I must say I was initially hesitate about taking this course. As an older student the decision to return to school is not always the easiest. When I read the description of this course I hesitated even more. I am not what many would say technology savvy but after 5 weeks of this course I have learned a great deal of information. I have begun the journey of opening a small business a few months ago and much of what I have learned in this course will guide my next steps. I believe the most important topic in this course was CRM. As a consumer and now part business owner I believe the most important relationship to have is with your customers. I know my business is not ready to implement a CRM system just yet but until I am I am going to manage these relationships the old fashion way, however I do acknowledge that once my business grows I will be in need of a system that can make the process of knowing my customers automated. Very interesting course !
-
I think the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is gathering, organizing, and analyzing data that is based on either the company or the consumers. I can apply the things i learned in the course for my future career when it comes to data and depending on where I am at, the consumers as well. I think every business out there can utilize some piece of content from this course to apply to themselves when it comes to their business whether it includes implementing a new system or just by having a more efficient way of doing things.
-
I think the biggest thing I will takeaway from this class are the CRM and SCM. I now know how important both of these things are to businesses. I also enjoyed learning about swim lane diagrams and how things fall into order/place. I think it is good knowledge to have going into the working world. Technology is only going to continue to advance so it is important to have a basic understanding of all of the concepts we covered in this course.
-
I believe that the most important technology in the workforce is SCM. With Supply Chain Management, you are able to accomplish such a wide variety of things and do it on a much larger scale than ever before. This is such an ever growing aspect of business and it is the main reason that eCommerce is slowly growing larger and larger with companies such as Amazon and Wayfair. These large broker sites would never be possible without highly advanced SCM. Elements I will use to grow in the IS environment and business in general is the knowledge and continued learning of the subject and to never become complacent about any of technology as it is so ever changing.
-
Technology is a massive efficiency tool in any industry. It is used as an organization tool, a data collector, a data processor, etc. It has changed how things are done with CRMs and ERPs in businesses in hours to seconds. The reduction of time is the most important change technology has brought to the workforce. The understanding of ERP’s, CRM’s, and SCM’s have opened my eyes to how useful these programs can be. Any business can benefit from these systems and the results are well rounded, especially cost-efficient.
-
The biggest aspect of technology in the workforce is the communication between different branches. Its similar to a democracy, how each section has its own things to follow in order to come together to form the entire business. Even though this was an entry level class more interested in scratching the surface rather than deep diving, it was still very interesting to go through different ways technologies are involved. Learning about the swim maps was very interesting to me and I think it will be helpful to shape my future outlook on business – I will be more patient when dealing with customer service while waiting for something to ship, or even my own HR team when dealing with a work issue now that I know there is such an extreme checks and balances system.
-
My biggest takeaway was working on lab assignments. It was very helpful to understand Data base, tables and how data relates. I think it was very solid foundation in this area. Also, automation was a huge takeaway. It was very helpful because I am studying accounting and now i can better understand how data flows in my firm and how database is created. I am looking forward taking more MIS classes to grow my understanding in Information Systems.
-
The biggest takeaway I have from this class is that the business world has a lot of automation behind it. Efficient information systems allow businesses to focus on other more important things instead of monotonous tasks. Being that I major in accounting, technology will drive my career. Being capable of using these types of technologies is crucial to be successful as an accountant nowadays. This class was eye-opening in that I must always be up-to-date on contemporary technologies in my field.
-
My biggest takeaway from the course is that many different types of systems can be used to streamline the business world. Many different jobs and tasked can be solved in a fraction of the time and with more efficiency than using multiple departments or people. This was shown heavily in the class by some of our swim lane diagrams and other such tools. I believe having more knowledge on these different types of systems and the value of having them will be important to my future business endeavors. I am sure that this technology will only become more useful and revolutionary as time goes on.
-
The most important aspect of technology in the workforce is having as many people as possible trained to use the most current and widely used programs across all industries. By making sure that you are trained to use the most current and widely used programs for the industry that you work in, you will help your company run at its fullest potential and it will give you a competitive edge in the workforce. The use of the program Salesforcce in this class was great and I feel that it shaped my understanding of how complex companies need programs to be in order to utilize it for them for their needs.
-
The biggest takeaway from this class was that the most important role of technology in the workplace is utilizing technology to help organize data. Some of these technologies include ERP’s and ER diagrams. The reason that these technologies are so useful for businesses is that they can help us organize and process data in various forms and quantities. And using this organized data, we can make informed decisions about what is best for the business.
-
The biggest take away for me is realizing that with the evolution of technology we will always have a use for the “people” resources. MIS gives us the opportunity to look at the how and and implement the appropriate changes that need to be made for the business to run effectively.
-
In this class I learned how to use saleforce to create a contacts with customers and other companies; just like we create a database, and after that we can easily find out which customer/company match the condition. I think the most important part of technology in the workforce is enterprise resource planning system. It saves more time and reduce employees’ salary. This system will automatically update customers or inventory date, also it can order new supply and contact customers.
-
I have learned a lot of useful information in this course but my main takeaway would have to be Supply Chain Management (SCM). I did not know the importance of SCM in business before this class. SCM allows a business to function at its best and maximize customer value which is very important to any business small or large.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class was learning about how much technology really is changing the way we live. This was driven home by the video with a lot of facts that we discussed in another weekly question. For example, I didn’t realize that the most in demand jobs 5 years from now are probably not even in existence yet. I would say that the most important technologies I learned in this class are SCMs and CRMS. They are pretty much essential if I am going to start a business.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is the fact that technology has the power to completely change the way business is run. Technology has always been powerful and it will only continue to be more powerful as time goes on. I have a feeling that in the future to come there will be a lot more unemployment as technology and robots will take over. Technology will have the ability to completely change the way a business runs. We see technology being utilized in businesses all around us. For example at my local McDonalds instead of ordering at the cash register you order on big touch screens. Technology is very efficient and will only be more effective as time goes on.
-
First of all, through the five weeks’ study, my main achievement is to have a better understanding of the information system. As a non-business major, this course enables me to know what MIS is and the knowledge related to MIS. Although my major has nothing to do with business, I believe that as a student majoring in communication, broader knowledge can help me better understand social events.
-
As a accounting major, I was required to take this class. My attitude about the class was the strictly just get it over with as I feel about most classes. However, I didn’t understand why a Accounting major was required to take this class. As this class comes to a end I understand why and I now believe everyone in all colleges should be required to take this class. The data processing CRM and SCM I would say are the most important. I deal with daily interactions and I didn’t know exactly what I was dealing with, I just called it a system. However, with technology improving everyday it’s important that mainly business majors are aware of the system and processes Mis brings.
-
I took an MIS class before at a previous school, so I had some preconceived notions about what this class was going to be about. In my previous class we did a lot of excel and tableau work, and we followed instructions to make formulas, but I didn’t really know what I was learning. However, this class was nothing like my previous one. This class is a lot more about the business process and how MIS is used in the real world. It provides real life examples, and while we still use excel, we use it in a way that teaches because it is based off of real examples.
-
After spending the last 5 weeks learning about how information systems affect businesses I think they are the most important technology a business can have. They can allow a company to streamline part of their workflow in a way that is not possible without them. They can also be used to allow departments to work better together with shared data and real time updates.
-
In the past 4-5 weeks of this course, I have learnt many new things. I have learnt how to use Salesforce and learning different system within an organizations. I have a cousin working for programming industry and she mentioned that if I learn salesforce, even just the basics, it will get me somewhere. Taking this class, will help me for my future career in MIS or an IT career.
-
I think this course really opened my eyes as to how business is going to be conducted moving forward. Technology is only going to continue to evolve and we as young business professionals must adapt with the times. I think the most important aspect of technology in the workplace is the automation of how goods enter consumers hands. The way a business will rely on certain softwares for day-to-day operations is huge. Every fascet of a business is combined into one, which effectively allows it to operate much more efficiently.
-
The most important thing I learned about in this class was ERDs because every business uses them and being able to read and understand one will help you better understand the business. For example you can see all the the different entities in the company and how they interact with each other or are interrelated. This course exposed me to a lot of new information about what goes into the systems that we use every day and it is all very useful and will come in handy.
-
An important thing that I learned in this class is the efficiency of information systems. Businesses would not be the same without these systems being put in place, as they save so much time (and money) regarding everyday activity in said firm.
-
My biggest takeaway for this course was how it taught to read and comprehend information better. I mean this I never knew how much information or data goes back and forth in between businesses and what it took for this to be managed in M.I.S. and such. This is just nuts to comprehend and I’m happy I was able to learn this from this course and keep it as a skill for the future.

Which is important is totally up to the type of organization. If the company were Oracle or another software heavy business, then it would definitely be CRM. While a goods heavy organization would certainly be Supply Chain Management. A company like Amazon for example has some of the most advanced automated warehouse technology in the world and it would all be for nothing if the SCM wasn’t doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing.
I feel that to a certain extent, CRM systems work to the customers advantage in helping them be able to interact with sellers and other services faster and easier. Without some personal data sharing and storing, using a lot of web based services would take quite a lot of extra keystrokes and extra time. I have only been affected positively from them and never been a victim of harassment by them so until then, CRM systems are okay in my book. -
As to what nicholas and katrine said above. It really does depend on the type of organization and what they provide. Regardless however, every business has a service and generally every service requires products. SCM is what would help us manage these products and the more efficient that flow of goods is, the more efficient the CRM can be.
I’ve had experience with microsoft dynamics and it worked well for the company I was working at but I could imagine a much larger company needing more than that, they just didnt want to pay for the implementation costs. -
The goal with CRM is to have more targeted marketing, sales and service activities to create customer relationships and to drive more revenue and profit in the long run. While many employees might participate in a CRM system, it is overseen by the marketing department. The goal with SCM is to have more trusting, efficient supply chain relationships to minimize distribution costs and optimize revenue. That being said, to determine which is more important, I think it depends on the organization/company’s goal. My personal preference would be SCM but that is only because I know more about SCM than CRM.
-
I find SCM systems more important in the long run. While it is important to maintain relations with customers, a company can’t properly do that if there are problems with the product. It is important that a company has the product necessary to facilitate business, and the best way to do that is by using a SCM system. I do however believe a CRM system could be more beneficial in certain business types, possibly those that are more service based. CRM systems are also very important for all communication and engagement with customers. It really comes down to what kind of service or product the business offers. Both systems have their place in the business world and change the way things are handled.
-
SCM deals with getting the right product on the right shelf at the right time, at the right price. CRM deals with the use of database software to collect, analyze, and interpret customer data. Although CRM is important to maximize sales, I believe that SCM is more important as it deals with the entire process until purchase. If the product isn’t available, no money will be made.
-
I think it depends on the organization as to whether CRM or SCM for example a bank would prolly need more customer relationship management than supply chain management. Customer data utilization has become a basic trend of the 21st century business model for companies in general in my eyes so therefore I feel that it’s necessary to make a good long lasting corporation. I would say the closet thing I’ve ever had to when it comes to a CRM was when I was a cashier at Burlington coat factory and after every customer purchase you had to ask for the customers phone number as a way of keeping a record of the purchase.
-
I might be biased in my opinion, but I think SCM is far more important than CRM to an organization. The supply-chain is a pivotal part of any business, large or small. This is the link between the consumers and their products. Many people don’t ask what happens to a product from when it is developed to when its on the shelves for sale. The Global Value Chain takes all the facets of a business and combines them into one. With outsourcing a product could be developed in the US, put together in China, packaged in Taiwan, and sold in France. What makes all this possible…. SCM. I’ve had experience filling out surveys after the purchase and use of a product. It’s a nice sentiment by the company to check up on how my product is working. Another CRM method I’ve experienced was a simple phone call asking me what products I would be interested in next.
-
I am not sure if we can say that CRM is more important then SCM or vise versa. It all depends on number of factors. It really depends which industry it is. If it is wholesale distribution and it is an existing business with its customer base then SCM is more important in this case, because they need to minimize inventory overhead costs and increase fulfillment rates. But if it is a startup and it is service business then they might need more CRM system, because they need to track leads and analyze customers to generate revenues.
-
In my opinion, both SCM and CRM are essential for an enterprise and an organization. Whereas SCM focuses primarily on products, CRM focuses on customer relationships. A good relationship with customers can improve the reputation of an enterprise, so its products will get more attention. But if a company doesn’t have a product, you can’t talk about customer contact. So I think SCM is more important.
-
Personally I think that SCM and CRM are equally as important. SCM deals with the process as a whole while CRM helps makes the process go more smoothly and creates better sales. Depending on what your business or service is you need to figure out what your customer base wants and reacts to the best in order to maximize profits. CRM helps create positive relationships with customers and helps retain customers. However if you run a poor process you will end up doing poorly in the end. I work at a pizza shop and I am always asking questions about the SCM process and how everything gets brought in. I also notice my bosses being aware of what the customers like the most and their ability to try and maximize profits. I think businesses being aware of their customers and learning more about them is a business savvy tool to make your business or company more successful.
-
The importance of SCM and CRM are truly relative to the type of organization using systems like these. Personally, I work for a bank. In the banking industry, CRM is vital to the ability to sell bank products, and therefore, create revenue. While SCM would not really be helpful to a bank, manufacturers and retailers would benefit highly. However, CRM could also highly benefit just about any business, so I will side with CRM in terms of overall importance. CRM can show opportunities for businesses to take advantage of; SCM more or less automates a business operation. I believe that opportunity is what initiates the stimulation of the market, and CRM can contribute to this process.
-
I think SCM is more important to an organization because if you mismanage your supply chain, you could run into some major problems. I think I would rather make sure that I have the correct inventory rather than trying to figure out more about the customer when I do not have a smoothly running supply chain. On the other hand, CRM’s are very useful for an organization especially when you are trying to target certain people or trying to get an idea about what your market is like.
-
Both SCM and CRM are important. However, I believe that CRM is the most important and is more relative to all industries. Without customers you have no business to sell goods or provide a service to. If you work in an industry in which you only provide a service the SCM does not impact your business. Knowing your customers and how to serve them will always be crucial for a business to thrive. Using CRMs is a powerful way to learn more about your customer. I can walk into my favorite store and the associates will know my clothing size, shoe size and favorite brand in order to make it an experience and want me to come back.
-
Both SCM and CRM are important, however the need for one system or the other depends on the type of business you have. CRM would be better for a smaller business, one that is trying to get its name out. The CRM helps provide more targeted marketing strategies in order to enhance relationships with customers and increase profits in the long run. SCM is better for larger businesses with a more loyal and established customer base. It allows for a more streamlined process with suppliers because the company’s inventory system is synced with the supplier’s. The goal is to minimize distribution cost and to maximize revenue.
-
SCM & CRM are both extremely important in to a business organization. I find SCM to be more important than CRM, as the SCM is great for large businesses with a lot of inventory. CRM’s are important in smaller business and with targeting specific demographics/attaining data.
-
SCM and CRM are both important but I think that SCM is more important than CRM because SCM ensures that everything occurs smoothly. While CRM work with customers to take orders and solve problems. SCM would be beneficial in multiple ways for future works like reducing costs, works efficiently, and eliminate bottlenecks. SCM views the process as a whole and would be better long-term.
-
Although both SCM and CRM have proven to be useful for many business I believe that CRM is more important to a company’s success because if your customers are not happy with their experience as they purchase your product or service, then your company will not ultimately succeed. However, SCM still very useful for companies and they both have their pros and cons.
-
I think CRM is more important to a business because it provides you with comprehensive data on your customers and potential customers. There would be no business without your customers so it is imperative that you maintain that relationship with them. It is slightly unsettling to think that companies are tracking and gathering information about you but on the other hand if you have a reoccurring problem and the company’s CRM had documented information about it you would be able to receive better help and service from them.
-
Customer relationship management, and supply chain management both are very useful for business. However, if I have to pick one for the most important one, i will choice CRM. Building a good relationship with customers are helpful to maintain your business. Also the customers will suggest their friends or family to support your business. I think Amazon is a good example of CRM. I purchased a headphone, but it did not delivery on time. After 2 days, I contact Amazon customer service, tell them everything. They mail a new one for me as fast as they can.
-
I think CRM is important. Building a strong relationship with customers is very important to the business. You want to collect data as much as possible with your customers so the company knows what needs to be done and needs to improve. An example of this is going to a restaurant for my first time. I have heavy peanut allergy, so I had to conversate with the waitress that what would they recommend, and is there any allergen that I need to be aware of as far as peanuts go. They told me what I could get and couldn’t get.
-
I think the connection you build with a CRM system is important because it can help you build that personal connection and relationship you build with the consumer is very important. It also provides a sense of security for the consumer. Personally, I felt that the collection of data can be annoying, but the deals and information that comes from it tends to be very useful. For instance, I worked in retail where we had a CRM system for promotional reasons and a point system for the customers. I know the customers were not fond of it, however others loved it because they got benefits from it.

