@tug66181 Hey Mya, I noticed we are both sophomore MIS majors interested in social media! What made you chose MIS/ how do you think you could incorporate social media into your future career?

Hi Erin! I choose MIS because it fascinates me. Information Systems are meant to make life easier by automating tasks which would have been done manually, thereby saving time and resources. To me, that’s the real thing that makes me really interested in Management Information Systems, and anything that has to do with computers in general! I b…[Read more]

The ability to learn how to use Tableau was an important takeaway from this class. Tableau is a powerful tool that is helpful in the data science world. This class consisted of learning how to sort, clean, and look for patterns within datasets. It was interesting learning how to interpret the data and use it to answer the questions being asked.…[Read more]

One data driven service I use is Amazon. A row would be the product I have ordered. The columns would be the cost of the order, the date it was ordered, the date it was shipped, the date it was received, and a review of the product.

The biggest challenge my group encountered while working on Assignment 4 was creating the visualization portion of the project. Creating the graphs also posed a challenge however once we figured out what data sets we wanted to use, the graphs were made. Once we started crafting the infographic it was challenging making the graphs look pleasing. We…[Read more]

A KPI I use in my everyday life would be my Fitbit Alta HR. The Fitbit tracks my sleep patterns, which I can then go through and examine via my Fitbit app. While setting up my Fitbit I entered the desired number of hours of sleep I want to get per night. This feature is specific because it tracks when I fell asleep, when I was awake during the…[Read more]

I do not have much experience in sorting data. However after reading “Stupid Data Corruption Tricks,” I think the most important mistake to avoid would be “Clicking “yes” without carefully evaluating the message that says “do you want to remove this from the server?” This could happen within seconds just because you were in a rush and did not read…[Read more]

I think the most important principle from the Hoven article is to “simplify” the data. When the data is confusing and difficult to understand it is important to simplify it and make it visually appealing. For someone that does not understand technically advanced language, it is easier and less intimidating for them to look at a simple graph and…[Read more]

The most important takeaway from Serdar Celebi’s presentation this past Friday was how much data the company uses. The Turkish airline has access to data from other airlines as well. It was interesting how the airline compares their data to other airlines and makes decisions based off of data comparison. It was also interesting to learn how e…[Read more]

http://how-to-fix-a-toilet.com
I found this article interesting because it collected data form people’s most searched “How To’s” on the internet, based on their location. The data provided information as to what people needed to know how to do, topping the list was “how to fix a toilet”, and “how to tie a tie.” The data was gathered throughout…[Read more] -

A piece of conventional wisdom one could test would be the youngest sibling of a family or the “baby” getting everything he or she wants. It is a common theme amongst families that the youngest child can get away with anything just because they are the baby. One can test this by surveying the oldest, middle, and youngest sibling in families.…[Read more]
