The Role of Data and Analytics in Leveraging Artificial Intelligence
The Role of Data and Analytics in Leveraging Artificial Intelligence is the essay written by me, Angelica Pinon, for extra credit in MIS2502, discussing the importance of data and analytics in the development and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). My goal while writing this essay was to emphasize the complexity and sub-fields of Artificial Intelligence. AI is most often misunderstood and misinterpreted as just \’sentient\’ technology, such as robots, that are able to accomplish human-like tasks independently. However, it requires a deeper understanding of computer science, statistics, data modeling, etc. – all of which we\’ve delved into moderately.

Sentiment Analysis Research Paper
MIS2502ExtraCreditAssignment (1)
Description:
Through this class project, I aimed to explore an aspect of Management Information Systems/Data Analysis that resonated with my interests and career goals. As a Marketing/MIS double major, I expressed interest in Sentiment Analysis, a process used to analyze textual data such as customer reviews and employee feedback forms, and its other business applications. The practical example of Nike’s brand monitoring following the Colin Kaepernick controversy contributed to my understanding of how sentiment analysis could be used to benefit even the most triumphant companies. The results of the data provided by Nike suggested that analyzing a dataset (in this case, customer sentiments on social media sites like Twitter) holistically proves to be more beneficial than focusing on the extremes of the data. In relation to the content covered in MIS 2502, Sentiment Analysis serves as an example of text-based analysis/text-mining, which is important considering the fact that much of the data found on the internet/social media is unstructured and numerous. In the end, the project helped me develop a more extensive understanding of Sentiment Analysis and its importance in relevant fields.
Artificial Intelligence Project
The goal of this project was to discover a new topic that was related to my major. As a result, I learned a lot of new and relevant information pertaining to Artificial Intelligence. Extra Credit
Cloud-Based Analytics (Extra Credit)
Researching cloud computing has allowed me to familiarize myself with how cloud-based analytics work but also how they connect to the SQL databases we have been using in class. I was able to gain insight into the functionality of they are utilized in a business setting. I was able to connect the information learned to a future class next semester of cloud architecture. I discuss the importance of cloud computing in terms of stability, flexibility, types of cloud computing, and how it is cost-effective. Lastly, I was able to connect the following information to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and learn the practicality of cloud-based analytics.
MIS2502_Extra_Credit_Assignment
The goal of this assignment was to conduct independent research on a topic related to the Data Analytics class. The class topic I chose for the extra credit assignment was Big Data. As a result, I wrote a one-page research page on Big Data. I was able to analyze the role of Big Data in Data Analytics and MIS. Click here to access the document!
MIS2402_PRO_Points_Project_API
The goal was to use an API to create a single-page application (SPA). I was able to find an inexpensive jokes API on the web. I applied my knowledge from this course to construct working pages that reflected how the API worked. I ended up creating two pages. The first page included a picture and asked, “Do you want to hear a joke.” It also had a button labeled “What’s the joke” when prompted, it led to the second page. The second page displayed the joke from the API. The second page also had two buttons. The first button revealed the punchline, and the second button presented a new joke.
This project helped me to build on my previous knowledge from the In-class assignments. However, it was more hands-on. I had the freedom to chose the API. I was able to create a working SPA without step-by-step instruction. I was successful in implement the .getJSON function and jQuery methods (show and hide). This project helped to enhance my understanding of the Visual Studio Code.

CertificateOfCompletion_Learning Design Thinking Lead Change in Your Organization
Design thinking is a continuous cycle of understanding user needs, challenging existing assumptions, redefining problems based on new knowledge and understanding, and finding more solutions. There are five stages: Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. It is a way of thinking and working, as well as a series of practical methods. It helps me deeply understand target users and build empathy. I can apply what I have learned to solve business problems by using the model.
Web API – Covid Data
This project was about API’s and how we can apply what we learned in class into an actual program. The goal of this project was to use our knowledge of jQuery, loops, conditional statements, and functions to create a summary statistic. In the HTML page I have 5 buttons that are coded to retrieve and calculate data from the API that was given to answer some questions about covid-19.
