Edge Computing Essay

 

For this project, the goal was to gain additional experience and knowledge of project or product management through a LinkedIn learning course. The course I completed focused on Learning Design Thinking by Leading Change in an organization.

From the course I learned about several great ways of thinking, important skills to maximize, and the usefulness of many different design thinking tools related to making changes in an organization. From human-centered design, to how data travels through an organization, to lo-fi prototyping, the course opened me up to a number of terms and processes that are truly useful when it comes to effectively collaborating in teams to bring about change through an idea. Not only this, the skills and processes I learned can also be applied to my personal life when I create any new personal goals or ideas to achieve.

This class project introduced us to a few LinkedIn Learning videos to watch. Two of the videos that I watched are titled: “Learning Design Thinking: Lead Change in Your Organization” and “Microsoft Project 2016 Essential Training.” The goal of this class project was to learn more material that will help us in our future endeavors. Some of the information that I learned from watching these videos are setting up project components such as work tasks, summary tasks, milestones, and recurring tasks. Additionally, I managed to learn some tips on how to be a good leader in design. Lastly, I received advice on a few topics, from setting goals to engaging the different skill sets and personalities in the room.

I learned a lot from completing “Microsoft Project 2016 Essential Training”. It taught me all about using Microsoft as a project management tool. This hands-on tutorial helped me learn the ins and outs of how to use Microsoft as a tool when planning projects. This will help in my future project management endeavors.

After completing “Learning Design Thinking: Lead Change in Your Organization” I learned how to lead change through design thinking. First, I learned the design thinking mindset and the 6 characteristics along with it. Continuous improvement and innovation are at the forefront of leading change through design thinking. The next chapters were all about how to lead and align a team with your shared goal and how to collaborate effectively. The last chapter highlights strategies and the importance of prototyping.

 

By completing AWS Cloud Foundations I learned the basic services AWS provides as well as beginning to learn how to deploy these services with things like Storing Information in Buckets, creating VPCS with subnets and security groups, deploying API’s to websites I created and using AWS Lambda to run certain events with code to help make websites function as optimally as possible.

Microsoft Project Essential training – CertificateOfCompletion_Microsoft Project 2016 Essential Training

• This course taught me everything I needed to know about working with Excel and showed me how to use Excel as a project management tool, which is something I wouldn’t think to do on Excel. The beginning of the course outlined the starting steps of how to create a project on Excel as well as setting up different tasks, resources, and display options. One section that I found particularly helpful would be sections 8 – 10 which show, in my opinion, the more complicated aspects of managing a project aside from the little things that were shown in the first part of the course. The videos in these sections showed how to edit and save baselines, assign overtime, delay or dead a task, review scheduling conflicts, and so many other features that I would never know are possible when using Excel.

Leading Change – CertificateOfCompletion_Learning Design Thinking Lead Change in Your Organization

• From what I learned, design thinking is a problem-solving process rooted in empathy and is focused on the user with an emphasis on making a team’s ideas tangible to produce the best result possible for the user. Leading this way of thinking seems to be the most complicated aspect of this course since it’s not rooted in the typical way of completing a project. Because of this, the course gives the viewer a heads-up on some issues that they may run into such as the need to have set steps, overcontrol of the team leader, dealing with ambiguity, and exhaustion, and provides solutions to combat them. The last two sections focus on collaboration and prototyping with the course teaching different collaboration techniques including synthesis, journey mapping, and creating a hypothesis to name a few. The prototyping portion stresses the importance of making multiple simple prototypes instead of spending a long amount of time creating a complex one to gain greater specification of the end result through each prototype made.