Although its estimated birth/creation date was between 2008-2009, I feel that a very important innovation is the IOT (internet of things). The Nest is one example of a smart home device and it has changed the original business model of the thermostat. When you go to Home Depot to purchase a regular thermostat, you own the thermostat and it functions for all time until it breaks but when you purchase a Nest thermostat, you trade the ability to own the technology with conveniences like controlling it from your phone, having it learn your patterns of use, etc. If the Nest were to be bought out by a different company, your Nest thermostat would no longer work. Basically when you buy a Nest thermostat, you buy the equipment but not the ability to control it.
-
Cloud computing used in its current context was originated in 2006. It has vastly transformed the way businesses run. It makes operations run dramatically smoother and opens communicataion between different sectors. It also saves costs in the long term and provides customers with better service on the front end, which would lead to more profit. It stores data for future use makeing it easy to reference for employees and customers. The upper management would alsomore easily see the short comings of the business.
-
I think the most important new innovation is the now consumer availability of self driving cars. I think going forward, this technology will only get more prevalent. Forerunners are Tesla, most German car manufacturers and Cadillac among others. Self driving cars will make roads safer places to drive and when the technology is more common it will alleviate traffic in many congested areas such as cities as humans often drive carelessly and that hinders traffic greatly.
-
It is without question that the cloud is the most important innovation over the last few years. The cloud offers a special and flexible option for them to make sure they will be able to concentrate on business execution. There is no other service that can even compare or come close to it. SMBs that need to concentrate on the business do not have the knowledge or the teams in place to maintain their systems. They are also not willing to spend the time or money to go in that direction. The cloud allows us to store data and saved files so we can access it later. Before this, we would rely on hard drives or portable flash drives to save our data. It has single handedly changed the way how businesses run.
-
The innovation of autonomous vehicles is unbelievable. It is needless to say that it will be making an irreversible change in the industry, especially the taxi driving community. App-driven car service such as Uber and Lyft has taken over worldwide, taking technology to this other level can only make our normal models obsolete at some point in the future.
-
I believe the creation of chatbots is a important innovation over the last few years. Chatbots is a computer programmed robot that simulates human conversation. Temple University has added a Chatbot called OwlBot to its website. Chatbots allow business to be available for clients 24/7 while cutting down on operational cost. This innovation is one that will help business to keep their clients happy while saving money !
-
The widespread availability of smart devices is incredibly important to the business world. The development of smart devices has led to more innovative advertisement tactics by companies. Most people have some sort of smart device, and are constantly on some form of social media. Companies are able to reach a wider range of views on sites like Facebook or YouTube that have these advertisements. Smart devices also benefit businesses with a more direct form of communication, being able to check email anywhere or text as needed is important when communicating within a business. The availability of smart devices has without a doubt changed the way business is conducted in the last few years.
-
I feel that autonomous cars a big disruptive innovation. It is quite interesting to see if and when they will overtake traditional cars. Obviously traditional cars driven by humans are still more common, but in the future it’s possible they could be wiped away by this disruptive technology.
-
I think the wide use of smart phones is a big disruptive innovation. Over the years smart phones have become so popular and everyone has one. They only continue to get better as time goes on. People can do everything from the palm of their hand. Smartphones have the ability to replace daily laptop or desktop usage. Smartphones and tablets will only continue to improve and be more disruptive over time.
-
3D printing is a fascinatingly innovative technology that could lead to some real potential. Currently, 3D printers are commonly used to recreate statues, jewelry, and common patterns and figurines. In the future, 3D printing wants to be able to create food from simple powders and oils using basic proteins for nutrients. If there is a way to dictate food and make it safe for consumption with all of the nutrients needed, then it is within reach to help provide food to countries in need through the usage of printers and cartridges for a very low cost. It is even possible to have mass produced printers in everyday households for common items with the cartridge components readily available in store; kind of like a “do it yourself” kit for the future.
-
I think the most interesting innovations is GPS. From physical GPS to now which is the GPS found in technologies. The most helpful part of GPS, in this case is Google Maps. Google Maps has almost everything you need from directions for cars to Bicycling, public transportations, walking, flying. I think just recently in the past year or so they included the speedometer which tells you what the speeds are for those roads. Though I wish they could add more speedometers everywhere on Google Maps. Also, it let’s you choose what time to go and arrive, which I think is the best. GPS is very useful in today’s society, because without GPS I’m pretty sure not many of us would know how to get to their destinations. The one important feature that I like is being able to save the places and writing questions. Having those two features has helped me to know more about that place and being able to save it so that I can find them easier.
-
I think the most interesting innovation is the smartphone. Over the years we have seen how this kind of device has taken over our daily lives. We have access to almost anything in the world with just a touch of a screen. This innovation is also disruptive as it is good because now we live in a time where everything we do is dependant on our smartphone. Will it come a time where our phones will have total control over us?
-
Although it’s been around for many year now, I think the most interesting technology is the creation of social media. People now have immediate access to events and stories. They are able to see for themselves what is going on in the works versus being told by news media. The real time access has given the public the ability to have knowledge immediately.
-
The most interesting, and furthermore the most important contemporary technology must be the creation of the cloud and cloud computing. Technology ultimately saves businesses money and effort because of its automation, meaning humans do not have to be paid to complete tasks that technology can complete for them. Cloud computing truly encompasses this concept. Not only can an immense amount of information be stored in the cloud, but the cloud can also manage this data in ways that would be extremely difficult for humans to do on a personal computer.
-
I would probably have to say the most interesting innovation within recent times is the autonomous car like the Tesla. This is interesting because your vehicle literally drives itself for you, and you’re basically a passenger. It is crazy to think of the technology that was put into these cars to make them do the things they do on their own or with a push of a button. The fact that you yourself manually had to control the car I guess was the original business model, but now the car basically controls itself (when it comes to the driving), so the business model has changed to an autonomous vehicle.
-
In my opinion, the most important and exciting innovation in recent years should be the rapid development of e-commerce ( online shopping). The growth of e-commerce enables countless people to buy what they need without leaving their homes, saving their time from going from store to store to choose products. The development of e-commerce has not only affected these merchants but also greatly improved the express delivery service associated with it.
-
What do you think was the most interesting or important innovation in the last few years? Why? What has it done to the original business model?
The most interesting technological innovation for me in the recent years is in my eyes is Uber. The reason for why this is the most incredible change for me is it changed the taxi game of how driving takes place entirely legit everything. that was seen as before as normal has been rewritten due to just anyone being able to rent their car out as a taxi now. The original business model has been changed permanently because as I said anyone can now become a taxi driver due to Uber and lyft as well and not just in cities but in the suburbs as well.
-
I think the most interesting innovation is autonomous/autopilot cars. Autonomous cars are life changing because it allows you to get from one play to another without paying attention to the road. It is also proven to be much safer than regular automotive cars because 37,000 Americans die each year from car accidents. Businesses like Uber and Lyft has invested in autonomous cars as a long term strategy. I think autonomous cars are important to the future because it will probably reduce the rate of car accidents significantly caused by drunk and reckless drivers.
-
I feel that the most interesting technological innovation in the recent years is the cloud. There is so much space, time, and money saved by the easy-accessible “cloud” that we can all access on our phones, computers, etc. The cloud connects our data and devices and can better improve our day-to-day lives. The convenience of all of that in your pocket is what makes the cloud so important.
-
I think that the most hot innovation is the smartphone. People used to be tied to one location to be able to use internet, or perform business. Now most of the things and all necessary business operations could be performed on the go through the smartphone. This is mind blowing. People can look up directions, do basic everyday banking. But also people can run business form their phone, for example trade on Ebay or amazon. Smart phone definitely disrupted computer industry and made a huge step forward in mobile industry.
-
I believe that the one of the most important innovations that has occurred within the last few years that I find very interesting is the emergence of Artificial Intelligence. Even though there are some major problems with AI that are going to have to be resolved soon it is amazing to see an AI like Watson being able to act like humans in some special cases. And I think that as this technology continues to develop it could be used in a variety of fields but I think that AI will be the most disruptive in customer service as the AI will be able to use various algorithms and programs to help customers reach a desired solution to their various problems.
-
To me the most interesting and influencial innovation would be AI. AI is short for articial intelligence. Most notibly, AI is used in self-driving vehicles like Tesla Model X. AI is used to program machines and perform other IT services. A professor at MIT, Lex Friedman has performed multiple experiments on AI in self-driving vehicles. The question he consistently ponders is “What happens when AI fails”? If the near future consists of a heavy reliance on AI to perform certain tasks, how will we calculate the risk of something going array? This puts a wrentch in many business models that are mvoing towards self-automated tasks.

I think a good example of disruptive innovation is the invention of the smart phone. Everyone has access to the internet and different apps in the palm of their hands. People have become rich or created their own businesses just by inventing an app or creating their own that customers can download. Vennmo is another example of an app that is making cash seem obsolete so it is interesting to see what will happen in the next ten years with cryptocurrency as well. I do home care for my grandmother and used to fax in my time sheets every week, this year the company hired a third party service called Carify that made me download an app and now I clock in and submit claims on my phone. It has a location service however and that seems like an invasion of privacy with is a growing issue with technology and how much information is being gathered on us now because of it.
-
What do you think was the most interesting or important innovation in the last few years? Why? What has it done to the original business model?
Without a doubt, the most innovative and interesting new network company is Uber. Uber was created in March of 2009. Its popularity grew more and more since. It has become a important innovation due to the fact that you can schedule a ride to any destination within minutes. Taxis have paved a way for companies like Uber, by taking all of the disadvantages of taxis and fixing them to the customers liking, taxi are being push to the back burner.
-
I think the most interesting innovation in the last few years is cloud storage. I think it is crazy that so much info can be stored online and accessed from anywhere. I think it has changed the original business model by allowing companies to have workers work from home, as well as save and back up more of their data in the event of a fire or something similar. Companies should feel safer knowing their data is not on site, and can be accessed by them at any time.
-
I think the most interesting innovation in the last few years is mobile payment. People didn’t need to bring their wallet when they go outside. For example, Apple pay, PayPal in America. Moreover in China, they have Ali-pay and WeChat pay. With the 4G technology support, Chinese people no longer need wallet. I can pay money to my friends or family member, by scanning their WeChat pay’s QR code.

