- The goal of this project was to find and utilize an API, either for practical or entertainment purposes. I chose to use an API for entertainment purposes. If a person wants some random Chuck Norris jokes, they can use my project to generate the jokes in a list format. What I learned from this project was that for some API\’s, it\’s is necessary to concatenate the URL in the post method, rather than sending serialized data.

MIS 2402: Currency Converter API
The API found at https://www.currencyconverterapi.com/ could facilitate factory managers of international companies in understanding corporate requirements outlined in a foreign currency. For example, imagine a company headquartered in the United States, with production plants in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. If this company released a memo requiring all factories to increase their minimum wage by $2 USD and decrease annual overhead costs by $1M USD, a manager native to Mexico or Canada may not be aware of the conversion rate to their respective currency. That manager could then use an application using the Currency Converter API to convert corporate requirements from US Dollars to Mexican Pesos or Canadian Dollars.

MIS 2402 Web API Proof of Concept
The goal of this project was to demonstrate how an API can be used. In order to do so, I used Javascript to create a page that displays dinosaur species that have been discovered relatively near the user’s location using the Google Geolocation and GeoCoding API as well as the Paleobiology Database API. My page ended up doing exactly this though it could use some adjusting. The address that is displayed is not perfectly accurate to the user’s location and the area created to find dinosaurs within varies in distance, since the measures are in latitude and longitude. While it still needs work, I think the project perfectly displays my proof of concept for a program that can identify dinosaurs nearby based on a user’s location.

What I Learned –
During this assignment, I was able to learn about new technology that relates to data. It was great to learn about NoSQL and how it is currently being implemented in the industry.
MIS2502: Data Analytics Pro Points Assignment
- For this class project I researched Big Data. The concept of Big Data is extremely relevant to MIS2502. The assignment can be viewed at: http://community.mis.temple.edu/shorgan/coursework/mis2502-big-data/
Big Data
This project goes in depth about big data and how companies utilize it to find insights on how to improve their business.
Cloud Based Analytics
This projects over the topic of cloud based analytics. It describes a set of technological and analytical tools and techniques specifically designed to help clients extract information from massive data(Wikipedia, 2018) and how this technique is used in our class. It has given us a skills to use like Tableau and Tableau Prep which is demanded in the job market nowadays.
Internet of Things (IoT)
I wrote a short write-up on Internet of Things (IoT) that gives a brief explanation of what it is, what it does, few examples where IoT is being used and how it is connected to MIS 2502. The following is the link to my page:
