Administrative Assistant, Temple MIS

Administrative Assistant

October 2017 – May 2019

Shortly after I declared MIS as a major in Fall 2017, I accepted a position within the MIS department, assisting the Senior Associate Director with MIS undergraduate career outcomes data collection, data analysis, and reporting to prepare for annual undergraduate career outcome reports and publications to maintain 100% job placement rate. I also work with the staff and faculty members to devise integrated alumni databases for the MS in IT Auditing and Cyber Security (ITACS) and MS in Digital Innovation in Marketing (DIM) programs, which will be used to create internal reports for the department. In this position, I incorporate data from multiple sources into an extensive Excel spreadsheet to constantly identify duplicate, incorrect, or missing entries; and update new entries as they become available.

Other than that, I also perform ad hoc administrative tasks as assigned, such as:

  • Conducting the department’s first-ever predictive analysis using Excel and Access to allocate course sections for 9 MIS undergraduate courses, accounting for over 2,400 seats
  • Assisting the Executive Director of the Fox School’s Institute for Business and Information Technology (IBIT) in revamping MIS 2101/2901‘s Digital Identity Management assignment, which is distributed to over 1,300 students across 14 sections every semester. In this role, I assisted in revising, improving, and testing the assignment by providing a detailed review of all potential problems or ambiguity with the assignment.
  • Hosted a day-long on-campus tour for 2 prospective students by coordinating with 7 faculty members and 3 student hosts, resulting in both students committing to Temple MIS and consequently receiving merit scholarships from IBIT.

This position has increased my proficiency in Excel and developed my ability to learn various softwares, such as Cognos and Salesforce, in such a short time. My experience in creating and managing multiple databases also provides a solid groundwork for my future internships and ultimately my professional career. It has also honed my critical thinking and communication skills, as I have to keep asking questions, gathering data, and evaluating information from multiple sources in order to generate meaningful solutions and feedback.