My major is Actuarial Science and it is important to collect good data so that insurance premiums can be calculated accurately. If there was bad data entered into an excel sheet, it would provide inaccurate calculations regarding the pure premium for a policy (or multiple policies). Charging the customer an inaccurate premium that is too high can lead to many customers canceling policies and charging a premium that is too low can lead to the insurance company going bankrupt in the scenario that many claims are filed at once (after a natural disaster strikes). Having an integrated system that enables users to have one clear view of the data is essential because it can make it easier for the user to spot data that may be inaccurate.
-
My major is Human Development and Community Engagement and good data is crucial as the social sciences are driven by data driven decision making. If you give a kid a psychological assessment and the data you compare it to is wrong, you may give the wrong diagnosis. Data is also important in the field of Education and Social Work because communication and allocation of scarce resources are big challenges.
-
-
My major is architectural design. In this industry, similar to what Katrine said above, the most affected entity by bad data would be the client. For example, bad calculations from the commence of a project of an existing site may have the risk affecting documentation of the project later on. These miscalculations, bad data in this example, affect digital modeling of the hypothetical building and so as a result may affect the interventions wanted by the client. The real issue here would be once the construction stage is reached and pinpointing the source of the problem is more difficult. Having a good integrated system in a business has an overall benefit in every process/stage of a project.
-
My major is Accounting and Management Information Systems. In my industry, speaking on an Accounting standpoint, good data is very important to the accountant and the customer. If I was to be filing someones yearly income tax, a bad system that would cause a mix up of even a penny can cause problems with the IRS. Accuracy and clarity/communication is vital. If your system clearly communicates the data then the work can be done more effectively. From the customers standpoint, it helps ensure transparacy throughout the process since someone is dealing with your finances.
-
I am an accounting major and good data would be crucial to working a job like that. If you have bad data then you could be steering your clients in the wrong direction and can cause problems in the end. The better data kept the easier your job is. If i was working at a big accounting firm and I was keeping bad records I would be hurting not only myself and my clients but also the firms reputation as well. Keeping good data allows you to be more confident with whatever job your doing.
-
Collecting good data is very important, and in finance(my major) there is really no way in getting around the correct value as the wrong answer will end up losing you a lot of clients or gaining a whole lot and in the end probably being audited and being found guilty of illegal activities. Having the right data for your clients is imperative as they are most likely paying you for a service and expect that honest service in return. If that process were to go as planned then you keep your job and the client is happy(hopefully).
-
My major is Risk Management & Insurance and collecting good data is very crucial in the insurance industry. Having inaccurate data would have some very costly mistakes and effects in the market. Data is also incredibly vital when it comes to the consumers in insurance. Data is needed all of the time when figuring out insurance claims or when looking at insurance providers. If a system can give reliable and accurate data that it can make the job easier and more effective on both ends.
-
My Major is Economics and Finance with a minor in accounting and collecting good data in economics, finance, and accounting as they all require work that is done online or through an online tool with data. Inaccurate data can lead to multiple issues and dilemmas in all three of those fields from miscalculated balance sheets in accounting, loss on profits in finance, miscalculations of economic charts for forecasting future economic outflow and much more terrible outcomes. Data is all that can make these three majors work accurately and responsively in everyday work situations and in life in general. Reliable data is what is needed to make the world a better place in these job fields and in general without good data the world will not be balanced like all things should be.
-
I am a finance/econ major and it is very important to collect good data. Collecting bad data could result in doing the wrong deal and losing money. For example, if I collected the wrong data on something about a stock and was using it to make a decision, its very possible it could be the wrong decision due to bad data.
-
I am a HRM major. After completing my degree my dream is to be a HRM executive either in recruiting or benefits department of a company. Gathering information for any HR specialty is imperative. In the HR field you are collecting and storing personal data needed to assure proper human resource management of all employees As a current Temple Student financial Services Employee I can understand the importance of data collection as well.
For a benefits specialist it is imperative to collect data regarding the medical and dental benefits of employees or the allotment and allocation of retirement funds or employee specific plans. For individuals in recruiting it is imperative to collect data regarding prospective employees to ensure you are making the best hiring decision for your company. Data is what fulls every company no matter the field, proper collection of that data ensures proper functioning of all its departments and counterparts.
-
My major is Accounting. In the accounting field, it is very crucial to have good data because the customer trusts the accountant to accurately file their accounts. If the accountant records bad data the liability would usually point towards the accountant who made the mistake and he/she will most likely lose their job. However, if the bad data was provided to the accountant, he/she might not be at fault.
-
Working in a HR related field it is imperative to have accurate data. People resources is the biggest expense on the P&L and being able to on-board qualified candidates into the right role requires accurate data. If the data is bad this would create elongated cycle times to bring in resources and increased attrition rates just to name a few. Overall bad data would essentially be cost the business money that could be used to run the business
-
With my major being Supply Chain Management, data is very important when dealing with inventory and resources. Data can be used for how much inventory we need to purchase, and if there is incorrect data then that leads to having either too much of something or not enough of something which can impact the company. Data analytics is important in many areas of many occupations.
-
I am majoring in communication and social influence and minoring digital marketing. Although I am not a business major, I think collecting useful data is still very important for my major. As communication & media-related major, it is essential to convey the correct and informed information to the public through media platforms. If only express their opinion is far from the impact on society. Only statements based on facts and supported by real data can be trusted. To have a clear view of data can help media workers that people will have a more definite sense about the issue so we can persuade them to believe something we want them to understand.
-
I am majoring in International Business concentrating in International Supply Chain. I believe in any organization it is imperative to collect good data. Having a clear source oif ornagized good data allows a business to review past info and forecast future decisions. Seeing as how integrated and connected supply chains are, they run off data. If the data being collected is inaccurate, it can throw the whole flow of the value chain off. This affects things such as inventory, transportation, and distribution. In a daily work environment, a supply chain specialist often reviews inventory data and transportation plans. If the data for these is off, it can disrupt the flow of the global value chain.
-
I am majoring in Business Management. Data is incredibly important for my career path. The data must be thoroughly evaluated in order to make the right decisions and choices. Without data we would be led to make less educated decisions without knowing the full impacts of these choices. In the business world, data can be used for a multitude of things. Provided data allows companies to build better relations with their customers for example. Collected data is used anywhere from customers relations to productions values.
-
My declared major is Accounting. I believe that for my major, data is crucial. Between a customer and a accountant data is very important because the customers trust and depend on the accountant to file their taxes, to give them advice on what to do with their income. If any of this information is incorrect because of the data it will lead to a series of catastrophic events for both parties involved. Having bad data in accounting, may lead to you possibly losing your job, or losing your credibility. While dealing with the customers finances, they would like to know that they are in good hands, and having bad data can really mess that up.
-
Being that I am an accounting major, data will ultimately play a significant role in my career. The field of accounting changes constantly in accordance with federal and state law and regulations. Accountants must have access to extremely current and accurate databases to be able to conduct proper accounting research. On a more personal level, accuracy of data is crucial to have success in accounting. It is obvious that false data utilized in accounting will ultimately lead to major failure on the accountant’s end, and penalties and issues on the client’s end.
-
As a MIS major it is important to collect good data that can be easily shared is due to the fact that reliable data is essential in any job in the MIS field. For example, if data is presented in a reliable and clearly legible fashion, the data can then be used to help influence decisions about various things. Some of these may include if an employee is a good fit at the company, or what consulting firm offers us the best value for our money.
-
I am majoring in Accounting and I see how it is very important and crucial for a business to have correct and the most updated data possible. The system needs to be correctly configured so it generates data correctly and generates reports appropriately. If there is a bad data then it might possibly generate wrong transaction or generate a report wrongly. This might effect reconciliation processes and it might give hard times when putting financial statements together. Alternately bad data might lead to a miss representation of business financial health.
-
I am majoring in MIS and clear and correct data is one of the most important parts about the major and any jobs that that it can lead to. Information is what businesses run on and as an IT or IS worker it is important to make sure it is clear and understandable, as well as being accurate enough to work with. Good data can allow the company to have an advantage over other firms or companies and gain monetarily. Bad data could result in bad ventures that could cost the company a lot of money and time. MIS majors should be able to manage data and the databases it is stored in well enough to prevent and recognize improper data.
-
As a Risk Management and Insurance major, collecting good data is crucial for success. When calculating risk in situations, bad data can completely ruin a company’s risk management system. Data being accurate and reliable results in more accurate estimations. Having one clear view of data is convenient for companies, as it saves a lot of time filtering out information for them to access.
-
My major is accounting, so having good data is pertinent. It is important at all times, but especially during tax season. Getting the clients information and forms through the chain of command in an organized and timely matter is necessary because both the firm and the client are on a deadline set by the government. Failing to meet this deadline results in financial penalties. Being organized is important as well, because if mistakes are made on the form then the client will end up paying more or less than they have to.
-
My major is Management Information Systems, and having good data is crucial. It is important to collect good data because you want to build customer’s relationship. Not having accurate data, can go separate ways. You could lose customer’s relationships and you could lose your company alot of money.
-
My major is accounting, it is very important to tracking the information of the company or organization. Also we need updated data to adjust the general entries. In the balance sheet, if Asset does not equal to Liabilities plus Equity, that might be something wrong in general entries. So good data information system will impact my job.

A decision tree could be helpful before any life changing decison or even small impactful every day decisons. Which car should I buy? What college should I go to? Should I eat a salad or a burger? It writes out all the possible outcomes of any action you take. After seeing it written out, you may be more inclined to follow the more logical decison rather than follow emotional impulse.
-
Looking at today’s society, and how technology is impacting the way we think, live, and do things. the idea of decision trees is very useful, because it can be used in our day to day activities. Decision trees can be very useful in planning a vacation trip, like airline to travel with, hotel for accommodation, car to rent or even play a huge role in helping big or small businesses hire or manage employees. It is not only essential in information system but also influential in our daily use.
-
Decision trees can also be helpful in the fields of education and psychology. For example, in educational psych, we do a lot of assessments to determine if a student has a disability but it can be hard to determine what assessment tool is best/most appropriate. There are lots of factors to consider like age of the student, time available, and so on, so a decision tree would be helpful.
-
A decision tree can be very helpful in instances where there are numerous outcomes to a particular situation and if especially the decision is extremely important requiring careful and thoughtful thinking before choosing a decision. In a real-life example where I actually saw a decision tree being used was when my family was deciding whether to renovate our house or either purchasing a newly constructed house and move out. My parents ended up considering a lot of different factors which were in play the most significant among them were the cost of renovation vs. purchase, the time required for renovation vs. purchase, the locality of the new property, so on and so forth. There were several other factors which actually helped my family in making the best decision, although there were many options available on approaching this situation a decision tree allowed us to compare our present situation and its’ compatibility with either of the two options.
-
Watching the video on decision trees has truly helped me to understand their importance. The example used in the film truly showed how business rules can be very confusing if not placed on a decision tree. I can think of a few instances where a decision tree maybe useful. As a financial aid Advisor with Temple University I believe a decision tree could be used in assisting students with one of the most important decisions of a young persons life, which college to attend or event if attending college is beneficial. A student could use a decision tree map out what they are looking for in a university or their qualifications which then can coincide with other factors used to made the college decision. Which are cost of attendance, distance from home. safety of the location and who knows even the food provided.
I am also a small business owner and believe I may create a decision tree of my own to price products according to ounces and other specifics.
-
Decision trees give people the benefit of putting in an input and seeing what the output is. They are an effective way of making decisions. The one field where I think decision trees are most beneficial other than information systems is in the financial field. I think this because it can make saving money or purchasing products much easier. You can make a list of things that you may or may not need and go down the list of items answering yes or no and the reason behind your yes or no. Decision trees are a good way to see if you can/should perform any given action. I also think that decision trees are most helpful when there is more than one consequence. Not only are decision trees used in information systems but they can also be used in our every day life.
-
Besides being used for social media algorithms, tracking online consumer behavior, or structuring an organization’s information system, decision trees can be used in creating safety procedures within an organization. Using a decision tree to create a safety procedure allows a company to create a clear and informative decision making process in the case of an emergency such as reporting sexual harassment and what to do in the scenario of a tornado. Decision trees can help to keep people in an organization safe and help the organization stay accountable for providing a safe environment for workers.
-
I think decision trees can use on medical purpose. Before, the patients visit doctors, they can fill a survey form. They will ask where you had been? What did you eat? Which part of your body feel pain? That will be helpful for doctor understand more about patients sickness.
-
I think decision trees can be helpful in situations involving business and/or financial decisions. Decision trees would clearly layout the options one might have when going about their decision making process. This is helpful because you can see what your outcomes are depending which route you take. Also, it will help gauge how much you will potentially have to spend or how much you could potentially save. An example would be deciding on whether to purchase a new system for a business or keep the current one.
-
I think that decision trees can be very helpful in business. One can use it when there is a variety of options, for example deciding between two different business projects versus not doing any at all. It is not limited to business, however as it could used to help organize your thoughts in any situations where there are multiple decisions.
-
A decision tree can be helpful in any aspect I believe. All decisions have a negative and a positive, therefore drawing up a decision tree can help you see what all those negatives and positives are; and therefore helping you choose the best possible outcome. Some examples of this are buying the new iPhone, which college to attend, and which job offer should you take.
-
Decision trees seem to me to be comparable to the risk management but more methodical. Once you have a very general starting point you can start to ask basic questions and based off the answers, move along from there. The version of risk management that I was taught, You begin your plan and avoid all the unnecessary risk you can in order to complete that plan. A decision tree certainly seems similar as you are making step by step decisions based off the answer prior and by doing so you are avoiding a lot of unnecessary risk along the way.
That being said, I think that a decision tree would be useful at any level of work from an upper level manager down to a front line employee. A decision tree is a visual/physical form of what are brain does sub-consciously over and over throughout the day.
-
A decision tree would be helpful for HRM when hiring resources. Where the individual manager will select a candidate based on qualifications the hiring process can use a decision tree to ensure that the onboarding is done properly and is inline with state laws, rules and regulations. For example, does the candidate require a visa sponsorship? Does the candidate work in a state that has a higher minimum wage? Will the candidate work outside of the US and therefore require a shift differential to work during US time zones. A decision tree and easily outline some common questions to follow to ensure the organization remains compliant.
-
I think a decision tree would be helpful in the stock market to possibly predict a stocks growth. Economists, bankers, and everyday stock traders attempt to accurately and profitably predict the financial market and I think that a decision tree could be useful in their analysis. You can use technical indicators and get the change in a stock each day to gain information and make a stock market prediction.
-
I think a decision tree would be helpful for PR when judging the situation. For PR, people should understand the real condition of the issue, observe the event from all aspects, and then take action on the issue. For different perspective and views, the decision tree can help PR better analyze the problem and corresponding action.
-
Decision trees can be used to come to a solution in many situations. The trees clearly show outputs based on specific information provided. Because of the simplicity of the concept, I believe that decision trees could be used for most decision making. A good use for a decision tree would be to create one to decide which business venture to pursue. Financial decisions are always important in the business world, and it is often that only a select few projects are chosen. The tree would show which paths lead to which potential outcomes and allow the user to form an educated decision.
-
Decision trees can prove to be extremely useful for making important business decisions. Decisions like which direction to take with a specific product or service, whether or not to hire or lay-off employees, or internal procedural questions could be made easier with decision trees. It is very easy to lose sight of all of the different outcomes of a business decision, so a decision tree lays these decisions out more clearly. With this concept of clarity in mind, decision trees could really make any complex decision, even in our personal lives, easier to make.
-
Whether or not we realize it, we go through numerous “decision trees” in our mind daily. A simple example would be setting an alarm in the morning – I wake up at this time, I will be able to make breakfast and get to work on time, but if I wake up an hour earlier I will be able to go to the gym first and then get to work on time. Decision trees help us with everything – their core concept allows us to make informed choices by seeing all the outcomes positive and negative. A decision tree would be very helpful when considering taking a new job. Some of the different nodes could be salary, distance to work, happiness, city of work, and advancement opportunity. The decision tree helps show clearly which boxes are checked.
-
A decision tree would be helpful in so many ways that plague society in everyday life. These could range from societal boundaries like equal pay opportunities or choosing the right career path and outcome of that career path. Decision trees could revolutionize the effects of everyday thinking and risk management for the betterment of society and people in general. If decision trees were used by all the world would be a better place and more civilized and logical place as well but if that ever happens no one really knows.
-
While decision trees are a huge part of all aspects of life, I believe they could really help in the real estate profession. Real estate is all about when and where, and a decision tree can help make that decision clearer. Should you buy a house that requires work? What are the steps after that? Are you going to need to hire other help? How will that impact other decisions? With many decisions made over a long period of time in real estate, a decision tree would help keep track of them, and plan further and more completely than without one.
-
It appears that decision trees can be used for virtually any decision-making situation. Obviously, it would be unnecessary to draw one out when deciding whether or not to buy a t-shirt from a store on Market St, in some situations with complicated options/rules a decision tree can be an efficient way to map out all possible outcomes. I believe that decision trees would be especially helpful in the risk management field.
-
I think decision trees are used more often then we even know. We use decision trees in when deciding on our education and also in the workforce. Decision trees help us narrow down our options and make the best decisions. I once basically used a decision tree when deciding on which part time job I wanted for the summer. I was between caddying and also delivering pizza. The decision tree helped me weigh the pros and cons of each and ultimately led me in the right direction.
-
Decision trees could be used in a variety of fields but outside of information systems they would be most useful in high-risk situations. More specifically big decisions that leaders of businesses have to make, as they can see all of the factors linked to the decision and from there they can make the objectively best decision for the company. This is due to the fact that decision trees present information to the reader in a very organized and easy to follow fashion allowing the reader to focus on the important aspects of the decision.
-
Decision trees are a helpful tool in many other fields other than MIS. For example, in risk management there is alot of decision making that goes on. Trade offs frequently occur and there are often decision rules that must be abided by. Decision trees allow for a simpler represenation of data in order to personify each decisions outcome. A decision tree in an high risk situation shows the immdeiate results of a certain path taken. It elimintaes all irrelevant factors and focuses on the facts and solutions important to the reader.
-
Decision trees can be useful and helpful in our everyday lives. Data analysts may use a decision tree to do statistics. Mathematicians may use it to test some things. For example, doing the coin flip heads or tail, they would use it to collect data and see how many heads and how many tails shows.
-
Decision trees can be useful in many, many, many ways. Vacation planning, project planning, budgeting, gift-shopping, event planning, etc., are just a few and it’s evident that any kind of planning can benefit from decision trees. Planning takes plenty of thought and tools like this can make it easier to reach a consensus. In a corporation to a small household, the users can range but the benefits are the same.
-
Decision trees can be helpful in important personal decision making as well as business. For instance, if you are trying to decide between two jobs maybe one is salary and one is commission, a decision tree can help you see which option is right for you. Or if you are trying to decide between renting schools. You can map out the differences and see which would be the better fit for you personally.
-
When learning about the decision tree, my mind instantly went to economics. In learning about the opportunity cost of every situation. However the decision tree can be very useful in economics and everyday life to demonstrate the results of doing something.
-
Decision tree being really helpful in business processes. If the business needs to either create a process or find a more effective way for that process that is where decision trees would be most helpful.

