I wrote a paper on Artificial Intelligence(AI) describing and giving insight into weak AI and strong AI. I also gave a brief background on the origins of AI and how AI developed over history. I also described and gave examples of how AI is being used and implemented into tech today. I used various credible sources as references, which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of AI and what it can do, and what it is capable of. Finally, I used the knowledge that I gained in Data and Analytics to compare AI to the use of R. In this comparison, I spoke on how R can make predictions and meaning for a data set.

MIS 2502 – Extra Credit

In this assignment, I was able to gather a better understanding of Big Data and how much it is really is used. I was also able to relate it to many things we have learned about in class to grasp a better understanding of why we are learning about these specific platforms.

 

MIS 2502 Extra Credit Assignment

In the following assignment, I was assigned to research a list of topics on Data Analytics that are not covered in class. The topic that I chose was cloud computing.

After doing my research on the topic, I briefly discussed what cloud computing is and how it is important. I then went on to relate it back to the topic of Extract Transform

and Load (ETL), which was taught in the course. I wrapped up the assignment by showing an example of how AWS does cloud-based ETL through their service AWS Glue.

 

Data & Analytics Short Paper

This short paper made me further research a certain topic we covered in MIS2502 that did not spark my interest initially. After learning more extensive information outside of the classroom, I got a better understanding of how NoSQL fits into this course and how beneficial it was to be able to get a hands-on approach to extracting data. This project helped me narrow my focus on just one concept that led me to better piece together the information architecture of an organization.

DeSandre Sentiment Analysis Extra Credit

 

This is an Extra Credit Research Assignment for my MIS 2502 class with Hyeonsik Shin. In this project, I researched Sentiment Analysis technology and how it is important to Data Analytics and in particular, Advanced Analytics. The goal of this project was to provide a comprehensive description of the technology as well as demonstrate how it works in practice through research. This project was helped me learn about how and why Sentiment Analysis is used in Data Analytics. This learning has increased my breadth of knowledge as both an MIS student and an MIS professional.

1. The purpose of this assignment was to give an outlet to display my ability to understand and describe an aspect of data analytics to my current and future employers. I briefly described what Artificial Intelligence is and how it relates to what I have learned in MIS2502.

The Role of Data and Analytics in Leveraging Artificial Intelligence is the essay written by me, Angelica Pinon, for extra credit in MIS2502, discussing the importance of data and analytics in the development and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). My goal while writing this essay was to emphasize the complexity and sub-fields of Artificial Intelligence. AI is most often misunderstood and misinterpreted as just \’sentient\’ technology, such as robots, that are able to accomplish human-like tasks independently. However, it requires a deeper understanding of computer science, statistics, data modeling, etc. – all of which we\’ve delved into moderately.

1. Introducing big data analytics and how does it help with organizations in making decisions

Description:

Through this class project, I aimed to explore an aspect of Management Information Systems/Data Analysis that resonated with my interests and career goals. As a Marketing/MIS double major, I expressed interest in Sentiment Analysis, a process used to analyze textual data such as customer reviews and employee feedback forms, and its other business applications. The practical example of Nike’s brand monitoring following the Colin Kaepernick controversy contributed to my understanding of how sentiment analysis could be used to benefit even the most triumphant companies. The results of the data provided by Nike suggested that analyzing a dataset (in this case, customer sentiments on social media sites like Twitter) holistically proves to be more beneficial than focusing on the extremes of the data. In relation to the content covered in MIS 2502, Sentiment Analysis serves as an example of text-based analysis/text-mining, which is important considering the fact that much of the data found on the internet/social media is unstructured and numerous. In the end, the project helped me develop a more extensive understanding of Sentiment Analysis and its importance in relevant fields.
