Throughout this past semester, I had the pleasure of working with a great team on developing an interactive merchant-customer platform for Vitris. Not only was I able to learn how to stay organized with all the different parts of the project, but my communications skills have definitely improved after countless meetings with my team, the CEO of Vitris, and well as our mentor. It was crucial to meet deadlines and complete/adjust all the deliverables while keeping the critiques in mind from both the CEO and mentor. Additionally, since we were able to work with a real company, I learned quite a bit about the structure and data infrastructure of a business. There are many details that are significant in those structures and could have easily been missed without proper communication between the team and company. Furthermore, we were able to get feedback from Vitris’ customers, and we used those comments and critiques to create features on this platform that would be equally beneficial to merchants and customers. The goal of this project was to display an understanding of the business analysis process through the development of a small prototype for a business process. I completed this assignment through the Justinmind prototyping tool to demonstrate how a shipping and receiving operation could be done more efficiently at a previous job. By doing this project, i cemented my understanding of the use of business analysis techniques to identify business needs and meet them.
LOGCAP MHE Form Prototype
The goal of this project was to create a more efficient method of requesting material handling equipment for service members. Rather than continue using a paper request system, the prototype is designed to recreate the same request form on a consolidated digital platform. This new request system captures all the key data needed for MHE requesting, while eliminating the time investment of hand writing and delivering a paper form. I learned that moving to digital platforms are far more efficient and it benefits every system user to have an easier and more accessible method to to accomplish the same goal.
JustinMind Scheduling
The goal of the project was to create a working prototype that accurately showcased a solution to a current problem within a workspace. I used JustinMind to create this prototype. I also created supporting documentation like a use case, scope document, and an ERD diagram.
No Guess Rx
No Guess Rx was a solution me and my classmates Chris Hummel, Terry Hurst, and Craig Kestechur worked on for our capstone project in our Information Systems Integration class. The goal of No Guess Rx was to develop an application that provided a quick easy way to find the cheapest prescription drugs in a particular area. We wanted to focus this project on helping those who are uninsured by providing them with a way to find the best price.
Through this project, I am learning a lot about what its like to be a part of a real IT project team. Everyone has a different role in the project and everyone has expectations. This is very different from other group projects I have been involved in because in most other group projects there is a sense that this is for school and there are not any consequences to what happens. It has not been this way for us with No Guess Rx, and I believe the biggest reason for that is our mentor Bruce. Bruce holds everyone to a very high but reasonable standard. He asks questions that make us think and forces us to improve, and he makes us want to have the best prototype possible. This experience feels almost like foreshadowing for what lies ahead for all of us in our professional careers.

RateMyApartment Capstone Project
Information Systems Integration, the MIS Capstone, tasked groups of students with developing a digital solution that both solves a business problem and adds value to an organization. The group with which I worked decided to build a platform designed to improve the overall off-campus housing environment as well as help university students be more informed/aware when making housing decisions – an issue with to which our team personally related and observed to have very real, negative impacts; it was apparent that the current system posed a business problem for institutions such as Temple University, and our group felt passionately that an effective solution existed. What we came up with is RateMyApartment, a place where students can share and review valuable insight regarding the critical housing factors of individual residences/property managers – RateMyApartment’s main site can be found here.
What I learned most during this project was the importance of being able to clearly measure and argue business value to a proposed project – a task that challenged our group the most. While we felt confident in the platform’s value-proposition, justifying an estimate of any measurable financial impact the solution might have was difficult. This is because the value that RateMyApartment offers to universities – an active effort to ensure student safety and an improvement to overall student satisfaction – is largely intangible and tricky to quantify. Eventually we were able to confidently assign a concrete business value to our project by thinking of the entire business problem, and the solutions to it, through a different lens than we had originally thought was most appropriate.
Instead of trying to argue the benefit in terms of cost savings or earned revenue, we learned to view the solution as a response to the negative impacts of current housing conditions on student satisfaction and retention. In our final proposal, we were able to center the narrative around this business problem and demonstrate our platform’s value on the basis of mitigating further student, and tuition, loss. By framing the argument in this manner, our team was able to assert the financial value that RateMyApartment offers the institutions it aims to serve.
MIS 3406 Pro Point WordPress Class Project
This project focused on WordPress, specifically coding on top of WordPress, to showcase the platform’s customizability. The platform allows users to customize the blocks of text easily to display html, CSS and user-written JavaScript. I showcased this using a locally-hosted version of WordPress and a small sample JavaScript code. The site also allows for theme customization and includes CSS editing to change the theme, and therefore your text site-wide. I learned the application of these techniques and they will be helpful to know when I need to work with WordPress again, or in web design at large.

Helping Hands – Habitat for Humanity Restore
My team worked on Helping Hands Technology, which was a company that focused on helping Habitat for Humanity Restore improve their website. Working on this project taught me to always be able to adapt because most of the time your first idea will not work. Starting off we had something completely different in mind for our company but as we research more deeply we discovered that it would not be a viable service. This forced us to go back to the drawing board to think of a new way to roll out our ideas.
Changing directions in such a short period of time was hard, but we were able to finally find a suitable solution that wasn’t so far off from the original idea. This lead to many brainstorming sessions to catch up and produce what was needed. Walking through the steps to make this project functional like the business case and process map taught me how to break down a project so that anyone would understand our idea just by reading the documents. I found this to be very intriguing and made me think about our solution from a different point of view.

Research Papers
The project for MIS 2502 (Data Analytics) was to write two essay about different topics that relate to the MIS field. The first essay was about machine learning. In this essay I talked about what machine learning is and how it is used. I gained knowledge on how much of a role machine learning in technology plays a huge role in our everyday lives and usually goes unnoticed. The second essay was describing what data science ethics is. In this essay I talked about the main ethics is data science how how they can effect the information or conclusions we draw from data after it is interpreted.