There were tons of mind boggling facts in the video and the implications are even more profound. What I found most interesting however was that half of what a 4 year college student learns in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year. This is interesting because it plays with our notions on why a degree is valuable while also highlighting how important continuing education is for everyone (whether it be through staying up to date on books in your field, setting up Google alerts, attending annual conferences, or following current events). Skills such as technological proficiency, creativity, curiosity, networking, and cultural competency seem pertinent to success in today’s economy.
-
I found that the most interesting fact in the video is that, “A weeks worth of the New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in a lifetime in the 18th century. This is very surprising because it means that we as a species are that much more intelligent and aware due to what kind of information we have available to us.
As a future business leader (hopefully), I think that it is imperative to know my way around cloud and shareable data. Most all types of data is transitioning from internal to cloud based storage and knowing how to properly manage all of that data and be able to sort through it is very important.
-
There were many facts and thoughts that had me baffled while watching this video. However, the most interesting thing that I learned in this video was that, “The top 10 in-demanded jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004.” That is just a six year difference. It is so crazy to think that the jobs that we are looking forward to having a couple of years from now might be completely irrelevant because something newer and better could come up. This was the most interesting fact to me because I find it incredibly fascinating that we are potentially preparing for jobs that we don’t even know exist yet. From a business standpoint, I think it is great that many jobs are being created in this field. It opens up so much room for opportunity. To have success in a digital economy today, I would say some good traits to have would be networking and having an innovative mind.
-
The amount of facts in the video was truly overwhelming. The fact I found to be most interesting was the fact that a week’s worth of the New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in a lifetime in the 18th century. Although I am unaware of the exact amount of information in a weeks worth of New York Times, I could imagine the difference in information available today than there was in the 18th century would be incredible. It leads me to wonder how Pythagorus discovered the Pythagorean theorem, maybe because there was less nonsense clouding his mind? Interesting stuff.
-
what skills do you think are essential for success in the digital economy?
I think that in order to be successful in the digital economy one needs to have a skill set that will help to process, analyze the information and make sense of it. It was fascinating to learn that the amount of information that is generated in our days each each in New York times magazine is more than a person in 18th century consumed in a lifetime. -
It’s crazy to see how much technology is really changing the world. As an MIS major, the amount of growth I would have to maintain throughout my career is intimidating, but also very exciting. I thought it was interesting that there are 31 billion google searches every month. I can imagine it’ll only grow further as time goes by.
-
The video is very informative and highly educational. the point I want to discuss is the rise of technology and how it is impacting society currently. According to the video, the rise of technology is impacting the way students study and research paper as compare to days that technology was less effective. it is easier for students to get on their computers and get any information available, instead of going to the library and read through books to complete their research. Another point is how the internet is impacting dating and marriage. according to the video 1 out 8 couple marry last year met online.
-
The fact that the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 didn’t even exist in 2004 illustrates the reality that there is an ever evolving job market with new jobs being created that never existed before! Technology is helping in the creation of new jobs as well as helping others to become more efficient with their current occupations. As current and future business leaders, I feel that not only is it important to keep up-to-date with market trends relating to your occupation but it is also important to stay up-to-date with technology news. There are technology trends that may disrupt your business, so adopting technology and programs that will help your business run more efficiently in order to run at its full potential is essential to being successful in today’s economy.
-
There is so much information in this video it is hard to process and fully understand the meaning behind the numbers at first. The fact that stuck out to me the most was how a week worth of news published in The New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in their entire lifetime in the 18th century. This is a good example of how simple life was in that time period and how significantly everyday life has changed with technology and globalization. News can be spread faster than ever. But it also raises the concern of what news that is being shared is real or significant or not. In the end of the video when they shared the facts about how during the time it took to watch the video 67 babies were born in the United States and 274 were born in China was so amazing because you can actually sense how quickly our earths population is growing and it is actually pretty scary.
-
China and India have huge population, so they have more high IQ people. But the United States students have better education for their future careers. However, this video mentions we might learning something that will not exit in the future. Also the computers are smarter than human brain. There are many accounting soft wares can help individual and organization fill their tax report. Would accountant still exit in the future world. The skills for success in the digital economy, I think it is accept new things in future, and also learning something now.
-
What I thought was interesting from the video is that the amount of technical information is doubling every 2 years. This is shocking to me because teenagers who are just starting college will not even know what’s gonna happen for their job opportunities in the world by the time they’re done their prerequisites. Going forward to be successful in the digital economy I’d say along with a business degree you’ll need a computer science or MIS degree. That teaches you about ever changing technology to give yourself an edge on the competition when trying to find a job in the ever changing job field.
-
All of the facts in the video were fascinating, but the one that stood out to me the most was the fact that most of the jobs in 2010 did not exist 2004. On top of that, students are being prepared for jobs that do not even exist yet. Both of these facts are wild because it goes to show how rapidly the world is changing and adapting. When it comes to what skills are the most essential in the digital community, I think being able to communicate clearly and effectively are important as well as being able to work well with people. Another skill that is essential is being flexible and being able to adapt well to changes because the world is changing and evolving at such a fast rate, and it is key to be able to adapt along with it.
-
While there were numerous facts that stood out to me during the video, the most interesting fact was “For students starting a 4 year technical degree this means that… half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study”. This fact was very shocking to me, because the information I learned about as a freshman and the information the freshman will learn when I am graduation will be completely different. They might be learning with different tools of study, new and unique information in the world, it is all together a different education that I would be receiving. Skills that will keep you ahead in the digital economy is always striving to be one step ahead. While this is what many people strive for, trying to be one step ahead will give you the advantage of not being stuck in the present which is truly considered the past. You must be actively willing to learn more about the internet and use all platforms.
-
There were a lot of interesting facts in this video but one that really stood out to me was that the top 10 in demand jobs did not exist yet in 2004. This proves that the world is really moving forward at a rapid pace due to technology and innovation. It is pretty crazy to think that 6 years from now there will likely be tons of jobs that we have not even heard of yet.
-
While all these facts were surprising, the one that stood out the most to me was that “The 25% of India’s population with the highest IQs… is greater than the total population of the United States”. You would think that with all the resources we have available, our IQ would be better if not higher than theirs. As a business student, I think that innovation and technology skills are key to success in the digital economy.
-
The fact that I found to be most interesting is the one that stated that the top 10 in demand jobs did not exist in 2004. And that we are now training the next generation for jobs that do not yet exist. Knowing how quickly technology evolves and seeing how advanced the youth are today comparted to where we were 10 years ago is fascinating and yet concerning. We must continue to be ahead of what is next in order remain competitive. Although technology is important I still be that one skill set that will always be valuable is people skills. Being able to effectively communicate, deliver a message, and manage conflict is an art that will never go away. There will always be a consumer or an end user for the products or services that are being provided and not understand human interaction will make us less competitive in the workforce.
-
Although there are many interesting facts in the video, I found that “Half of what is learned by a student pursuing a technical degree will be outdated by their third year of study.” I viewed this as the most interesting fact because it shows how fast technology is evolving. It also shows that it is important to go back to school after a few years to catch up and learn the new information to be more qualified and meet higher expectations in the field. As a future business leader, I think networking and problem-solving skills are essential to be successful in the digital economy.
-
What I found extremely incredible was how the statistics of all those facts compare to about a decade ago and how far the world has come, for good and bad. How is it possible that a supercomputer is capable of exceeding the capabilities of the human brain when it was built by one? The human species has reached goals that were unimaginable years ago because of technology and it will only advance from here. There should be some hope that while it makes lives easier, it doesn’t take away from what life is and what is needed to learn from it. There is no backtracking from what technology has given us but for sucess, it is important to be able to identify the limits and place barriers in the digital economy in order to remind ourselves of what we can do without these tools and simply with our own hands.
-
If the Facebook community become a country, it will be the third vast population country after China and India. Every second 60 tweets are posting out to the public. Today is a digital world that people cost so much time in social media to communicate with others. Other than face-to-face communication, sometimes people can accept information quicker and better from the press. I think skills that essential for success in the digital economy are the ability of using social media platform and the problem-solving skills.
-
While the video was filled with interesting facts, the one that shocked me the most was that China will soon become the number one English speaking country in the world. The amount of people in our own country is already impossible for me to comprehend, and to think that there will be that many people in China that speak our language as a second language is crazy. It brings up the question of whether US jobs are going to be lost to China. Why would a company pay someone in the US to work from home when they could potentially pay a Chinese or other foreign worker much less. As the digital economy grows I believe any and all skills with technology and computers will become vital to a successful career. The days of pen and paper are gone and the work force needs to adapt to that.
-
I found this video to be incredibly interesting. The fact that the top 10 in demand jobs did not exist 15 years ago is astonishing to me. As an MIS major, it’s interesting taking into consideration how much I will need to adapt with the business world as it changes in order to be successful. By the time I switch from one job to another, I’ll probably have a lot to learn to prepare myself for any new position that I aspire to hold. Knowing now that half of what I learn as a student will be outdated in two more years is pretty scary, but I’m ready for the challenges that come with this major.
-
The most interesting and also alarming fact to me was “The U.S. Department of Labor estimates that todays learner will have 10-14 jobs by the age of 38.” Personally I have always had the impression that I am going to find a steady job after college and stick to one job. Change is hard more many, including me and especially when it comes to jobs that is a very scary fact. For me as I grow older I would like to have a steady routine that I don’t mind. Getting a new job would definitely disrupt a previous routine. I think being tech savvy and being good with computers will be good features to have when dealing with the digital economy. As the world keeps innovating so will the economy.
-
The most interesting fact was the top 10 in demand jobs did not exist 15 years ago. 15 years ago I was 13. In 15 more years I might have a 13 year old. Jobs stayed stagnant for decades until the technology boom and now that technology is here, it removes the need for many other jobs through programming and computers. This is one of the main reasons I chose accounting – job security. As good as machines are with numbers there will always have to be some form of human element and communication in the accounting position, and that is essential in my opinion. Deals aren’t done, money isn’t transferred, and nothing will progress without communication.
-
The most interesting fact to me was that when going for a degree, the information learned in the first year will be outdated by the third year of study. It is a testament to how fast changing information is and the amount of work and research being put in by people now is staggering. It also shows how important it is to continue learning and pursuing education so that you are constantly up to date with the newest information in whatever field you are working in. Accounting does a good job of this because they require you to have a certain number of hours of continuing education every year in order to be as informed as possible.
-
What I found interesting is that “1 in 8 couples married in the U.S met online.” It interested me because of social media and today’s generation, we have found our couple. It used to be without technology, you would find your loved ones in person first. There are many places online nowadays that you can find your loved ones. As a normal college student, I don’t find them through online but I meet them first either in school or just through other friends. I personally do not like anyone online, nor will I ever date one online, because who knows the outcome? As a future business owner, I believe technology is the key to being success in the digital economy.
-
The most interesting fact that stuck out to me was that the top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004. This is intriguing to me because I wonder if it is because the 2010 jobs themselves are so vastly different from the jobs of 2004 or if they are really very similar jobs but only use more technology now than they did a few years ago. The video also goes on to say that we are preparing students for jobs that do not exist yet using technologies that have not been invented in order to solve problems that we do not know are problems yet. I find this odd because I wonder if it is better to focus more attention on the problems at hand rather than focusing on problems that may or may not exist in the future.

