- Goals: I had to write a report on a subject that connects with what I learned in MIS 2502 (i.e. big data, AI, cloud computing, etc.) I explained how cloud computing connects with the various topics we covered in MIS 2502.
- Results: I delivered a ~3 paragraph high-level overview of what cloud computing is, where it will be, and how it connects to data analytics and everyday tasks we completed in MIS 2502.
- What I Learned: I learned that cloud computing is the delivery of computing services with the purpose of offering more efficient innovation and processes, flexible resources, and economies of scale. Services within cloud computing include databases, networking, software, storage, servers, analytics, and intelligence. It will only continue to become more and more prevalent as society advances technologically.

MIS2502: Research Paper
The goal of this project was to research a topic not covered in class and relate it to what we learned in class. I decided to write my Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) paper because of my interest in that topic. The paper briefly explains what A.I. is, what it is used for, and how A.I. can be used to invade our privacy. I gave an example of the Chinese government invading the privacy of their Uyghur citizens by identifying their emotions via A.I. security systems. I learned how Uyghur citizens are being deprived of their privacy. This is done by giving DNA samples routinely to local officials, being detained for not carrying their mobile device, and by placing QR codes outside of homes to see if someone belongs there or not.

Cyberbullying Prevention Through Natural Language Processing
In my MIS 2502 course, I crafted a brief research report on cyberbullying prevention through Natural Language Processing (NPL). I explored the methods of using NPL to detect cyberbullying, primarily through two crucial steps: (1) Representation learning for Internet messages and (2) Classification. I found that many online platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube have begun utilizing AI and NPL to detect and eliminate bullying and harassment. Research Topic/Artificial Intelligence
This assignment was to pick a research topic within Data Analytics that was not covered in class during the semester. In this assignment, I had to research my topic which was Artificial Intelligence and then relate it to the coursework within Data Analytics. I found my topic to be extremely interesting because it is something that is continuing to evolve and thrive in today’s technology. While researching about AI, I learned that these programs and machines are built to think and act like humans but in a way that it is beneficial because the outcomes and predictions of data analysis are more credible and accurate. I related the topic of Artificial Intelligence to the coursework in Data Analytics because AI machines and programs can be used to analyze data, which something that we learned and practiced a lot using applications such as MongoDB and Rstudio. An example of Artificial Intelligence that is used with Data Analytics is the Google Analytics application which allows a user to track and monitor the amount of times people follow a link or click on their page. I found this assignment to be useful and beneficial because I got to learn about a new topic and research more about Data Analytics and how it is changing technology in today’s society.
NoSQL Databases
For this project, I choose the topic of NoSQL Databases. The objective of the project was to learn about a topic that was not covered in class. The goal was also to enhance the knowledge about the topic and refer to it in the future. During this project, I came across so much information which I found really helpful. There was some information about the topic which I never knew about at all. I believe that this topic has made me realize that I need to actively research topics not covered in class and grow my knowledge about them even more in order to be more aware about these topics. I learned how NoSQL Databases can be used in the workplaces today. Many big companies use NoSQL Databases for their daily operations. I also learned about this topic relates so much to things we have covered in class. I was able to learn even more about NoSQL than what I learned in MIS 2502. I believe that everything I learned about NoSQL Databases will be very helpful when I start working/interning as a Data Analyst in the future. Attached below is my project.
Extra Credit and Pro Points
The goal of this project was to give more insight into the job field of MIS and how it directly related to the MIS 2502 class. When completing this project, I discovered that NoSQL is a tool that is largely used within the information systems world.

Artificial intelligence has been a new and revolutionary technology to be utilized in many growing aspects of science, among other things. Artificial intelligence is the intelligence and emotions portrayed by human beings, but rather coming from the use of machines. Artificial intelligence allows tasks to be completed that require human intelligence, but with no human present. These human interactions that are altered portray human vision, speech, decision making, and language translation as well. This speeds up many processes, doing what a human can do but at a much faster efficiency rate. The essential purpose of artificial systems is to not only increase the speed of things being done, but also do it better than humans. Artificial intelligence also improves the precision of human tasks as this basically eliminates all human error.
Artificial intelligence is essential for helping companies with their data and analytics issues. CEO of SAS, Jim Goodnight, states “AI techniques can be used to identify which transactions are likely to be fraudulent, adopt fast and accurate credit scoring, as well as automate manually intense data management tasks.” For card companies for example, artificial intelligence can be used to monitor what a customer buys, or what people with different characteristics are likely to buy. Once this information is gathered and grouped together through the system, the company can then analyze it through data visualization and increase their companies profits and revenue. All of the databases that were searched through writing code in this class, would have been able to be completed through artificial intelligence. Not only would it be able to analyze quickly, but would also be able to look though many at once, no matter the size.
One of the most common uses of artificial intelligence is Amazon’s use for it to display suggested products that people are likely to buy. Artificial intelligence creates an algorithm to decide what you may be interested in based on your past purchases, further trying to increase profit.
Penetration Test with Mitigation Report
- The goals of this project was to perform a penetration test on a fake company’s server (Humbleify). After finding the vulnerabilities and exploits we were to describe mitigation techniques. The project gave me a grasp of using Kali Linux and the Google Cloud Platform, and how many opportunities hackers have if an organization doesn’t have mitigation techniques in place.

Social Network Analysis
The purpose of this project was to learn about a topic on Data Analytics that was not taught during our 2502 course. We were then asked to research a topic that fell under this category, and I chose to research Social network analysis. After concluding my research, I learned that Social network analysis focuses on network behavior to understand a group’s strengths, weaknesses, and relationships. It can be applied in team-building activities to get a closer look at relationships between groups of people that were hidden before. At first, I thought this was a brand new topic for me, but I quickly learned that a lot of the mapping used in SNA is similar to Cluster Analysis that we have learned this semester. Overall, it was interesting to see a broad topic like Clustering build into something like Social network analysis.
