. This can potentially become an obstacle due to how quickly technology is changing, causing different communication techniques done by different age groups. Employers should be looking at how quickly a candidate can adapt to the fast-changing technology we have in place today.