I learned a lot during this course. My biggest take away would be work place efficiency. The readings, videos and assignments really illustrated the impact of ERP systems in the business world. Although start up and maintenance fees for ERP systems are substantial, the money saved through the elimination of redundant work processes and the ability to apply real time updates is unparalleled. I don’t believe there to be a “most important” aspect of technology. I would say embracing technology is the most important aspect. The ability to manipulate your business practices through technology is no longer optional for a successful business, it is critical. One of the first examples of MIS I remembered reading at the beginning of class was “We are developing solutions to problems that do not exist yet”. Technology should be embraced and utilized to effectively manage businesses and to also gain competitive advantages.
I currently use numerous web-based interfaces during my daily work functions. Understanding the value and effectiveness ERP systems can be used for force shaping and to achieve the mission. I am pursing a career in Human Resources outside of the military, so I don’t foresee myself being involved in the maintenance of ERP systems, but I think it is equally important to know the effectiveness of these systems in reaching a common goal. Even if I am not managing these systems, I am still in directly involved through using them daily and it is important to a company to have employees that can provide value feedback in the utilization of these systems. -
My biggest takeaway from this course is the importance of data integrity. By going through the MaxLabs projects, it became really apparent how much damage incorrect, duplicated, or mis-assigned data can create. Also, using the swimlane diagrams and ERDs showed how critical it is to capture all the data relevant to an entity because so many other entities will depend upon that source for data they need to execute their actions.
-
The most important thing i have learnt this semester is using the systems to manager different parts of a thing. i am a risk major student, if it is possible, i will try to use what i learned in this course to create a complete system and CRM, SCM OR ERP to find the risk part of a case.
-
The most important concept that I have taken away from this class is how efficient different systems are. By figuring out the most effective way to streamline data, companies become so much faster and are better able to handle their large amounts of data. Furthermore, as a Risk Management and Statistics student, I can use my skills in salesforce to add leads on new client prospects. My company uses salesforce to streamline our client data which gives me a leg up on my coworkers because now I am comfortable with this system and how to streamline my information. Thanks for a great summer session!
-
I learned that data is crucial to any business. There is more data than we know what to do with. Using technology to make sense of this data can lead to more efficiency and effectiveness in the business world and also everywhere else as well. This is why data analytics is important. It examines both structured and unstructured data for the purpose of gaining insight and drawing actionable conclusions. We can use this to make conclusions in any field. It is a key part of how organizations collect information to help with the outlook of the future.
-
For me in my place of work the speed of technology and the efficiency of getting information in a timely matter is key and a big take away on how that information is obtained through technology. I know I have said this plenty of times but I work for a trading firm and getting market data from exchanges is important. More important is the speed I have to get executions of to buy or sell options for a customer. The swim lane diagrams showed me the process of how I do an execution. I send the order through an execution platform, that process has more steps than I knew about. The order is sent to a line from our company that is fixed to a specific exchange to where the order is posted. If the exchange is having issues the order will reject and kick back to me therefore not allowing me to send the order. I thought the order just rejected but now I know why and what I learned in this class actually helped me analyze these problems more than before I attended.
-
My biggest takeaway from this course was fully understanding the significance of information systems (CRM, ERP, etc.) in the workplace. Properly utilizing information systems can drastically improve the efficiency, decision making process, and overall performance of a business. I think the most important aspect of technology in the workplace is having ERP systems that are up-to-date, easy to use, and reliable. To better shape my future outlook, it will be beneficial for me to get more experience using current ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics and SAP Business One.
-
I think the most important part of technology is that it gives entrepreneurs more room to be creative. Being able to keep track of sales and leads clears up a lot of mental space to focus on developing your craft. It also makes information more reliable. Once you can keep track of progress it’s easier to identify what’s working or not working. That way you don’t waste time on things with no return. I try to use these in my daily life to keep track of my own progress and goals.
-
In regards to technology in the work place, knowing which system to implement for a specific business is very important with regards to efficiency and financially. It’s important to decide if changing your current system is worth the money and time as well as fully committing to the change with everyone on the same board.
Using Salesforce and the idea of agile development to continuously upgrade the application while it is in constant use was helpful! It was my first time using both and a great experience.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is how fast technology changes and how important it is to keep up with advances to stay ahead of competition. It was interesting to learn how ERPs and other systems are changing the workplace and with the jobs that are needed. In order to have a career in the future it will be important to understand this technology and use it to my advantage. The max labs were also useful takeaways as that exposure to salesforce was valuable experience. I feel like I have a better understanding of the back end of how it works and am interested to learn more.
-
My biggest take away from this class was how important it is to properly manage various forms of data. It is extremely important to be able to effieciently transfer data between the different departments of a business. It is also extremely important to be able to gain as much data as possible about a company’s customer base so that they can put out the best product for the market.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class was learning the importance of the different systems, data, and how extremely important it is for it all to be protected and efficient. I also really enjoyed using to the max labs and discovered that many companies have or are in the process of switching over to Salesforce for their CRMs so that was an added benefit to become somewhat familiar with the system. I think that having a proper, efficient system for a business is key for its success. There is a lot that I can take away from this course that I can use to shape my current and future outlook since I think my knowledge in this field was and still is a little behind. I think getting a better grasp of MIS will certainly give me a better advantage in future business.
-
Data organization and how it leads to efficiency in the workplace is my most important takeaway from class. Organizations that utilize well-structured systems and business processes are going to have a core foundation that can lead to an advantage over competition. The advancement of technology happens so fast that an understanding of how technology now will prepare me for success in the future.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is the efficiency of all the systems that we have used. As a business professional, I think the most important aspect of technology in the workforce is the relationship from one department to another to which data and such transfers. a key element I can use to shape my future or outlook is the importance of choosing the right system for better efficiency for you and your organization as there are different types of successful systems.
-
The most important takeaway this class has taught me about business is how to be efficient. Efficiency in the workplace goes hand in hand with productivity. And with high productivity comes great returns $… ERP systems are crucial in learning to make sure your business is running efficiently and effectively. Over the past 5 weeks we have been making labs, that show us how to create and effectively communicate different aspects of a website and of a business. This class is beneficial to changing how we make the next step in effective business. I feel like i have a better understanding on how big and even small businesses can effectively implement ERP and other systems we have learned. Salesforce was helpful in the aspect of constantly changing and updating your site in order to adjust and track what is needed in order to meet customer satisfaction.
-
Information systems are essential to business processes in a variety of industries. Understanding how systems function at a high level is mandatory for any business person. Regardless of whether you are an MIS major or not, it would be prudent to take the skills and concepts learned in this class and expand on them. In particular, ways to migrate legacy systems to newer more efficient ERP & CRM systems. Understanding User Acceptance Testing and the importance of this process will allow you to help management and staff implement new systems more efficiently. Ultimately, recognize that these systems are here to stay. Learning how they function can set you apart from workplace competition and allow you to excel in the field.
-
The most important takeway I have from this course is that how CRM and SCM influence everyday business operation. Behind every customer service desk. My thought on CRM was not very different from any other business implementation. CRM organizes users with their respective customers by allocating contact information. I also learned that how influential how ERP system is. It improves work efficiency along with productivity. From using Google Analytics, I could now review the result of my web site in an analytical standpoint and to breakdown data, it turns data into a tool for improvement.
-
I have taken lot away from this course, the variety of systems used, and what is the most efficient system for specific tasks. I have learned a lot from the labs, utilizing hand on material that helps me absorb information. I think these labs were helpful because not only were we doing it ourselves but we were being walked through the correct way ensuring that the out come would be correct. I also think the repetition within the labs were helpful because in order to get the correct outcome we would have to enter information is several times giving us the repetition we need for the process to stick in our minds. I think the future of business is now. With different more complex systems being built everyday we are gentrifying our world as we know it.
-
With technology in the workforce, it is important that people keep up. Technology is constantly evolving in order to maintain efficiency and improve response time. If a person in the workforce isn’t willing to or can’t keep up with these rapid changes, they’ll fall behind and in the long run be replaced. ERP systems are a great way for me to understand Info Systems and I plan to continue to use them in the future.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is that Management information is an essential need within all businesses evolving today. Every type of company can benefit from it, no matter how large or small, and its entire process is to make systems and processes run more smoothly so that you can focus on other aspects that can not be systematized such as the creativity aspect. The elements that I am most likely to benefit from would be swimlanes. I have always had trouble seeing out systems, but the visual aspect of swimlanes makes it significantly easier for myself and anyone else with little technological experience to use. This class has helped me realize how critical things such as CRM systems are when starting my own business and running it.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class is how implementing a system like an ERP for example, is advantageous to the point that without one a business would struggle to keep up or stay a float in todays markets. Computing systems are so integrated into businesses today that it is unlikely that I will ever go to a new job again that doesn’t have some sort of computing system. Also I was impressed to hear that implementing an ERP system that would cost 100,000,000 dollars would be able to pay itself off within a few years because it makes the business run that much more efficiently.
-
My biggest takeaway from this class I think would be the concept of ERP. I already use an ERP every day in my job, but learning about it made me realize how important it is, and how it helps my job processes run smoothly. I learned how having ERP as well as CRM are helpful aids for a successful business. Implementing an ERP as well as training in ERP usually is well worth any businesses investment, and helps greatly in the long run.
-
My biggest lesson in this class is how fast technology changes and how important it is to keep up with the advances to stay ahead of the competition. It was interesting to learn how ERPs and other systems are changing the workplace and the jobs that are needed. To have a career in the future, it will be important to understand this technology and use it to my benefit. The max labs were also useful, since exposure to Salesforce was a valuable experience. I feel that I have a better understanding of how it works and I am interested in learning more.

I think CRM is more important to an organization because it is customer focused, and organizations are driven by the revenue that customers create. I think that organizations must gather and use data related to their customers, but this must always be done ethically and not in a manipulative or intrusive way. To some degree, utilizing data in this way will enable them to provide a better customer experience, which is in the customer’s best interest. I have used Goldmine, SAP CRM, and Microsoft Dynamics. The required field and prioritized information for each influenced what conversations I had with my customers and with what urgency.
-
CRM is more important than SCM because if you have poor relationships with your customers than you risk losing a source of revenue. In addition, having poor relationships with your customers can give your company a bad reputation within your industry or marketplace. I think it is essential for companies to use data to track information about their customers as long as they are not overly invasive or acting in an unethical, conniving manner. I have experience using a cloud-based CRM named Bullhorn. My experience with Bullhorn was good because it has a simple interface and it never had any significant technical problems.
-
In terms of data collection, I think CRM is better by far. To keep track of customer interactions and organize that information efficiently, CRM is very important. SCM is also important for some business, especially where a product is being shipped. For other companies that don’t sell products as opposed to services, CRM is more beneficial. I personally have used Mindbody for work and it is great in terms of keeping track of my clients and separating active vs inactive clients. It is especially helpful when looking back on customer interactions. I think collecting data about customers is very important to better serve them in the long run, rather than give them unnecessary information.
-
Both CRM and SCM are essential to organizations. An organization selling a service is not going to need a sophisticated supply chain so CRM is going to be more important. An organization selling a manufactured product is going to rely heavily on it’s supply chain to ensure maximum efficiency. SCM is going to be more important to these organizations.
-
-
When deciding between CRM and SCM I think the CRM is most important for the business as a whole but as when it comes to important systems SCM would be the most important. A business is ran in order to receive profit and if you don’t have customers buying your product you would not benefit. No matter what your business is you are impacting someone in some way, making a profit in another way; concluding that though the SCM system is always beneficial to an organization, having customers and individuals that will always need your product is more important. I work in a restaurant which uses a CRM to track orders, popular items and the busiest hours of the day. I think this aspect of a business is important in order to keep organized and highlight the most beneficial outcomes.
-
Both CRM and SCM are essential to organizations. An organization selling a service is not going to need a sophisticated supply chain so CRM is going to be more important. An organization selling a manufactured product is going to rely heavily on it’s supply chain to ensure maximum efficiency. SCM is going to be more important to these organizations.
-
To be honest, both two systems are important for the company, but in my opinion, the CRM system may be more important for a firm. The most important thing for a firm is creating the product that what their customers need. In any ways, customer is always the most important part for a company to stand by and keep working. Based on this opinion, the CRM system could help the company to collect as more as possible information about their customers, therefore, the CRM system should be more important.
-
Both systems play important roles for the company, but I think CRM is far more important than SCM. Taking care of the customers first should always be a priority to any organization because that’s what keeps the company up and running. CRM helps market the organization and once businesses gain enough money, then they can update their SCM to make it easier for them to distribute raw materials easier. Either way both software systems are extremely important to an organization, but I happen to believe in taking care of the customers first and then worry about SCM later. While some organizations will think they need a better distribution service to all depends on what type of business they are running. Utilizing data to learn more about the customers is great because it’s doing whatever we can as an organization to provide better experience for their customers.
-
I think that CRM systems are more integral to business success because they are customer focused. Although SCM create ease for internal operations, CRM systems directly impact the customer and helps add value to the organization through the eyes of the customer because they have direct contact with the impacts of these systems. A CRM system that I have interacted with at work sends updates to clients about payments they have made and payments they have due. This helps them to set up payment plans in a way that makes the customer feel supported.
-
I think that CRM systems are integral to business success because it directly impacts the relationship that the customer has with the business. By putting the customer first, they cultivate a relationship that is otherwise not there. A CRM system that I have worked with is one that sends information to our clients about bills they have paid as well as outstanding payments. It helps them develop a payment plan in a way that they feel supported by our company.
-
I think CRM is better so far. To track customer interactions and effectively organize information, CRM is very important. Supply chain management is also important for some companies, especially when products are shipped. For other companies that do not sell products instead of services, CRM has advantages. Personally, I personally use Mindbody to work well, track my clients and separate active and inactive clients. This is especially useful when reviewing customer interactions. I believe that, in the long run, collecting customer data is very important to improve customer service, rather than providing them with unnecessary information.
-
I think both systems play a big role for businesses. However, I do believe CRM is a bit more important than SCM. In any business the customer aspect is the most important because they are part of the reason any business is profitable. SCM does also impact a business by making the management of the flow of good and services easier. I worked at a bank which used a CRM to sent out automatic payment reminders, account activity notifications, and emails after customer visits that would help schedule future meetings.
-
Both are very important parts of business development and growth. CRM systems serve an important role in providing efficient and strategic methods to track customer behavior, which provide sales teams valuable data in developing new and maintaining existing relationships. SCM systems are even more critical. Disruptions in a supply chain directly affects current business processes and can ultimately force production to a halt. Having SCM systems can detect these potential threats and determine resolutions as to avoid disruptions. If a company only invests in CRM, they could end up having a large customer base and no way to fulfill incoming sales orders as a result of a poor SCM system.
-
Both SCM and CRM are important systems. However, I think that CRM is more important to an organization due to the fact that it is customer oriented. It is a tool that organizations use to help with the processes, procedures, and strategies. One of the articles this week discussed that the customers are the ones who determine whether a company will be successful or unsuccessful and I believe that CRM has a major role in a company’s success with the customers. I think the utilization of customer data is extremely smart for businesses because it helps them cater to the needs of their consumers, which is a win-win. The customers get what they want and the business makes money. Just yesterday I received an email about my apartments water delivery. It reminded me of when the water will be delivered and when I will be billed. Once the water is delivered, a follow up email is sent that is basically a check-in to see how the delivery went and if we need any further help.
-
I think customer relationship management is more important. Customers are really the foundation of every business. If you didn’t have any customers. you wouldn’t have a business. But on the other hand, if a business has a large customer base but not a proper SCM system, they may not be able to handle all of that business, causing things to not run smoothly.
-
Both of the system are critical for a sustained business operation. I would put more attention on SCM simply because it fuels day to day operation by providing fundamental supply for all departments. SCM covers larger area than CRM does. SCM focuses on building a smooth and trusting supply replenishment. However, CRM seems to more important if the business intends to maintain existing customers since CRM could help to enhance loyal relationship.
-
I think that each system is equally important. These systems complement each other. Utilizing, JIT supply systems and having accurate consumer information is essential to operations. Finding a good balance between Dell’s “start from scratch” operating and Lenovo’s educated quarterly estimations is extremely important to keeping inventory low and revenue high. As far as CRMs are concerned, I think that it is important to companies, but as a consumer I find it to be annoying at times. I’m still receiving emails and finding adds on various websites that I visited that deal with items I purchased years ago. At the same time, when I repurchase items it is helpful when a company already has my account information and shipping address so that I can quickly purchase items without having to enter my personal information again. This is especially helpful living on an island, for I make numerous online purchases.
-
I believe that CRM is more important than SCM. CRM is more important because the customer is the source of revenue that helps a business pull a profit or have a loss. If you dont know how to treat your customers, or if you have a bad reputation amongst many of the possible customers in your area, it could be harder foor your business to stay afloat compared to having a strained relationship with your suppliers. However, SCM is very important as well because your customers may be your customers because of an advantage you have with your suppliers compared to other companies. It is also important not to have too much supply or too much of a customer base if you cant satisfy the need to sell goods or meet all the customers’ demand.
-
I think CRM is more important for a business. Relationships with customers are the most valuable thing to a business. Being able to manage this effectively gives you a huge boost. These relationships will create new ones that last a long time.
-
SCM and CRM are equally as important. While CRM is important for leads and and customers, the SCM is important for actual delivery of services/product to the customer. I have used Pipedrive to manage dealflow for a VC fund in the past and it help drastically in organization.
-
I believe that both systems are useful to a functioning business in there own ways. SCM systems are effective for figuring out what type of inventory system to use. CRMs are great for helping to figure out what product to make and who is likely to buy it. Data collection is a hot button issue right now and I do believe there is a line to draw as to how much can be stored about people in order to protect privacy.
-
In a highly regulated business like a company in biotech or pharmaceuticals, SCM is more important because in order to have a good customer relationship you have to have perfect traceability and regulation of the supply chain or your customers wont buy from you. However in most other industries this CRM is more important.
-
Both CRM and SCM are essential for success in a business. However if I would had to pick one, it would be CRM. You could have a top SCM that is bound for success, but without CRM how far can it really take you? CRM is crucial in a business because what’s a business without the relationship of with your customers.
-
I think that SCM is more important because without a solid product and availability of it a business can not successfully operate. No matter how much a company focuses on the customers and their data, the product is the core of the business. I think that CRMs are valuable for companies and I see the need for them. As long as the CRMs are obtaining data in an ethical way, I think they serve a very important role in the way that businesses tailor their product for the consumer.
-
For every business, I believe both are needed for a business. Nevertheless, I believe CRM is more important. A company thrives on the relationship they have with their customers. This should always be managed efficiently, and smoothly. Since customers are the reason why a company is successful or not- CRM is the most important. SCM on the other hand is also important, because to have that satisfactory customer relationship, you need to have adequate regulation.

I found it interesting to see that Netflix uses a long tail distribution chart to identify movie viewer patterns to maximize profit. They can consistently make more off a variety of shows vice relying on “box office” movies. It’s also eerie to see companies like Facebook selling user data to third party companies. After learning that the Facebook App is constantly running on my phone collecting data off all my internet traffic has made me re-think social media. This data collection strategy has made an immense change in the business world, anytime I scroll through Facebook I can see products that I have previously ordered because my data has been sold to marketing savvy companies. On a positive note, innovation led to the invention of the Roomba, which has released me from my duties as the household vacuum operator.

I think the most interesting recent technological innovation is in the creation of ride sharing apps like Uber and Lyft. With the creation of these two platforms, it has enabled consumers to have more options for getting rides at a lower price. By making the system easy to use for the general population, they were able to gain a significant share of the market in a very short time. The creation of these apps has put a significant strain on the traditional taxi market and is forcing them to make changes to adapt to the new, modern environment.
-
I think that the development of the Apple Watch and FitBit have been an amazing innovation. Something as simple as tracking steps has brought people to be more cognizant of their own health. And then there are the incorporated apps where you can compete with your friends to make it a little bit more fun (or perhaps, to shame you out of not moving). I guess the original business models were simple pedometers, heart monitors, etc. And these have combined all of all of these technologies all into one plus so much more and added in a social aspect as well.
-
I think the most important technological innovation in recent years has been the development and improvement of autonomous cars. Driverless cars have changed the way people and goods travel, and is a completely novel concept. I think it will improve travel safety and efficiency as the software and technology becomes more advanced in the future. This innovation has changed the business models of transportation and automotive companies because they are changing the ways they design and manufacture vehicles. As transportation companies like FedEx and UPS adopt more autonomous vehicles, the demand for drivers will decline and demand for employees who can maintain and monitor the vehicle software will increase.
-
I think one of the most disruptive recent technological innovations has been online shopping and specifically Amazon. The ability to comparison shop has never been greater and is a main advantage of online shopping. Some other attractive features are the ability to specifically search for what you want and have it delivered directly to your house. This has changed the way many people, including myself, shop. In order to stay competitive it is imperative for businesses like retail stores, have an online store. Amazon is growing at an unprecedented rate and penetrating all different types of markets now after starting out as an online store. This shows the power of the innovative idea that they mastered and the way it has changed many marketplaces.
-
Ride sharing technology has been one of the most interesting technologies in recent years. Being able to order a ride from your phone and know exactly when it will arrive has changed the way we travel. These ride sharing apps have applied serious pressure to the taxi industry by bringing the taxi service to your fingertips and eliminating the most hated aspects of cabs while offering the service at a lower price.
-
I believe one of the most important innovations of recent years is AirBnB. Air BnB has changed the way people travel as well as live from our day to do lives as well as our special vacations. Hotels are expensive and there are rules, time limits, restaurant expenses and also sanitary issues. Air Bnb, for the most part eliminates all of that. While keeping in contact with the owner of the house many weeks prior as well as during your stay. You are at ease withe knowing the owner of the house wants you to feel right at home. The entire platform is based off of a rating scale. Each rating determines how well your stay was, as well as the host. The original business model of staying at a resort or hotel has changed. Instead of the jail-like platform of a temporary hotel. Customers get a home like feel while staying in a place they have researched and will enjoy. The business model completely changed from hotels to staying in peoples homes using Air BnB
-
One of the most disruptive technologies I think that have come up in recent years is auto-pilot on cars/driver-less cars. This idea could be the start of a whole new age in terms of driving. From gas powered cars to electric cars and now to driver-less cars will change the car industry as we know it. Originally, car manufacturers marketed things that appeal towards driving; now they may offer perks that gear more towards comfort rather than driving options.
-
In my opinion, the most interesting innovation in the last few years is the self-driving cars. I can just image those things in some fiction films talk about the future. I’m so surprise to see the new model of cars appear today. It would change people’s life a lot. I always feel tried when my mom need me to driving for several hours to the other city far away from my hometown. It may still be a hard thing for today’s self-driving car technology, but i believe a few years later we can see a proven technique in this way, the self driving car can working 4-5 hours and even much safer than people drive it.
-
I believe one of the most disruptive technology that we have today is social media. We go online for just about everything these days on social media to gather news, interaction with our following friends, etc. Social media isn’t just for consumers to connect with their friends, but businesses are taking advantage of using social media as well to promote their products for basically for free. It’s almost like these businesses are advertising their products for free by putting their company for free by putting it on social media. They are many benefits for business to being on social media, they can increase their brand, interact with their audience, open opportunities to sharing their product and it can give them an advantage on keeping up to date on their competitors as well.
-
I think that Amazon is one of the most interesting innovations. Amazon offers so many different products, all in one spot. It offers searching customers the ability to find almost anything all on one site, with just a few clicks of a button. Amazon has made shopping so much easier for not only customers who need normal, common household goods, but for customers who want and/or need obscure, specific, hard-to-find goods. Amazon is not only extremely helpful for customers who want to be efficient by purchasing products from one place, but it is also helpful for the businesses that sell their products on the website! It has brought companies business and attention, simply because their products are sold on Amazon. Overall, I think that Amazon is a brilliant innovation.
-
I think one of the most disruptive innovations is Amazon. Never has shopping been easier, everything you could want now can be shipped to your doorstep for a reasonable fee. Amazon has skyrocketed in recent years because it has crossed into many different markets including food. Amazon is the first to have a check-out free store in Seattle, WA where customers could scan in with there phones and leave with what they want. Although it is only to test it’s target market it could mean major changes in the food industry. Amazon is only just tapping into its true potential.
-
What I find amusing is Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa, which has various capabilities, such as playing music, providing people with tons of information, the news, setting alarms, making shopping lists, providing weather updates, even ordering food etc. In the last year Alexa was improved to serve as a full blown smart-home platform, which after being told “Good night”, it automatically locks doors, turns off lights, and lowers the thermostat.
One can even view Alexa as a friend that knows everything and keeps you entertained. Alexa makes life easier and more fun for people and it is only the beginning of this type of human interaction with technology. Looking forward to future inventions. -
Companies like Hulu, Netflix & Amazon Video have changed the way we consume video media and, as a result, altered the industry business model. This impact has been felt hardest by those companies built on the old model. Companies like Blockbuster, RedBox and AMC/Regal are struggling to adapt. The movie rental business is essentially non-existent, RedBox can stay afloat as result of low overhead, and the movie theatre industry is having to reinvent itself by offering more food & drink options (i.e. Movie Tavern) to entice customers and create a unique experience. This “disruptive” technology, however, has not happened overnight. Over time, however, streaming media has become more popular and profoundly impacted the industry.
-
I like that people are finding ways to make cars drive themselves. I think the change will reduce the number of accidents and traffic jams by a ton. I think it’s going to change how people get licensed to drive and insurance rates. Driverless cars are definitely the innovation I’m most excited about.
-
One of the most interesting innovations is block chain technology. Crypto currencies have the ability facilitate growth in different injuries, especially the insurance industry. It provides a new way to pay catastrophic claims and indemnify clients more quickly than traditional insurance claims payments. Furthermore, because technology and online transactions are so prevalent, it creates a system of ease for customers.
-
I believe that one of the most important innovations in recent years is AirBnB. BnB Aviation has changed the way people travel and has changed our daily lives as well as our special holidays. Hotel prices are expensive, there are rules, time constraints, restaurant expenses and health problems. Most of the air Bnb eliminates all of this. Keep in touch with the homeowner a few weeks ago and during your stay. You know that the owner of the house wants you to feel at home. The entire platform is based on a rating scale. Each rating determines your stay and host. The original business model of staying at the resort or hotel has changed. Not a jail-like platform for a temporary hotel. Customers feel the same feeling when they live in places they studied. Business model completely transformed from hotel to use Air BnB to live in people’s homes
-
What I believe to be amazing is that how modern applications utilize micro-transaction to carry out corporate business. For instance, WeChat, a social network application connects users and their bank accounts or credit card, embedding a QR code system, users could pay their bills anytime and anywhere by bringing up their ‘wallet’s’ QR code on their screen, which is then scanned by the store to take payment from the related account.. Being able to pay without using physical credit card made such feature very innovating. It also drives many social network applications more more business friendly.
-
I believe one of the most important innovations is mobile phones. From a business standpoint they have made finding customers so much easier. People can now reach businesses at virtually any time; whether it be call, text, phone or email. If people are on the go they can look up businesses and such from the palm of their hand. Businesses also have the ability to create their own apps to keep their customers connected and informed.
-
I believe one of the most important innovations over the past few years has been the development of ways to stream TV without having to be on cable TV. This has enabled people to watch games or their favorite tv shows on-the-go and is a cheaper way to watch TV compared to buying a cable subscription. It has also led to more development in the phone app and smart tv industry as online streaming is shifting towards the way of watching TV through apps instead of a cable subscription.
-
I think that the most interesting technology that have been created are Facebook, Netflix, Uber, Lyft, Hulu, etc.
Netflix and Hulu uses various movies from all over the country. It consist of variety of shows from box office movies, etc.
Facebook is one of the best social media that I used the most cause I have family all over the world India, Australia, Florida, Texas, Atlanta, etc. And the best thing is by using Facebook I can keep in touch with family and friends no matter how close or far they are. It has help change business models for businesses which helps then decided who their target is. -
I definitely think that Uber and Lyft have been two of the best innovations within the last few years. It is much more convenient to have apps right at your finger tips that allow you to simply put in the address of where you want to go and someone will be able to track your location to take you straight there. With regular taxi services you’ll need to call and sometimes explain to them where you want to go because they can’t track it in there GPS. In this day and age it’s all about being fast and convenient and these apps make getting to where you need to go much easier.
-
I think innovation and new technology are positively impacting business across the world. With new technology business are able to communicate internationally through social media and other forms of communication that technology had brought. Among this technology you are able to process information through websites such as google analytics and facebook. Other systems that are impacting business are things like webex, we are all able to be in different locations around the world and come together through the internet to communicate.
-
I believe the most interesting and important innovation in the last few years is Uber and Lyft as many others in this post can agree with me. Many people use Uber or Lyft on everyday basis; whether you’re the driver or riding in one. It provides convenience and safety. It is convenient because they’re everywhere and way cheaper than your average taxi service. It also provides safety because many of us drink alcohol and drunk driving is not acceptable.
-
Netflix to me is one of the most interesting innovations in the last few years, particularly their online streaming capabilities. It developed a whole new market which allowed movies and television to be seen through the same thing. Also content is readily available as soon as you log in. It has definitely changed the television and movie industry and other companies have responded like Amazon for example.

ERPs would be very important in understanding where an organization stands in terms of meeting sales objectives, gauging profitability, and ensuring service levels are met. Without an ERP the process of compiling all this separate data and manually combining it to get the whole overview would be so time consuming, that not only would the productivity of the organization be negatively impacted, but the data could be irrelevant by the time it is ready to be evaluated. Outdated or inaccurate data could lead the organization to make poor business decisions – for example, taking on a financial risk such as a new acquisition because data indicated the sales numbers were extremely strong, when in fact they were not.
-
It took me a minute to see how an ERP is implemented in the trading world , in my 20 + years experience I never even heard of an ERP. But after looking at what an ERP means we certainly use it on a daily basis. We are constantly looking at different divisions within the company to see what factors a good customer or bad. For example we have the analytics team that crunches the PnL numbers to see what customers we are profitable with and which ones we are not. This gives us an idea on how to make our markets, come traders / customers are more savvy than others. Then we have another division that inputs the daily volume the customers do that would make us consider if the commissions we get are worth trading with them. That is only a couple examples , there are many more. If the data we get is bad then that can be really costly for us when trading with someone and vice versa when the information is good.
-
Having good or accurate data is important. It can make communication and certain processes more efficient. If there is bad data, companies may not be able to serve their customers’ to the best of their ability, and in turn this will have a negative effect on the business. If a whole organization is working together, everything is going to run smooth, and if everyone can go to one database to get their information, it is going to be easier for everyone to work together and succeed as a whole.
-
I’m a marketing major so having valid and accurate data is important especially when working with a large group of customers. Good data will let us know what we are doing wrong or wasting resources on. It let’s us focus on the marketing aspects that matter. Bad data can mislead the company and cause even more confusion.
-
In today’s world, data is central to all business functions. Most importantly, data drives decision making and having well-structured, accurate data is vital to making decisions. For example, with the use of data analytics a business identifies an area of expansion. Once expansion occurs data is needed to monitor progress and ensure the process is on track. Inaccurate data will cause bad reporting and could mislead a business to believe something that is not true.
-
In my future as an aspiring auditor good data will be imperative in attestation services. The whole process of the audit relies on obtaining good evidence or data that makes it possible to assure businesses are complying to the standards they are being audited for. Bad data kept on the companies part would greatly increase the amount of work needed to complete the audit as well as the cost. It is apparent how important it is to have good and centralized data for an efficient organization.
-
I am interning for a consulting firm and it is imperative that we accurately maintain proper data and information on our clients. For example, we need to keep track of current projects, billed hours, and any potential work opportunities in the future. Without an effective ERP system, it would be difficult or nearly impossible for our company to run in an efficient manner. If we do not have good data on our clients, we may under or over charge them, or improperly complete a project. Since we have a functional and easy to use ERP, every employee at our company can keep track of the firm’s engagements and progress.
-
Every industry needs information for their business. They make their decisions based on the type of information that is available to them, whether it’s taking a risk or to maintain their business. Every organization wants to collect, process, and use the information they need to create an ERP. As someone who is interested in cyber security, ERP is critical because it serves as a backbone of enterprises, containing sensitive data about suppliers, customers, etc. Bad data reporting for a company is never a good thing since it can ruin a company’s business process on how things get done correctly. Maintaining a good data keeps the company organize, up and running smoothly with no conflicts.
-
It is very important for any organization to collect good data and for that data to be accessible for different departments and different users within a company. I am a marketing major. I used to work in branding for a small company where they used legacy systems rather than ERPs and there were certainly instances where that became a problem, such as approving purchase orders having the belief that we were able to supply certain inventory when that inventory had actually been moved earlier in the day but not so that I would be able to see. Having all different departments have up-to-date data eliminates such problems.
-
The difference between working with good data vs bad data is huge in the working force. As an Accountant, we pull in raw data almost daily for our reconciliations, entries, etc. If the data pulled in was “bad”, all of our reconciliations would be thrown off. Most organizations run on data; to make sure their operations run smoothly, it is imperative to make ensure that the data being collected is good.
-
In terms of MIS, ERP and data analytics seem very important. Giving different departments real-time information can benefit the company on a very large scale. Having lived in a cloud-based environment for so long, it seems weird that companies function without it. Having good or bad data would have a huge impact on daily workplace activities. If there was a delay in account credit or even on the warehouse side, it would hinder business operations and result in a decrease in revenue.
-
As im majoring in finance, good data would result to the financial department to have a clear and correct view to any kind of subject that is being studied. that would provide a higher chance for the department to make a correct decision, and that is also the most important element that a financial department can make a good choice. A bad data would result a very bad decision making for a financial department which is deadly for a company.
-
Good data in any field helps businesses get the needed information. It is crucial to have good data because businesses use this information to analyze and use that data for their performance. In any industry this is important because the right information saves businesses from costly mistakes. Bad data can potentially damage the business in the long run.
-
As a MIS major, it is important to first acquire as much possible data about customers. By having a lot of data available it allows a company to better understand their customer base and then tailor their product to their needs. Good data will provide accurate information that will be helpful to better serve customers and run efficiently as a business. Bad data could lead the company to fall behind in the market by not giving the customers what they want.
-
I plan to work in the manage department, so as a manager, i realized how useful the ERPs is. Managers could establish a database of company operations, accumulate knowledge of management experience of the company, and will not be lost due to personnel turnover. It is the most important part of use that i think. Many firms face lots of problem because of the employees individual risk. Firms can not decide who will never leave, and solve the following problems easily with a key employee leave.
-
The collection of accurate data is critical to the primary duties and functions of accountants. Often, accountants are analyzing data from an enterprise level. There are a variety of different departments and entities collecting raw data and need to store it efficiently. ERP systems allow for collection of this raw data in a uniformed and secured way. It is critical that the security be regularly updated and maintained as a breach of any sensitive information could impact a variety of stakeholders. An example that comes to mind is the data breach Target faced a few years ago. Sensitive consumer information was compromised and the company faced backlash and lost the trust of many of its customers.
-
Being a Marketing major, ERPs and Data Analytics are so important! In any business it is beneficial to have clear, defined methods to viewing and working within systems. Good data will only help something that is being marketed, succeed and sell. Bad data can do just the opposite. However, good and bad data can also help a company see where they are thriving, and where they need to pay more attention. The more data, the more a company can use predictive analytics to help plan for the future.
-
Data collection is a large part of what I do in my job field. It primarily deals with aircraft parts reliability. I track flight hours, component reliability, mission completion ratings, and aircraft availability statuses. I then forward the information to Navy Supply. They take information that I provide them with and use it during contact negotiations with aircraft part manufacturers. The intent is to purchase from the lowest bidder, however, reliability of product is a large factor. If the wrong contractor is selected it could affect my day to day operations. If I have unreliable aircraft parts I’m going to be spending more time fixing the aircraft then flying missions.
-
As a Risk Management major, ERP systems help drastically. They act as a central database to streamline data and information across different business units. Having data be easily accessible is extremely important because in the insurance industry, many business units work together and rely on one another to price and classify policyholders in the most fair and profitable way. Without ERP’s, it would take a lot longer for the industry to respond to the dynamic nature of the industry. Furthermore, it helps filter out bad data and protect clients in the event of a cyberattack. With all this big data out there, ERP’s really facilitate good business organization, communication, and appropriate handling of big data.
-
The business world is filled with many different tactics to ensure the best results within the business. Marketing thoroughly utilizes ERPs by integrating many systems and distributing information into one main system. This type of planning is essential for marketing because of the many sources data is collect from. Though this type of resource can be extremely beneficial, there are still many spots that could allow for bad data to be collected within the bunch. In order to acquire complete accurate information it would have to be thoroughly reviewed by an individual and could take alot of time.
-
With my current job, collecting data is very important. We are able to keep track of everybody that calls in and can go back into the system to revisit there information if needed. Without our data system, it would be extremely difficult to keep track of important information which would in turn would result in us not being able to properly do our job.
-
It is crucial for a company to collect good data to be successful. Collecting good date is extremely important when it comes to making business decisions. With data you get a sense of what works and what doesn’t, which helps the organization become more efficient.
-
Yes, I believe it is very important for any organization to collect good data and have an integrated system that can let the users to take one clear view of the data and of the customer. In any organization or company it is very important to have clarity, and I believe collecting good data and having an integrated system is a way an organization or company can achieve that. Additionally, it is very important to decipher and separate good and bad data. By identifying it, we will be able to understand what needs to be done, everyday, as well as what needs to be fixed in terms of data.
-
I believe that ERPs are very important for every single major. In any organization or companies it is very important for us to be clear and understand what is going on in the ERPs. We will need to collect data with any major we go to cause they help us with making big decisions.
-
In the business I work at it is very important that data is up to date between departments. The most common problem we have is inventory being taken out and not accounted for somewhere else. This leads to a lot of confusion on a weekly basis, an ERP system would be very beneficial to any business because I can see where you can run into problems when you don’t have one. Good communication and availability of data are crucial to running a business.

A decision tree could be helpful when trying to figure out how to deal with what kind of car you want to buy. You can create a decision tree first by the type of car, then if you want a 4 door or coupe, 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder, and etc. There are many things you can put on a decision tree for a car that can help you narrow down your decision.
-
I can see a decision tree being helpful when selecting a stock to buy. Depending on your investment theory, strategy, or policy, you must make certain decisions to determine if a stock should be purchased. For example, an investor purchasing a stock may want to make sure that the market capitalization, price-to-earnings ratio, or free cash flow of a company are at a certain level before buying shares of the company. Since investors and equity traders take into consideration multiple different criteria before making an investment, a decision tree can be very useful.
-
I can imagine a decision tree being useful in event planning. Since there are so many different elements that help to determine other decisions, it would be particularly helpful to have a physical drawn out graph, organized graph to help make certain decisions. For example, if the event is a wedding, it could help narrow down venue, who to invite, music, colors, food selection, etc. Also, similar to the example in the video, I think it would also be helpful in planning the costs for such things as well.
-
I could see a decision tree being very useful in Operations. A decision tree could be used to determine which course of action to take as it relates to inventory decisions, plant management/layout, or allocation of resources. It would help the Operations Manager map out the various options, evaluate criteria objectively, and arrive at the best decision.
-
A decision tree could be helpful in countless situations. One example that comes to my mind is government or politics. Lets say there is a law or situation where a decision has to be made with multiple people and multiple options; you could use that decision tree to lay out the multiple options, and create a visual that can be physically seen so all the options can be weighed out and properly evaluated.
-
I think the decision tree would be helpful in food industry, finance, etc. Decision tree can determine what course of action we need to take and what it would relate to.
-
I think the decision tree would be helpful in food industry, finance, etc. Decision tree can determine what course of action we need to take and what it would relate to. For example, for a wedding that is taking place in Orlando, FL. the decision tree can help me narrow everything down, with all the questions venue, invite, music, decoration, etc.
-
I think a decision tree can be helpful in just about any situation. We make decisions on just about everything; how we want to study for tests, where we want to eat, what we want to do with our lives, how much money we should spend, etc. As human beings, we make so many decisions in a day that I think a decision tree would generally be helpful to plan out a day, any ideas you may have, weighing pros and cons of things, etc. There are, in my opinion, an unlimited amount of uses for a decision tree. For example, if you were looking at a list of required classes you needed to take to graduate and you wanted to be able to graduate by a certain time, you’d look at what classes are offered when, how you can arrange them so you can take them all, if I take this class in the summer, it would free up room for this class in the fall, etc.
-
A decision tree is also a great tool to use in operations management. One example could be if a company is trying to decide if they should open a new facility and how big the facility should be. The tree could be used to outline the potential profits and losses as they depend on different market conditions. I think it is an easy and effective way to diagram a large variety of decisions even every day choices that are somewhat complex.
-
I can see a decision tree being a great tool in employee benefits consulting. When designing a benefits plan for a company, you must evaluate many different options to decide what plan design is the best fit for the company. The decision tree would be very useful in outlining different plan options so that clients can clearly see their choices, and the potential impacts of those different options. Decision trees are essential in the business world because it is a very simple way to evaluate complex business decisions in a way clients can understand them.
-
I think decision trees could be used in any industry, however one where i think it is important is in accounting. I believe this because there are millions of people in the United States who need to file their taxes, and tax laws are very complex. Decision trees are great to use to break down such complex laws. A decision tree would be able to help accountants or citizens to file their taxes quicker and correctly by breaking down the scenarios for the tax laws put in place.

We use decision trees in our everyday lives, at work, and within our interactions with others. It is important to gather enough information and to evaluate all the different choices and options so we make an informed decision. For example, if we are small business owner and would like to expand our business or add a new product line or add a new facility, or hire more employees etc, we need to come up with a detailed and calculated business plan, we need to be prepared for any surprises and downfalls and be able to come up with alternative options.
-
Decision trees are used by the military quite frequently. In the early 2000’s some of our Naval aviation support elements started to incorporate Lean Six Sigma. During the initial incorporation we utilized decision trees to eliminate wasteful processes. This not only allowed us to cut down on wasteful purchasing, it also made the elements more efficient in the manufacturing of aircraft parts and repair schedules. We also use decision trees in our operational risk management process. It helps us mitigate risk while accomplishing missions.
-
Decision trees are a more graphical way to show business rules, so I think they could be used every where there are complex business rules. A decision tree could be beneficial in choosing the right shipment method, the right plane to fly on, or the right model of an item to buy. Decision trees can also be useful to see what items to invest in or what items to manufacture. They make it easier to understand as opposed to listing out all the details of business rules.
-
Decision trees can be used in just about any industry because it helps plan out all the possible outcomes and decision makings for a business. Not only does it show the outcomes, but possible consequences to avoid. Many entrepreneurs and small business owners use this method to help analyze down the road of the possible outcomes. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are constantly looking for some ways to expand their business anyway way they can, so they need to come up with different scenarios to prepare for the unexpected.
-
I think decision trees are perfect for someone who runs or manages a restaurant. Working in a restaurant for a little while I see how they make and can lose money. There is a lot that goes into running a restaurant and making people happy. Having a budget and inventory is key in order to make a profit. I feel as though if you used a design tree to figure your liquor, food, staff, and utilities cost and narrow down each. the decision tree it could help you decide where you need help and where your restaurant or company is doing well. A decision tree could also tell you If expanding would be a smart idea adding a new way to give customers services that you haven’t thought before.
-
it seems like decision tree is something like an Excel or word document that can help people to analyze the different “ways”. So this is something that can be useful and also it can reduce the rate of mistakes that we have by using it. Whenever you have too much information that you simply would forget some of them, a decision tree is needed for people to make a correct and efficient decision. While shopping you can use decision tree to compare the cost and the value, when you manage your schedule, you can use it to be more efficient. It is a tool that can help you be efficient and make the correct decision.
-
A decision tree is a helpful tool for being able to weigh certain options against each other, to come up with the best plan. Whether you are running a business and need to begin the hiring process, or you need to choose a certain product, a decision tree can help to create a picture of all of the details that go into making the best, most profitable decision. I can see how a decision tree could be useful when trying to plan a vacation or any kind of travel. One could make a decision tree to weigh the pros and cons of using a certain travel agency versus another agency, in terms of cost, ratings, better service…etc.
-
The decision tree is useful especially for someone who wants to buy stocks. You may use the decision tree to compare different companies’ stocks. You may do some prediction for those stocks you want to buy, and then you can use decision tree to compare which one or more could let you get the most interest.
-
I think that a decision tree would be helpful for deciding what major to go to school for. The structure of the decision tree would enable a person to weigh different factors that would be universal across all majors. By being able to quickly compare the different facets of a major a person would be able to efficiently make a decision based off of factual information.
-
A decision tree would benefit you in almost every situation, it highlights the strength and weakness along with the possible outcomes in the form of a graph or decision model. Many people use a decision tree without even recognizing. A decision tree could benefit a business, deciding which employees to hire, which marketing techniques to chose, sales pitch and more. Every part of a business requires multiple factors in order for the business to be successful.
-
A decision tree can be useful for deciding the cost benefit of manufacturing a product. It would be helpful in assessing the profit margin, competition in the marketplace, supply chain logistics and beyond. The more inputs included in the tree, the more useful it will be to the end user. If the decision is made to move forward and start production, a decision tree can still be used and refined to make the manufacturing process more efficient and assist in decisions relating to expansion.
-
One area a decision tree would be useful is in HR. When hiring an applicant, the hiring manager can weed out certain applicants by using a decision tree to set certain criteria that the applicant must meet. For example, is this person authorized for work in the country->if yes->Does this person have experience->yes/no if yes ->and so on until the hiring manager decides whether to put application in yes or no pile.
-
I believe a decision tree can be useful on everyday basis including both your personal and professional life. In your professional life, you can use decision tree to weigh out all different options and scenarios to help you become more efficient in your career. You can also use a decision tree in your personal life on daily basis when it comes to fitness. Many have a goal they want to achieve when it comes to fitness, using a decision tree to come up with a workout plan to help achieve your goal can be extremely helpful.
-
One area that decision trees are helpful is in scientific research. They are often used to decided which course of action would provide the greatest utility. For example when developing a product there are many questions that need to be answered, but you don’t have forever to answer them all. A decision tree helps find the pertinent questions which will help speed up the development of the product.
-
A decision tree can be utilized by a business for types of expansion such as new facilities, locations, workforce, product lines and others. With so many moving parts a decision tree will help set parameters around different options and organize those options in a way that can be easily processed. In a location expansion a decision tree would help to organize the negative and positive characteristics, identify any “non-starters” in each location and analyze any cost benefits associated.
-
There are many fields of area where a decision area would be helpful. One example could it in event planning, where you need to decide what type of event you need to plan with what type of materials/props, food, etc, is necessary, and so on. Trees could also be be helpful when trying to decide what type of insurance you need to sell to someone in the financial/insurance industry, and so on. There are so many options, and combinations/permutations for every single type of person especially with insurance. Additionally, one may need to use a decision tree when they need to hire someone. HR employees may create webs, including a person they want to hire, with their strengths and weaknesses, and so on.

This was a very eye-opening video. The world population statistics didn’t really surprise me however, the fact that one-week worth’s of New York Time prints is more information than an average 18th century human being was exposed to in a life time was mind blowing. I also learned that a zettabyte is an extremely substantial number. The second most surprising, only to the 8th century fact, was the first cellular phone call was made in 1975. I was under the impression that started in the 80s. If this information is a sample of what’s to come in this course, I am very interested.

The most interesting fact I found was that 1 in 5 divorces is blamed on facebook. Technology is the future of the world, indicating that the skill most beneficial for success is to be fluent in technology. Understanding cheat codes within a computer software system and the proper function will relay the best outcomes.
-
The first thing that I have noticed or i have already noticed before I watch that video is why data collecting and analyzing is important. However, this video also mentioned something that is even more interesting and i should even care more is that “the amount of technical information is doubling every 2 years”. That means that those especial skills that students learned in college perhaps is not the most important thing. As business major student, thought and our special mind after receiving education become the most valuable things that we have.
-
What I found interesting was “we are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist using technologies that haven’t been invented in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.” There is more data out there than we know what to do with. For that reason I believe current or future business leaders need to be opened minded and also need to be able to adapt to change. They need to have the right skills that can be applied to new jobs and new problems that may surface.
-
The most interesting thing i found in this video is that “10 million Self-Driving Cars will be on the Road by 2020.” Today 2018, at this present, Self-Driving cars are still on the test. However, only two years later, people may see so many new cars. It shows the thing, the knowledge we learnt today are still developing. As a student of the business major, how to decide the area that the company focused on is the most important thing. Doing things people already did before is not a smart decision for people who want to create more value.
-
In my opinion, the most interesting fact of the video was that the 25% of China’s population with the highest IQ is greater than the entire population of North America. I found this interesting because it not only demonstrates simply how large China’s population is, it shows how much the Chinese government is investing in higher education in order to become a more advanced country. As future business leaders in the digital economy, I believe it is essential to be adaptable to a rapidly changing world. In addition, I believe it is necessary for business leaders to be open-minded towards making investments into technology for their respective businesses.
-
I thought that the I.Q. statistics for India and China compared to North American were the most interesting: The 25% of the population in China with the highest IQ’s is greater than total population of North America and in India, it’s top 28%. That particularly stuck out to me since those numbers were so dramatically different and wonder if it is due to the fact that they are so different culturally or if it is just because the population is so much higher. As a future business leader, I think that it is important to stay current with technology and social media as it is rapidly evolving.
-
This video as a whole was very interesting but to me, I think the fact that the top in-demand jobs right now barely existed ten years ago was the most interesting. That and the fact that students are being prepared for jobs that don’t even exist yet, and using technologies that haven’t been invented yet. As a college graduate and newer to the professional working field, I think being able to adapt to change is the most important skill one should inquire, for success in not only the digital economy, but any business venture. Even in my job at the Accounting office here at Temple, we’ve gone through so many technology changes in the two years I have worked here; It’s interesting to see how my coworkers adapt to the changes, especially the ones who may not be as technologically savy. Being open to new ideas and changes in the work place is important, as technology is rapidly advancing in many ways.
-
What I found that was interesting is this is the first time in history, we’ve 4 generations working side by side. It’s interesting to me because it’s something that we don’t think about or even realize that our family are all working together and each generation communicates in the work force differently. As a business leader in the digital economy, I believe it’s important to be able to adapt and being a risk taker. Business leaders need to be open minded and adapt on the fly, so their business can keep up with the latest technology. Business leaders need to take risks because not only it shows them they have the confidence and faith in their business, but success is not going to fall in your lap. Sometimes those risks can turn out to be good things or come hunting down on you, but that’s the beauty of risk taking you never know until we try.
-
The video as a whole was very interesting and had a lot of information. The one fact that I liked the most is “we are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t exist yet, in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.” It makes you think about the current education system and about the items and subjects you are learning. The fact that humans are so advanced that we are able to predict what jobs will be the most needed in the future is amazing. Teachers are preparing this students for the future, basically to ensure we will have people that know enough about this new technology to develop it. Over all, the video makes me really excited for the future because it makes it seem like there is so much potential in the world right now, and the technology that we are currently using is just the beginning.
-
The video contained many interesting facts that open one’s eyes to how fast the world is changing. The most interesting prediction to me is that people of this generation will work 10-12 jobs by the time we are 38. Considering so many baby boomers worked one or two jobs there entire life it gave me a new perspective on how different generations are. It was also interesting to see that for the first time four generations are working side by side. I’m guessing this is a mixture of the average life expectancy being longer and people retiring later.
-
This video was so interesting and thought provoking that I made my whole family watch it, too! Each fact gave me a new, more educated perspective on the digital world and the impact it has on peoples lives. One fact that I found to be particularly interesting was that for a student who wants to earn a four year technical or college degree, by their Junior year, half of the information they learned in their Freshman year will be outdated. I am amazed at how smart humans are and how they keep developing new information so quickly. Regardless of how fast our educations become “outdated”, we are simply playing catch up to all the information that lies ahead. As a future business leader, and as a current employee in the digital world, I think it is very important to stay as up to date as possible on all the new digital developments. Being educated on these developments is be a competitive edge, helping a business progress to the top of its market.
-
A fact that I found interesting was “a weeks worth of New York times contains more information than a person was likely to come across in a lifetime in the 18th century.” This is proof that one of the major benefits of technology advancement is the power to move information from one source to another. As a result, it is important society is utilizing this benefit and stays informed on current events to further advance personal and professional goals. I receive push notifications from the Wall Street Journal (roughly 5-7 per day) which keep me informed with what is going on in both business and politics. Not only is the information readily available, the tech has identified my reading interests and uses that information to select which articles to send me.
-
The most interesting fact I saw was that most of the jobs that are in high demand right not non-existent 10 years ago and that new jobs will continue to present themselves as new problems arise. The reason I found this most interesting is because my whole life, I grew up around the idea that computers were the next big thing. Watching and experiencing the change in technology has been quite the journey. From dial-up internet to high-speed web browsing on phones, the rapid change has been relentless. I can only image what the next decade will bring on.
One of the most important skills I believe is necessary is the ability to adapt and to change, whether it is technological or from a social point of view. Keeping up with the newest trend of technology and continuing to update communication methods will help businesses stay relevant and current. -
The thing I found most interesting about this video is how quickly the population is growing. By 2050 the population will have increased by nearly 1/3 of what it is today. Furthermore, during the time it took to watch the video, 60 babies were born in the US alone (244 in china and 351 in india). With this ever increasing growth, the world is needing to learn how to adapt to both rapid size increases as well as adapting to new technological changes. Along with adaptation, people are needing to learn how to adapt their own ways of communication in order to get along with their coworkers better. This is due to the fact that there are four different generations working together for the first time in history. While this growth in population is scary and dramatic, it is also exciting because if we are able to adapt and collaborate with one another, the opportunities for technological growth and educational advancements are endless.
-
After watching the videos, I found it interesting how obsolete certain industries will be in the coming years. Not needing to pay the ridiculous amounts of money for car insurance, because the cars will operate themselves, & no longer needing to transport products because they will be made locally. The job market is going to completely change!
Not to mention how technology is changing education-the video stated that by the time your child finishes their 3rd year of college, the 1st year’s learning will no longer be useful.
Since technology is changing the way systems are ran, seems that it wold be in your best interest to have a plan B. Possibly study artificial intelligence…
-
What I found most interesting was the population data. That there are fractions of India and China’s population that fit certain statistics that out number certain demographics of the U.S. The amount of human beings expected to be populating the earth by 2050 is unimaginable. I think that success in this digittal economy is contingent upon a person’s ability to keep up with the growing technology. Things in the workplace are becoming more dependent on technology everyday and if you fall behind, that could cause major difficullty, as well as give employers a reason to search for someone else.
-
I really liked the “10 million Self-Driving Cars will be on the Road by 2020” part. I think that it’ll save a lot of people from car accidents by controlling the vehicles. It’s weird thinking about cars that drive themselves. I think open-mindedness is important for success in the digital economy. There are so many ideas that can be brought to life through that platform. Most of them are just waiting to happen.
-
In my opinion, the most interesting fact I found, was that in the course of the 6 minute, and 56 second video, 60 babies will be born in the States, compared to 254 babies in China, and a whopping number of 351 babies in India. That is how much more of a population there is in the two Asian countries, compared to the United States! There are many skills needed to have to find success in digital economy. I believe the ability to quickly and efficiently adapt to the always changing technology is very important; almost everything we use in our daily lives are lead by technology and digital gadgets. Additionally, it is very important to use all resources given to you, and be cognizant of all tools. Being the digital age, we have so many tools and resources to our disposal and it is is very important that we use them all to find success in the digital economy.
-
I found it interesting how we are now preparing people to be ready for jobs that don’t yet exist, and using technologies that don’t yet exist, in order to solve problems that don’t yet exist. I find this interesting because the future is unpredictable, yet we are able to forecast what jobs will be necessary to help businesses in the future. That boggles my mind. As a future business leader i believe you need to be both a sociable person who is a great leader, and at the same time know how to work technology. You must also be able to have an open mind and be able to come up with jobs that don’t yet exist and technologies that don’t yet exist in the future as well.
-
The fact that I found most interesting in the video was that youtube is the second largest search engine in the world. It’s a fact that I don’t find very surprising however I’ve never thought about how widely used the media site is. I think a skill that would be essential for a digital economy would be being tech savvy. Along with that a personality trait that an employer would want is open mindedness and forward thinking in order to keep up with the ever advancing technology and it’s applications to nearly any market.
-
The fact that I found most interesting was that there are over 100 million searches on Google every month. With all of that data Google has so many different options of what they can do with it, for their gain or ours. As current or future business leaders, I think a very valuable skill to have is to be able to be connected to as many people as possible. By connecting to people you can know and better serve the consumer.

What I found interesting is that “the amount of new technical information is doubling every two years and that for students starting a four year technical or college degree this means that half of what they learn in their first year, will be outdated by their third year of study.” I don’t think that the latter should deter students from going to college or from obtaining tech degrees, but on the contrary–it should compel young people to learn where to find the information they need and how to use it to their advantage. In today’s business world the only thing constant is change. Therefore, really successful people are the ones who quickly respond and adapt to change and the ones who keep an open mind to anything new.

The most interesting fact that I found was 1 in 5 divorces are blamed on facebook.

I know I am a bit late to this party but the stat that stands out to me the most is the stat about the 25% of the population of China with the highest IQ’s exceeds the total population in North America, not just the US, but the entire North America. I did not know this number was so exaggerated. This intrigued me because I feel that more money has to go into our education system not only across the US but obviously across the entire North American continent.
As a business major I feel that we have to adapt and adjust with technology as time goes on because it will constantly be changing. For example, I am an options and stock broker, I have been in the industry since 1993 and technology has single handily effected how Wall Street functions. If you do not keep up with technology in this cut throat industry you will be left behind and unemployed. -
The most interesting thing I learned from watching this video is the fact that 75 billion devices are projected to be connected to the internet by 2020. The IoT and IIoT are quickly becoming our new reality, and the impact it will have on our society will be monumental. We are entering a new era where everything we use, touch, and interact with will be a potential gateway device, gathering information and sending up to the cloud. What we do with that information, and how we support and secure it, will be critical issues to address as we move forward.
